Here’s our fantasy premier league news update for Monday 30 January.  We update you on injuries, transfers, AFCON and the blank and double gameweeks after the 5th round FA Cup draw.  I’ve tried to do it in a brief easy to read article with links to newspapers if you want to know more

fantasy premier league news update Monday 30 January – injuries, transfers, AFCON and blank/double gameweeks

INJURIES and GAMETIME

Liverpool, Lallana, Clyne Mane and Firmino

Lallana is available to start but Clyne hasn’t trained and is a doubt.  Here’s Klopp:

Adam is fine for selection and with Clyney we have to see again.
‘It’s difficult [with Clyne] – we would love to force it but we can’t so we have to wait.

£4.3m mid Alexander-Arnold will probably play RB

Mane will have returned from AFCON but Klopp isn’t sure whether he will start

Firmino’s drink driving case has been moved to after the GW23 game so he’s ok.

Here’s the link to the Liverpool Echo covering both and the injuries too

Aguero

The £12.8m forward trained with his Man City team mates so looks a decent shout to start away to West Ham.  Here’s a link to the Man City website article

Spurs – Kane, Rose and Alderweireld

Poch:   “Harry Kane is okay and trained well. He’s available for Sunderland,” manager Mauricio Pochettino told a pre-match news conference. “The same goes for Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose.”

Here’s a link to the four four two article on the subject

Van Dijk

Here’s Puel on the £5.8m Southampton CB:  “We know Virgil will stay for weeks out of the team.

Pending any last minute transfers.  I expect £4.2m Yoshida and young £4.0m Jack Stephens to start as CBs.  Great value and fixtures but how strong will the defence be with Fonte and Van Dijk out remains to be seen.

Here’s a link to the very good sky sports article on the subject

Various others:

This is just a copy and paste from the excellent site physioroom of various others:

Swansea:  Ki is coming back into the squad after a calf problem, while new signing Luciano Narsingh is also available

Southampton:  Puel refused to be drawn on whether James Ward-Prowse, Jay Rodriguez and Sofiane Boufal would be available for the trip to Swansea

Stoke:  Hughes on injuries: “We are OK to be honest. Cameron is still missing. Walters is recovering well and Jack Butland is the same too.”

Hull City:  A scan has revealed Curtis Davies is likely to be out of action for around eight weeks because of a hamstring strain.

Sunderland:  Ndong and Kone have returned from Int’ duty “but will have to wait a few more weeks for Pickford. Still not training fully [non-contact].

Middlesborough:  Calum Chambers [foot] is also ruled out. No definitive timeline at the moment, could be around a month.
Gaston Ramirez [knee] trained with the team on Sunday “but the physio came to my office & said he couldn’t play. ‘That was a surprise’
George Friend [hamstring] is ruled out but Antonio Barragan has trained ahead of the game and comes into contention.

Crystal Palace:  Schlupp injury “is not so bad as we thought. Maybe too early for Bournemouth, but certainly okay for Sunderland.” Baky Sako is back

Leicester:  Ulloa has said he will not play for the team again

AFCON

Returning

Difficult to say whether they will play in GW23.  Certainly doubts have been raised over Mane, Gueye and Kouyate.  The only real relevant FPL player is Mane and we’ve talked about that above.

Hull: Dieumerci Mbokani (DR Congo)
Sunderland: Wahbi Khazri (Tunisia)
Everton: Idrissa Gueye (Senegal)
Liverpool: Sadio Mane (Senegal)
West Ham: Cheikou Kouyate (Senegal)
Stoke: Mame Biram Diouf (Senegal),

Staying at AFCON

The semis are played on Wednesday and Thursday.  No one particularly FPL relevant.

Stoke: Ramadan Sobhi (Egypt)
West Ham: Andre Ayew (Ghana),
Arsenal: Mohamed Elneny (Egypt)
Leicester City: Daniel Amartey (Ghana)
Hull City: Ahmed Elmohamady (Egypt),

TRANSFERS

Van Aanholt to Palace

Palace buying Schlupp and Van Aanholt is interesting as both are attacking minded LB/LWB’s.  So presumably one will play further forward than the other?  Schlupp is out until GW24 so GW23 won’t provide any answers.  The question is whether the attack of Van Aanholt is worth the Palace defence.  Van Anholt currently stands at 54th in points per match and at £5.0m is expensive for a Palace defender.  If he plays as an LAM then it’s a different story with Palaces fixtures but it’s a wait and see at the moment.  Here’s a link to a sky sports article on the transfer.

Fwd Manoli Gabbiadini from Napoli to Southampton £14.6m

It’s an agreement to buy at the moment so whether he’ll be playing in GW23 remains to be seen.

Here’s his stats as a start

He’s played 6 times for Italy scoring 1 goal

Not too bad.  He’ll be in competition for likely 1 spot between Rodriguez and Long.  Both have been rotated and have yet to nail down a spot as a certain starter.  Whether the 25 year old Gabbiadini will go straight into the team remains to be seen given match fitness.  Price will also be important.

Here’s a guardian article on the proposed transfer

Inter Milan loan CB Andrea Ranocchia to Hull City

The 28 year old Italian has played 29 games for Inter Milan over the last 2 season although only 5 in Serie A this season.  He’s not scored in those 2 seasons so don’t expect a goal scoring CB.

He has played 21 times for Italy so obviously no mug.  Silva played 3 defenders against Chelsea although hasn’t always.  With Davies out for 2 months possibly £4.4m Maguire could be the sacrifice.  In any case £4.3m LB/LWB Robertson still looks the best value defender.  What this does is potentially continue to cement the improvement that Silva has bought to the team

Here’s the Sky Sports article on the transfer

LB Oviedo and CDM Gibson from Everton to Sunderland

Oviedo is actually classified as a midfielder.  Both are £4.3m mids.

Neither look particularly attractive FPL options and lack of match fitness and Spurs next means hard to see any reason to jump early on them

Here’s 4-4-2 article on the transfer

BLANKS AND DOUBLE GAMEWEEKS

At the moment Southampton v Arsenal plus Man City v Man Utd is out of GW26 due to the EFL Final with the fixtures TBC

GW28 will see the FA Cup quarters replacing PL games.  Only 3 games at the moment are confirmed for GW28

Bournemouth v West Ham
Everton v West Ham
Hull City v Swansea City

Here’s a reminder of the status of other fixtures:

Here’s the FA Cup 5th round draw:

Burnley v Lincoln City
Fulham v Tottenham Hotspur
Blackburn Rovers v Manchester United
Sutton United v Arsenal
Middlesbrough v Oxford United
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Chelsea
Huddersfield Town v Manchester City
Millwall v Derby County/Leicester City

So as you can see no PL v PL games.  So if all PL teams win then there will only be 3 games in GW28.  If you’re a glass half full person then you’ll be celebrating a potential big DGW down the line.  Half empty people will be fretting about a 3 fixture GW28

4 transfers before GW26 and 6 before GW28
