INJURIES AND GAMETIME ISSUES
RYAN MASON
The Hull CM was seriously injured with a fractured skull in a head clash with Gary Cahill. Now slowly on the mend and Hull hope to have him back for next season. Not particularly FPL relevant but Meyler was the replacement for the injury and it’s a fairly like for like replacement. Here’s the link to the guardian article for more
VAN DIJK
The Southampton manager Claude Puel is unsure whether the CB will participate in the EFL Cup semi this week after coming off early v Leicester but nothing to suggest he will miss GW23 at the moment
Claude Puel:
“It was a good kick (on his ankle),” Puel said. “He couldn’t continue the game yesterday, for example.
“It is not serious but I do not know if he can participate for this game. He is having a scan and I will wait for the results at the moment.”

ANICHEBE
The £4.5m forward cheapie is out for 12 weeks with knee ligament damage. I suspect either £5.3m midfielder Januzaj or £5.1m forward Borini will play as a support striker to Jermain Defoe. Neither have shown themselves as a viable FPL option so far. Thats unless he can make a signing before the transfer window closes. Given Moyes’ signing’s to date I wouldn’t be surprised to see Duncan Ferguson roll up. Here’s a link to the Chronicle article if you want to read more
DJILOBODJI
The Sunderland CB is looking like he’ll be banned for 4 games for violent conduct after the altercation with Darren Fletcher. First choice CB Kone will be back from AFCON soon and will step in. Djilobodji should then return so no replacement with any longevity although £4.4m CB O’shea should hold his place until then. Here’s the link to the BBC report
SNODGRASS
Supposedly injured for the Chelsea game but speculation was natural due to Middlesborough and West Ham interest after he refused a new contract. It will be interesting to see if he lines up against Man Utd in the EFL Cup semi. Here’s a link to the Gazette report.
TRANSFERS
LAZAR MARKOVIC
£5.4m right winger Lazar Markovic joins Hull on loan from Liverpool. Possibly as a contingency for Snodgrass leaving. The 22 year old Serbian was at Sporting Lisbon last season. He started 1 league game plus 5 as sub for 205 minutes and 1 goal. In the previous season to that he was on loan to Fenerbache. He started 9 league games and 5 as sub for 805 mins. Given lack of match fitness we’ll see him as sub I imagine to start with and that will give a view of position, impact and gametime so no need to panic buy now thats for sure. Here’s a link to the BBC newspaper story
LESCOTT
The 34 year old former Man City and Everton CB joined Sunderland on a free. Last season he played 4 times in the league for AEK Athens. I think ultimately at the moment Djilobodji and Kone will be the CB’s with O’Shea as cover so I can’t really see Lescott as anything other than desperation cover at CB. I guess he could play LB if Van Aanholt does leave as is rumoured. No price on FPL as yet. Here’s a link to a Guardian article

KLOPP CLEAR THE AIR TALKS
This guardian article is interesting in it shows that Klopp isn’t blind to the defensive problems. Matip returning may help. The Southampton EFL semi will be interesting
