fantasy premier league preseason catch up – Saturday 26 July and Sunday 27 July games – part 2

Preseason

Here’s the 2nd part of our fantasy premier league pre-season catch up for the games over the last weekend.  We’ll look at the lineups and what that could mean for GW1. We’ll also look at how the bargains are doing as well as the heavy hitters and look for form in games.  Lastly we’ll give our view on what we think the GW1 lineup will be on current information

fantasy premier league preseason catch up – Saturday 26 July and Sunday 27 July games – part 2

Man Utd 3 Roma 2

Manchester United: (3-5-2) Johnstone 5.5 (Amos 45mins 6); Blackett 5.5, Jones 6 (M Keane 45mins 6), Evans 6 (Smalling 45mins 6); Valencia 5.5 (Young 45mins 5.5), Herrera 6 (Nani 45mins 5), Cleverley 5 (Hernandez 69mins 6), Mata 7 (Kagawa 45mins 6), James 6 (Shaw 45mins 6.5); Rooney 8.5 (W Keane 45mins 6), Welbeck 6.5 (Lingard 45mins 6)
Goals: Rooney 36 and 44 (pen), Mata 39

Ratings from the Daily Mail

LVG used the 3-5-2 formation that in my mind is the best option for us FPL managers.  It means Rooney will partner RVP (assuming RVP is fit) and Mata can play in behind them as he did last night.  That gives us maximum options and also allows us to pick Rooney instead of RVP with RVP having pens as the difference for his £2m odd.

Rooney was excellent with 2 goals and the assist for Mata.  Mata’s link up play with Rooney was also good and everything here bodes well for the attacking options.  Defensively not so much.  The back 3 apart from Jones really didn’t look assured at all and Shaw while good going forward was ordinary defensively.  United have excellent fixtures to start with but this game didn’t inspirte confidence to spend £5.5m on a defender.

Here’s how I see the Man Utd GW1 lineup on current info and assuming RVP is fit:

De Gea – Smalling, Jones, Evans – Shaw, Valencia, Herrera, Fletcher/Cleverly, Mata – Rooney, RVP

Wellington Phoenix 0 Newcastle 1

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Elliot, Yanga-Mbiwa (Satka 65), Coloccini (Vuckic 78), S Taylor, Haidara (Dummett 76), Anita, Colback, Abeid (Aarons 46), Gouffran (Campbell 85), De Jong (Perez 31), Riviere (Armstrong 65).

Goal:  Gouffran

With Janmaat, Krul, Sissoko, Cabella and Ameobi on World Cup rest the picture here isn’t that complete.   £4.0m S Taylor started with YMB at RB but again £4.0m Dummet didn’t.  Midfielder Gouffran showed that he can be an attacking threat but at £6.5m and with no gametime security he’s still a big risk.  £7.0m Riverie again played well.

Here’s what I think the GW1 lineup could be

Krul – Janmaat, Haidara/Santon, Coloccini,  S Taylor/YMB – Tiote, Colback/Anita – Cabella/Gouffran, Sissoko, De Jong – Riverie

Leipzig 2 QPR 0

QPR first half: Green, Simpson, Ferdinand, Hill, Phillips, Barton, Austin, Wright-Phillips, Doughty, Henry, Dunne.

QPR second half: Green, Caulker, Collison, Wright-Phillips (Ehmer 69), Onuoha, O’Neil, Faurlin, Petrasso, Dunne (Sendles-White 69), Zamora, Sutherland.

Not much positive to come out of this game for QPR.  Ferdinand at £4.5m is the most likely defender for bonus points (is Yun Yoon the South Korean LB?) but only Remy looks likely in attack.

Here’s a go at the likely lineup although really need more preseason for me to be anything like confident:

Green – Simpson, ???, Caulker, Ferdinand – Barton Henry SWP Hoilett – Austin Remy

1860 Munich 2 Stoke 0

Stoke (1st half): Sorensen, Wilkinson (Bardsley,34), Muniesa, Shawcross, Wilson, Shotton, Whelan, Ireland, Bojan, Arnautovic

Stoke (2nd half): Bachmann, Bardsley (Ness,65), Pieters, Huth, Teixeira, Walters, Nzonzi, Adam, Sidwell, Shea, Crouch.

No Begovic, Odemwingie, Cameron and Palacios from the World Cup.  Hard to take much from a game with 2 different teams in 2 halves and a mixed team in each.  Adam, Arnautovich shared set pieces which doesn’t help that dilemma but they were the best players.

Cameron is the only Stoke player under £5.0m likely for the defence although Bardsley has to be the favourite RB.  In Midfield it’s a pick between £6.5m Arnautovic and Odemwingie or £6.0m Adam.  Who has free kicks and pens will be a factor in this.

Here’s my guess at the GW1 lineup as it stands:

Begovic – Bardsley/Cameron, Huth, Shawcross – Sidwell, Adam/NZonzi – Arnautovic, Odemwingie, Bojan – Crouch/Diouf

Plymouth 0 Swansea 4

Swansea City: Lukasz Fabianski (David Cornell, 65), Angel Rangel (Dwight Tiendalli, 45), Chico Flores (Ashley Williams, 45), Kyle Bartley (Jordi Amat, 45), Stephen Kingsley (Neil Taylor, 65), Ki Sung-yueng (Jazz Richards, 45), Jonjo Shelvey (Adam King, 65), Wayne Routledge (Jefferson Montero, 45), Nathan Dyer (Alex Bray, 65), Josh Sheehan (Gylfi Sigurdsson, 65), Rory Donnelly (Bafetimbi Gomis, 50).

Goals:   Donnelly, Amat, Sigurdsson 2

Bony was missing from World Cup duty.  There was no doubt over who was the star of this game with Siggy making a massive impression and scoring twice.  Neil Taylor should be the value at £4.5m for LB.  Thats unless new 20 yo youngster  Kingsley gets it.  He’s also £4.5m.

Midfield is difficult to predict the lineup but Siggy even though he’s slgihty more expensive than most of the Swansea midfield is the best option in my mind.  Bony is the class striker if not exactly cheap at £8.5m.

I’m not going to pick a possible GW1 lineup at the moment.  Mostly as the midfield is too tricky to predict

Chicago 0 Spurs 2

Spurs: Brad Friedel (Luke McGee, 78); Kyle Walker (Kyle Naughton, 46), Michael Dawson, Milos Veljkovic (Ryan Fredericks, 80), Danny Rose (Ben Davies, 46); Etienne Capoue, Ryan Mason; Lewis Holtby (Iago Falque, 64), Erik Lamela (Christian Eriksen, 46), Andros Townsend (Aaron Lennon, 46); Harry Kane (Roberto Soldado, 46). Unused subs: Younes Kaboul, Cristian Ceballos.

Goals:  Kane Lennon

Poccetinho played 4-2-3-1 and kept the high pressing game.  Apart from the goal scorers it was another eye catching performance from Erik Lamela.  He has alot to do but in any case it’s shame he’s £8.0m.  By the way if you play Sky he’s a steal.

With 7 players off on World Cup rest and still a mixed team of 2 halves plus a new manager I’m going to refrain from speculating on a new lineup.

Sydney 3 West Ham 1

West Ham United: Adrian (Sam Howes, 81), Guy Demel (Aaron Cresswell, 13), Joey O’Brien (Danny Potts, 72), Winston Reid, James Collins, Mark Noble (Danny Whitehead, 68), Mohamed Diame (Diego Poyet, 68), Kevin Nolan, Stewart Downing (Mathias Fanimo, 81), Matt Jarvis(Ricardo Vaz Te, 59), Carlton Cole (Mauro Zarate, 46).

Goal;  Jarvis

Things really aren’t going well for Big Sams attacking revolution at West Ham.  With Carroll injured and Valencia yet to start they seemed to have lost the ability to defend and can’t score.  Remember for the most part of the game this is a first choice team apart from Valencia and this Sydney team were beaten 4-0 by Newcastle.  So the omens aren’t good.  If you still believe however that West Ham can keep clean sheets then £4.5m Collins started again over £5.0m Tomkins.

No one else really stands out here for value or form and it’s really a matter of what Valencia looks like at £7.0m

Here’s my view of the potential GW1 lineup:

Adrain – Demel, Cresswell/O’Brien, Reid, Tomkins/Collins – Noble, Nolan, Kouyate – Jarvis/Diame,  Downing, Valencia
