fantasy premier league new players – Leicester forward Ahmed Musa
Statistics
Here’s the stats for his last 3 years for CSKA Moscow split between the league and the Champions League. There’s also a comparison between players of similar stats
His international record is 58 games for Nigeria with 11 goals scored which is a 19% strike rate
His prospects
Musa is probably best known for scoring 2 goals for Nigeria in the 3-2 loss to Argentina in the 2014 World Cup. With Ranieri playing 2 strikers that does give Musa some prospect of a starting role. Vardy will be the starter and it’s just a matter of whether he is partnered by Musa, Okazaki or Ulloa. Kramaric has now left the club. Okazaki and Ulloa were generally either subs or substituted last season so that does give Musa a fighting chance of a start in GW1.
Musa also has an advantage in that he is versatile and can play on either wing or as a support striker. That may give him better gametime prospects if there is a change of formation or injuries to other positions. His main strength is his pace though as he’s lightening quick. He also has a great ability to play on the counter attack something that will fit with Leicesters counter attacking style. He has been criticised for his lack of coolness in front of goal, as well as control and heading though.
He also has the advantage of rest and relaxtion over the summer as he has not been involved in the Euro’s or Copa America. As Nigeria didn’t qualify for the African Cup of Nations Leicester won’t lose him in January.
However gametime is the crucial issue and that will only be clear during pre-season
Summary
Ok stats for CSKA Moscow similar to an Ighalo
Versatile. Primarily a forward but can be a winger or a support striker
Should have a shout in starting with Leicester mostly playing 2 strikers
Known for great pace and ability to play on the counter attack
Nigerian. Rested as not involved in the Euros and not in the African Cup of Nations
