fantasy premier league pre-season Saturday 4 August catch up

Fantasy Premier League, Preseason

Here’s our fantasy premier league pre-season 4 August catch up where we look at the lineups and form of all the pre-season games on that day.

fantasy premier league pre-season Saturday 4 August catch up

Arsenal 2 Lazio 0

Goals from Nelson and Aubameyang

Here’s the lineup:

ARSENAL: Leno; Lichtsteiner (Bellerin 61), Holding (Mavropanos 77), Chambers (Sokratis 77), Maitland-Niles; Xhaka (Ozil 61), Torreira (Elneny 61), Iwobi (Mkhitaryan 61); Nelson (Guendouzi 45), Lacazette (Smith Rowe), Nketiah (Aubameyang)

This was a game which pretty much was the 2nd string eleven.  To me that means that £5.0m GK Cech is the favourite GK to start, there’s no £5.6m Def and Lacazette seems the most likely to miss out on a front 3.

Bournemouth 5 Marseille 2

Goals:  King 2 Wilson A Smith Fraser

Cherries: Begovic, A Smith, S Cook, Ake (Hyndman, 52), Daniels, Gosling, Surman, Brooks (Hobson, 84), Fraser (Dobre, 76), Wilson, King (Worthington, 76).

This could be a GW1 team as much as anything is predictable under Howe.  £6.5m King is the main watchout so far and he scored twice today.  Bournemouth do have good fixtures though as you’ll see from our fixture ease article

Cardiff 1 Real Betis 2

Goal:  Murphy

Cardiff City: Etheridge, Peltier, Morrison, Manga, Bennett (Cunningham 71’), Bamba, Ralls, Paterson, Hoilett (Damour 63’), J. Murphy (Mendez-Laing 71’), Decordova-Reid (Zohore 63’).
Subs not used: B.Murphy, Connolly, Harris, Madine.

Good news that £4.0m Peltier started and he looks like an option for GW1.  £5.0m set piece man Ralls also started and if you want more to punt for attacking options there are £5.5m Paterson and Hoilett.  Both started but neither have been on fire in pre-season.

Palace 4 Toulouse 1

Goals;  Benteke Schlupp, Milivojevic pen and Zaha

Guaita, Wan-Bissaka (Ward 63), Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt (Souare 83), Townsend, Milivojevic, McArthur (Williams 88), Schlupp (Kouyate 73), Zaha (Kaikai 82), Benteke (Sørloth 82). Subs not used: Speroni, Kelly, Puncheon, Wickham.

So £4.0m def Wan-Bissaka started which again is helpful.  £4.5m Def Schlupp again played in midfield which gives another defensive option.  This looks like a potential GW1 team and £6.5m forward Benteke starting probably rules out £5.0m forward cheapie Sorloth.  Another goal from £7.0m forward Zaha which is good news on the form front.

Everton 2 Valencia 3

Scorers: Tosun (17′), Keane (30′);

Everton: Stekelenburg, Baines (46′ Digne), Keane, Jagielka, Coleman, Scheiderlin, Gueye (74′ Davies), Sigurdsson (86′ Dowell), Richarlison (81′ Lookman), Walcott (60′ Sandro), Tosun (74′ Calvert-Lewin [Y:91′]).
Subs not Used: Pickford, Virginia, Connolly, Kenny, Pennington, Besic, Niasse.

The lineup was incredibly attacking with AMs Richarlison, Walcott and Sigurdsson all on the pitch. The defence is looking shambolic but if you’re looking at Coleman you’re looking at good fixtures and attacking points.  The return of Pickford when match fit and the signing of Digne may help this.  Of the attacking players £6.5m mid Walcott looked rusty and £7.5m Sigurdsson dominated set pieces.  £6.5m mid Richarlison and £7.0m forward Tosun came out with the most credit.

Fulham 2 Celta Vigo 2

Goals:  Mitrovic and Kamara

Line-up: 4-3-3 Fabri; Christie (Fossey 79′), Le Marchand, Ream, Sessegnon; Seri, McDonald, Cairney (Johansen 60′); Kamara, Mitrovic (Kebano 79′), Schurrle (Sessegnon 68′)

Unused substitutes: Cisse, Ashby-Hammond, Odoi, Fonte

The first thing to hit you was the sight of £6.5m mid Ryan Sessegnon at LB. That hopefully isn’t a sign of GW1.  This to me looks like the GW1 lineup with Sessegnon replacing Kamara and Odoi going to CB with Le Marchand LB.  It was like £6.5m fwd Mitrovic had never been away and the fact he lasted 79 minutes has to be a huge positive.

Lille 1 Leicester 2

City: Schmeichel, Chilwell, Morgan (c), Benalouane (Johnson 72), Amartey (Knight 83), Iborra (Silva 46 (Ndukwu 87)), Ndidi (Elder 72), Albrighton, Maddison (Diabaté 56), Pereira (Fuchs 72), Iheanacho (Gordon 72)

Subs not used: Ward

Goals: Iheanacho 35, 59

This looks pretty much like the lineup for GW1 although once Vardy and £5.5m mid Gray are back there are some questions.  £6.0m Iheanacho and £6.5m mid Maddison have been the form players of pre-season so I could see Iheanacaho playing upfront with Vardy and Maddison on the flank at Grays expense.

Liverpool 5 Napoli 0

Milner 4′ (assist – Mane) Wijnaldum 9′ (assist – Milner) Salah 58′ (assist – none) Sturridge 73′ (assist – Origi) Moreno 77′ (assist – Sturridge)

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Clyne, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wiljnaldum, Milner, Keita; Salah, Mane, Firmino

Subs: Karius, Fabinho, Sturridge, Moreno, Shaqiri, Origi, Solanke, Phillips, Jones, Kelleher, Camacho, Alexander-Arnold

The £5.0m RB position looks like it will be Clynes in the short term until TAA is match fit to compete for it and maybe the same for £5.0m def Gomez until Lovren is fit. Long term though I expect Lovren to play CB.  The RB situation looks trickier but I would probably edge it to TAA when match fit.  £6.0m forward Sturridge gave way to Firmino but isn’t giving the position away without a fight. Although ultimately £9.5m Firmino is too important to lose the position

Newcastle 0 Augsburg 1

NUFC XI – (4-2-3-1)– Darlow – Yedlin, Lascelles Clark, Dummett – Hayden, Diame – Ritchie, Perez, Atsu – Joselu.

SUBS: Elliot, Sterry, Manquillo, Schar, Murphy, Shelvey, Longstaff, Ki, Roberts, Kenedy.

If you want a Newcastle defender then Yedlin at £4.5m remains my choice.  £5.0m Kenedy is my preferred attacking option but he has had virtually no gametime over pre-season due to the birth of his child.  He got 33 mins today and there’s got to be a lot of risk to him starting GW1.

£6.5m Perez has some following from FPL managers but with the fixtures and a withdrawn striker role I can’t see him as an option.

Southampton 0 Monchengladbach 3

Southampton: McCarthy; Targett (McQueen 79), Bednarek (Stephens 46), Vestergaard (Yoshida 69), Hoedt (Davis 79), Bertrand; Hojbjerg (Romeu 62), Lemina (Ward-Prowse 62); Armstrong (Elyounoussi 46), Austin (Redmond 69), Gabbiadini (Long 69).

Subs not used: Gunn, Lewis, Reed, Sims, Gallagher.

£4.0m Bednarek started but I still think Yoshida will displace him when fit.  £6.5m mid Elyounoussi’s gametime looks risky to start with him.  There are 3 strikers to go into 2 likely positions and although it’s hard to see £6.0m Charlie Austin not starting today can’t have helped.

Girona 4 Spurs 1

Goal:  Moura

Spurs: Vorm (c, Gazzaniga 46), Aurier (Walker-Peters 46), Eyoma (Dinzeyi 79), Davies, Georgiou, Amos (Maghoma 79), Marsh (Bowden 83), Skipp, Lucas (Llorente 46), Nkoudou (Tanganga 63), Son (Tracey 79). Substitute (not used): Whiteman.

You only need to look at the lineup to see what an irrelvance this fixture was.  One of the bright spots of pre-season has been £7.0m Lucas Moura and he should get a few games with the World Cup absentees and Son off to the Asian games.

Wolves 2 Villareal 1

Goals:  Boly Jimenez

Wolves: Patricio, Doherty, Neves, Jimenez (Bonatini 72), Costa, Boly, Coady, Jota (Cavaleiro 77), Otto, Saiss (Bennett 46), Moutinho (Gibbs-White 72).

Subs: Ruddy, Norris, Batth, Enobakhare, Vinagre, Hause.

The game looks like it could be the end for £4.0m Def Bennett as Saiss took his position.  The good news was that £5.5m cheapie striker Jimenez started and scored even if he could be a bit of a Bonatini sub magnet.  £5.5m mid Moutinho looks to be taking set pieces.
