Ndombele (£6.0m mid)

Spurs sign the 22yo 6 foot French CDM/CM from Lyon. 30 starts plus 4 as sub in Ligue 1 in 18/19.  1 goal, 7 assists and 3YCs.  A goal or assist every 336 minutes. 4 games for the French National team.

For Spurs fans, and especially our own Joseph Crilley, #TanguyTuesday was a significant event with Spurs outlaying £62m on the Lyon CDM/CM.  Not an FPL player but he will add tackling to the defence and a significantly stronger screening of the back 4 than Spurs currently have.  If Spurs can hold on Alderweireld we could have a defence seriously worth investing in for £5.5m.

He is a better progresser of the ball than is perhaps known and that will help get ball to the AMs as Winks is a bit more sideways oriented in his passing.  He also has good dribbling skills which will help bypass any opponents press.  Lastly Ddombele should rid the need for Poch to put Eriksen or Alli in the 2 of 4-2-3-1 to avoid the problems getting the ball to the AMs.

A significant improvement for Spurs which will improve the team defensively and allow Eriksen especially to play as an AM.

Rodrigo (£5.5m mid)

Man City pay £62.6m release clause for Atletico Madrid’s Spanish 23 yo 6ft 3 inch CDM. 3 goals 1 assist in La Liga 18/19 G/A every 685 mins.

Not a FPL player as a tackling CDM.  Will play at the base of the midfield in City’s 4-1-2-3 system.   He will be part of a Fernandinho phase out to help maintain defensive solidity.  May start GW1 with Fernadinho in Brazil for the Copa America.

Angelino (£5.0m def)

Man City bring back Angelino.  A 22 yo 5′ 8” LB. In the Eredivise in 18/19 he made 34 starts for PSV for 1 goal & 10 assists.  That’s an impressive G/A every 277 mins😲. 2 games Spain U21.

If Mendy is  fit then I would be surprised if he didn’t play LB.   I imagine Zenchenko at £5.5m in FPL would play if Mendy isn’t fit but Angelino at £5.0m in FPL if he forces his way into the team somehow would be a bargain. The Community Shield will presumably be a full strength Man City team Copa America restees apart.

Freeman (£5.5m mid)

Sheffield United have signed 27 year old 5 foot 9 inch attacking midfielder Luke Freeman from Championship side QPR for an undisclosed record fee.  He played 43 games in the Championship for 8 goals and 6 assists with a goal or assist every 270 minutes.  He played 2 games for the England Under 17 team.

While Sheffield United seem impressed by the stats from my point of view they are nothing to write home about that’s for sure.

Sheffield played mainly a 3-4-1-2 so you would think he would look to play as the CAM where his only competition at the moment is 33 year old Mark Duffy now Dowell has gone back to Everton

Preseason will assist in finding the lineup and his prospects.  Fixtures aren’t great.  Btw there’s also a Sheffield United defender called Freeman.

Fahrmann (not in FPL)

Ralf Fahrmann loan from Scahlke to Norwich. 30 yo GK. 196 Bundesliga games. 23 Europa League 16 Champions League. 1 game for Germany U21. 18/19 season 25 games for Schalke incl 6 UCL matches.

The current incumbent is Tim Krul who himself is 31 so not significantly older so hard to figure out who will be number 1.

To me the Norwich defensive record in the Championship doesn’t particularly warrant attention to it for 19/20 and the fixtures are terrible.

He’s not in FPL as yet but I suspect he will be £4.5m.  Norwich were one of the few sides with a £4.5m starting GK with a £4.0m back up which I imagine will now be ended.

Here’s a link to an article on his signing and also again my promoted teams article

Guilbert (not in FPL)

Aston Villa sign 24 yo 5 foot 10 inch French RB from French side Caen for £5.3m.  In 18/19 he started 33 games plus 1 as sub in Ligue 1 for Caen for 1 goal and 2 assists plus a tasty 9 yellow cards.  That’s a goal or assist every 972 minutes which means he won’t be looked at for his attacking ability that”s for sure.  He played 1 game for the French U21 side

For those thinking of  El Mohamady (assuming he is back from AFCON in good time) this provides some competition.  Without Mings or Tuanzebe in the picture at the moment I would seriously worry about their defence as a source of clean sheets.

Fixtures are mixed.  Here’s an article on him and again my promoted teams article

Wan Bissaka (£5.5m def)

Man Utd only had 7 clean sheets last season.  Only Fulham and Huddersfield had less.  Yet the defence is pretty uniformly priced at £5.5m which is Wan Bissaka’s price.  Now there’s no doubt Wan Bissaka’s defensive stats were excellent but with only 3 assists in 3,134 minutes and a pitiful xA of 0.07  then there’s alot to do to be the attacking player United will need.

So at the defensive and attacking end he looks very avoidable.  However should United buy say Maguire, a CDM who is far more mobile than Matic and keep De Gea then at least Wan Bissaka will be fairly priced in a decent defence on paper.  What he can do is get bonus points with 18 last season.  Only 7 defenders got more.  However that was to do with his defensive activity in a defensive minded low possession team.  The nightmare scenario is  minimal clean sheets, minimal attacking output and low bonus potential if he has to do less defensive work.

Fixtures are a bit mixed, especially the first 2.

Perez (£6.5m mid)

Perez was reclassified as a midfielder from a striker quite rightly for me.  Although he drifted inwards he was more often than not on the right hand side of Benitez’s 5-4-1 system.  His PPM was 3.8 and his PP90 4.4 both of which are ok and are based on forward point numbers not mids.  A goal or assist every 208 minutes is ok but nothing to write home about.

His reclassified position did put him 6th on my midfield form charts though at the end of the season.  His xG/xA of 0.25/0.12 is again ok and close to acceptable for his price.  His shot volumes of 1.68 per 90 are awful although this can be a questionable indicator.  What he has done regularly is out perform his overall stats although not to the extent of last season.  That over performance was higher than I’d expect but his overall underlying stats have been pretty consistent each season.

The question is where will he play and what sort of bounce will there be for a side that is far more attacking than Benitez’s very defensive side.  Rodgers mainly played a 4-1-4-1 with Ndidi in the single pivot and Maddison and Tielemans in front of him as CMs.  I expect Perez to play on the right of that formation where he will compete with Demari Gray and Marc Albrighton.  How much of a bounce can we expect?  Leicester scored 1.7 goals per game under Rodgers compared to  Newcastles 1.1 per game so there definitely is potential for upside. I guess the dream scenario is that he covers an injury of Vardy as a CF. Ihenacho doesn’t seem to have Rodgers confidence and is the only real (non false 9 at least) cover at the moment.
