Fantasy Premier League

With Liverpool having a fixture in GW28 here’s a close look at the 4 key Liverpool midfielders.  We analyse their returns, positioning and underlying stats.  We also look at how they’ve performed in their favoured 4-3-3 formation

LINEUP

Firstly lets look at how Liverpool can lineup in their favoured 4-3-3 formation as it was against Spurs.  Graphic from great website football-lineups:

It’s worth noting at this stage that Coutinho and Milner tend to share the set pieces with Milner having pens.

PASS AND POSITION MAP

Here’s their pass and position map from 11tegen11:  It’s the game at Hull City

So that reflects the lineup but does show how far Lallana gets forward from the CM position

SEASON STATS

There’s a key at the bottom of the page if you’re not familiar with the table.

On that schedule, Mane clearly is the best with the best points per match, best recent form, best underlying stats, the most consistent and the most explosive.

UNDERLYING STATS CLOSER UP

Here’s how their underlying stats look like on the excellent Squawka:

These are stats over the season.  My stats in the table include a weighting for recent form which is why Mane is ahead.  Over the season though you’ve got to give it to Firmino.

HOW DO THEY PERFORM IN THEIR FAVOURED 4-3-3

According to my research Liverpool have played 10 games with Coutinho, Firmino and Mane in a front 3.  AFCON and injuries have been the main interruption.  Here’s a table which shows those 10 fixtures and the points, goals and assists that resulted from those games:

This is very interesting.  Coutinho comes out very well until his recent form with 3 blanks.  In the last 2 games though his underlying stats were good.  The shocking thing about Coutinho though is that he hasn’t returned a goal or assist in his last 7 games which is 5 starts and 2 sub appearances.

The scary things as well is that it’s so hard to predict who’s going to get the points in any given performance

SO WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

The stats are all there for you to make your own decision  on who’s best.

Mane certainly has the edge on the season stats and his underlying stats are very good too.  He also has performed well in the 4-3-3 formation.

Firmino has the central position although in 4-3-3 he hasn’t performed as well as the other 2 players in the front 3.

Coutinho until he blanked in the last 3 has been phenomenal in the 4-3-3.  However the fact he hasn’t returned in his last 5 starts and 2 sub appearances makes it a brave decision

As I write this I’m probably going Mane but that could change.
