fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” midfielders – GW8 Buy Hold or Sell

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s the GW8 “ones to watch” for Midfielders on the Barclays fantasy premier league  in the buy hold or sell format for GW8.  This will give the best midfield players at a variety of price ranges using a range of stats to make my case

I’ve provided the following stats to support the player choices and to guide you in your decisions.  I’ve now moved this to this year:

1.  Goals and assists this year.   I’ve now started using this years stats although its very early to draw a picture

2.  Time per point scored this year.  This is how many minutes it takes for a Barclays fantasy premier league point to be scored over the course of last season.  The lower the better obviously.   I’ve now moved to this years stats

3.  Rotation risk.  High, medium or low.  High is the greatest risk of rotation.

4.  Fixture ease ranking:  The link is at the bottom of the article but essentially I’ve ranked all the teams by the ease of the first 6 fixtures.  The team with the best ranking ie 1 will have the easiest next fixtures of any of the fantasy premier league teams over the next 6 games.

5.  Consistency:  The % of times that the player got a goal or assist or 2 point minimum bonus  as a % of games played

6.  I’ve also ranked them in their categories as who I think is currently the best choice

Midfielders

1.  Michu (£9.0m) BUY

  • Goals and assists:  2 goal 1 assist.  Time per point scored:  20.3 mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 2nd.  Consistency 3/7    43%

Great set of fixtures coming up for the man with probably the best overall underlying stats despite the tricky fixtures

Next 6 fixtures:

Sunderland (H)
West Ham (H)
Cardiff City (A)
Stoke City (H)
Fulham (A)
Man City (A)

2.  Ramsey (£6.6m)  HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  4 goals 2 assists.  Time per point scored:  12.7  mins .  Rotation risk: medium.   fixture ease ranking: 9th.  Consistency 4/7   57%

2 good fixtures to come before 3 tricky ones for the box to box sensation.  Playing out on the right against WBA did blunt his game although that may have been partly due to an injury which saw him off after 58 minutes.  has reasonable underlying shooting stats and definitely worth having for the next 2 fixtures but the long term prognosis still has to be questionable for the man who’s never scored more than 3 goals in a season.  Played on Friday so looks like he’s fit.

Next 6 fixtures:

Norwich (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Liverpool (H)
Man Utd (A)
Southampton (H)
Cardiff City (A)

3.  Ozil (£10.6) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  0 goals 4 assist.  Time per point scored:  14.0 mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 9th.  Consistency 2/4    50%

2 blanks now but with 2 great fixtures there’s a definite need to hold. A man who’s game is based on assists is still questionable in the current bonus point environment but if one player has the class to overcome this its him

Next 6 fixtures:

Norwich (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Liverpool (H)
Man Utd (A)
Southampton (H)
Cardiff City (A)

4.  Oscar (£8.8m)  HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  3 goals 0 assists  Time per point scored:  14.2 mins .  Rotation risk: medium.   fixture ease ranking: 10th.  Consistency: 3/7   43%

Another goal and its an impressive 3 in his first 7 games.  Definitely has the ability to get into the box and has the trust of Mourinho which will lessen his gametime risk but  the only question is whether  the reemergence of Mata means that he will lose the number 10 spot

Next 6 fixtures:

Cardiff City (H)
Man City (H)
Newcastle (A)
West Brom (H)
West Ham (A)
Southampton (H)

5.  Siggy (£7.3m) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  3 goals 0 assist.  Time per point scored:  11.9 mins .  Rotation risk: high.   fixture ease ranking: 17th.  Consistency 2/6    33%

You know when Big Sam is shouting to whoever wants to listen what a tactical genius he is after West Ham’s thumping of Spurs then maybe the inverted wingers tactic needs some modifying.  Whatever the case Siggy may be the victim here in an extreme situation when Lennon returns to the right and Townsend moves to the left.  I wouldn’t panic sell but I don’t think that buying at the moment is wise.

Next 6 fixtures:

Aston Villa (A)
Hull City (H)
Everton (A)
Newcastle (H)
Man City (A)
Man Utd (H)

6. Eriksen (£8.2m) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  0 goals 1 assist.  Time per point scored:  23.1  mins .  Rotation risk: medium.   fixture ease ranking: 17th.  Consistency 1/4   25%

Has been incredibly disappointing after assist in his first game and not giving any underlying stats to give us hope that he will recover despite having free kicks in his armoury.  Possible stunted by spurs lack of width and opponents clogging the centre but whatever it is he’s producing nothing at the moment.  Still I would hold on for 2 fixtures maybe even 4 for the Man City game before selling

Next 6 fixtures:

Aston Villa (A)
Hull City (H)
Everton (A)
Newcastle (H)
Man City (A)
Man Utd (H)

 HBA (£7.3m) SELL

Left out of the Cardiff fixture due to a lack of interest in tracking back. and with Liverpool the next game looks time to sell for me

Budget midfielders

1.  Barkley (£5.5m) BUY –   Now seems to have cemented his place as the CAM behind Lukaku where they seem to have established an understanding

2.  Amalfitano  (£5.1m) BUY – looks a real quality player on his showing so far which have produced 2 goals and 2 assists in his first  4 games.  Fixtures aren’t that great  but looks a real threat

3.  Whittingham (£5.1m) HOLD –   Has set pieces and pens and shown a reasonable return with 1 goal and 2 assists in first 7 games.

4.  Brady (£5.2m) HOLD –    Injured and out until GW9 so if you have the depth hold on because he definitely is one of the better budget midfielders

5.  Januzaj (£4.7m) BUY – A punt given the competition for his place but one with a significant upside given his 2 goal haul against and worth taking in my mind

6.  R Morrison (£4.4m) BUY – started the last 4 games which have resulted in 2 goals and now looks a good cheapie option
