ALDERWEIRELD

The Spurs CB left the field after 64 minutes with an injury.  Initial view from Pochettinho is that it doesn’t seem serious.  Here’s what he said:

“I think [the injury] doesn’t look bad,” he added. “We don’t know if it was an injury or it was a precaution that he decided to come off the pitch.

“I think he felt tired and I think, when we were talking, it doesn’t look bad for Toby.”

The CB position is a bit confused.  The injury to the other CB Vertonghen was supposed to deliver us cheapie £4.6m CB Wimmer in a back 3 with Alderweireld and Dier.  However Wimmer was subbed early vs Man City and Pochettinho reverted to a back 4.  So the Wimmer dream looks potentially dead unless Alderweireld is a long term injury and Wimmer is the only option to partner Dier.  However it does bring into play whether the Dier and Wimmer partnership in a back 4 would be worth backing?  Confused well  it looks like we need another week to sort out what the reality is.  Assuming the Alderweireld injury isn’t long term then Wimmer will only get in with a back 3

OGBONNA & FONTE

The West Ham CB looks out for the season needing knee surgery.  Good thing Portugese International Jose Fonte has been signed from Southampton and he looks like he will be a partner for CB Reid in a back 4.   Bit expensive for me at £5.3m and if you’re set on spending that much for a West Ham defender I would go for Cresswell as a far better attacking option.  Here’s the link to the BBC article

ROJO

Missed the 1-1 draw with Stoke through illness.  No word on how long it will be.  Here’s a link to the Metro article

BERAHINO

With his contract expiring in the summer WBA striker Berahino was sold to Stoke for £12m.  He hasn’t played for WBA  since September for various fitness reasons.

So far this season he’s made a massive 4 premier league appearances for 245 minutes with nothing but a yellow card to show for it.

Here’s his stats from the 3 seasons before that.  I’ve put the basic facts to the left of the table and then the analysis in italics.  They’re nothing to write home about and in any case I can’t imagine he’ll be match fit for a while.  He’ll start with sub appearances so we’ll get a chance to see how he fits in.

Good luck for Sunday
