fantasy premier league players to pick – FFGeek team for GW2 only

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s a team just for GW2 only. No other fixtures taken into account.  If you want a longer term view then go to my imaginary wildcard team article of yesterday.  If you’re planning a transfer you’ll want to see they have a good chance of returning straight away in gameweek 2 and these picks may just make the difference.  I’ve also ignored value of the team.  This is just about the best individual players

Here’s the team with commentary on each player below.  The comments are fairly brief given the time but the “ones to watch” articles will have mopre detail:

De Gea

Last season only Chelsea and Everton  conceded less goals away than Man Utd  and only Chelsea had more clean sheets.  Sunderland aren’t exactly a scoring machine and there has to be some chance of a clean sheet here

Lloris

QPR did dominate the game against Hull despite ending scoreless but if Spurs can shackle Remy then a clean sheet has to be a possibility.  Who knows who will lineup in defence for Spurs so Lloris at least gives some gametime certainty with Vorm looking like the cup specialist

Terry

The best defence last season by some distance didn’t look their usual selves against Burnley as the Mourinho attacking revolution got into full swing. However if they can’t keep a clean sheet at home to a newly promoted side then we’ll really have to start to worry.

Taylor

The Swansea home defence wasn’t anythng to write home about last season but if you’re clean sheet hunting then home to a newly promoted side has to be high on the shopping list.  Burnley looked reasonably lively against Chelsea and were only kept scoreless 3 times in 23 games last season in the Championship.  Only Leicester had the better stat for this.  However the basic rule still applies and you have to give Swansea a reasonable chance of a clean sheet

Chester

Stoke would be in the dictionary under ordinary attack away from home.  Hull didn’t look that solid against QPR despite the clean sheet but they did have an excellent clean sheet record at home last year getting as many clean sheets as Everton

Clyne

Southampton were one of the pleasant surprises of GW1 and looked surprisingly solid against Liverpool.  WBA weren’t exactly the most successful attacking teams last season only scoring 1 more goal than Stoke and Hull.  A clean sheet has to be some sort of prospect

Ward

Palace looked good defensively against Arsenal and you can’t ask for more than West Ham at home if you’re hunting for clean sheets.  Only Cardiff and Norwich last season scored less or were kept scoreless more than West Ham.  Big Sams supposed attacking revolution hasn’t exactly been a success to date.

Silva

I’ve gone for Silva against Liverpool as the Man City player to pick especially if he is up against young Manquillo. Lovren alone can’t transform a defence that only got 4 clean sheets last season.

Eriksen

QPR  may have strengthened their defence but they didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory over Hull despite dominating the game.  Eriksen will have set pieces and whether positioned centrally or not thats where he will end up given his tendency to centrally drift.

Ince

Should line up as a support striker against Stoke.  Only the 3 relegated teams conceded more goals away from home than Stoke last season

Hazard

At home game against lower placed opposition is a time that Hazard could score anything from 2 points to 20.  Leicester will struggle to keep up with the Fabregas and Costa infused Chelsea and any score could be on the cards

Sigurdsson

As long as he lines up centrally we could look forward to more returns after his goal and assist haul against United.  While Burnley had a good record defensively away the premier league is another ketlle of fish so Siggy looks a good bet for further returns

Bony

Bony really looked in good form towards the end of the season and a home game against the newly promoted team looks a good opportunity to increase those

Diego Costa

After great start against Burnley he looks in a great position to add to his goal to date.

Rooney

Only Liverpool and Man City scored more goals away than United and although Sunderland are a good defensive team United will be on a mission to put the Swansea game in the past.
