In this article we’ll look at the main issues for each team in the pre-season as well as the form players and then give the potential GW1 line up on the information so far.  You may also want to refer to our article on potential GW1 risks caused by Confederation Cup participation and the Euro Under 21 competition.

Arsenal

The Arsenal lineup in itself is straightforward if everyone is available but participation in the above competitions has clouded that.  Sanchez, Mustafi, Holding, Chambers and Bellerin all participated in those competitions and have to be considered a doubt as they have yet to start in pre-season.  As Koscielny is suspended for 2 games that makes the defensive lineup anybody’s guess

Ramsey and Monreal seem to be the form players to date

Potential GW1 lineup on current information.  The missing MC is Ramsey btw

Bournemouth

No real pattern in pre-season at the moment as Eddie Howe continues to mix the team up.  £4.5m Def Francis is one of the big interests although with RB Smith A an injury doubt no long term preference will be known.  Stanislas looks unlikely to start and has no return date from injury.  I expect £5.0m Pugh to take his place although that needs monitoring.   £5.5m RM Fraser looks good value for the right

Brighton

A bit of a pattern is showing in preseason although not enough for  definitive team.  £6.0m Mid Knockaert’s injury has thrown doubt on the player of major interest to us although Hughton has said he hopes he will be fit for GW1. Dunk is the obvious £4.5m defender and should start. It’s worth looking if £4.5m Suttner gets a place at LB as he has good attacking potential. £6.0m Fwd Glen Murray played striker last season and did show some premier league form so he’s worth keeping an eye on as well. Huenemeier and Goldson are the £4.0m defs. to monitor.

Burnley

No pattern in preseason yet.  Our main interest here is a £4.5m defender which is between Lowton and Mee.  Mee has a knock with no return date and Lowton now has competition from Bardsley.   Vokes as a striker is the other interest.  However,   Vokes has an ankle injury with no return date. CB Kevin Long looks one of the most likely £4.0m defenders in FPL.

No real standout in preseason form wise

Chelsea

Hazard (GW4)  and Bakayoko (GW2)  will miss the start of the season.  Pedro also looks a doubt with no return date after concussion.  I’m assuming that Matic and Costa will have left or be persona non grata for GW1.

CB Rudiger has not played preseason due to the Confed Cup so his impact will probably be unknown.

After that it’s just Willian and Fabregas as interest points with their kind price of £7.0m.  I personally think Willian will start. I’m unsure on Fabregas but with Bakayoko a doubt then it’s hard to know long term how the CM roles will play out.

Willian and Batshuyai have been the form players

Crystal Palace

A lineup here is impossible to predict at the moment with a new manager and lots of experimenting.  What we want is a £4.5m defender but there’s no certainty at all on that.  Really Benteke and Zaha are the certainties and the key players.  I also expect the GK Hennessey to play.  What we do know is that one of my cheap midfield picks in Townsend is now playing wing back which makes him a major doubt as an option.

Everton

Played a Europa League qualifier last night but with Holgate, Pickford and Sandro at the Under 21 tournament none of them started.  Difficult fixtures makes everything easy to put to one side.  However the Holgate/Martina £4.5m defender  possibility is something worth knowing but unresolved after last night.  Sandro’s positive impact means that Rooneys prospect of being the CF is fairly dented.  I’m assuming Barkley is going btw.

Huddersfield

Preseason selection is still all over the place.

£6.0m midfielder Ince seems the logical target here. He’s done himself no harm with 4 goals in preseason games. New striker Mounie has also scored 3 goals.  The defence has a number of £4.5m players. Schindler is probably the safest. We’ll look for the gametime of £4.5m LB Lowe who could have some set piece or even penalty responsibilities. Apart from that it’s only seeing whether the £4.0m defs of Hudson and Cranie can make it into the sides.  Mooy has only played 15 minutes after Confed duties but he’s so key it’s hard to see him not play.

Leicester

The gametime of £4.5m defs Simpson and Chilwell are of interest.  Chilwell has not played in preseason so that looks like a dead duck.   Forward Iheanacho  still looks like he will be joining from Man City. Otherwise it’s just seeing that £5.5m mid Albrighton is the LM starter.  Gray has been rested and has yet to play after the Euro U21s and that won’t help future clarity. However Huth’s out for 6 weeks should ensure that Simpson starts the season as RB and Maguire as CB.

Liverpool

Some signs of a team lining up in preseason.  Whether £6.5m defender and penalty taker Milner starts is the main issue here with £5.0m Roberston having joined.  An injury to Milner although not significant may make it hard to judge who will win the battle for the LB spot.  £4.5m CB Klavan seems to have lost the battle to start over Lovren  Also, until Mane is fit the side will likely pick itself in the attacking areas with a front 3 of Coutinho, Firmino and Salah being the safest bet. However the latest friendly saw Origi start and Coutinho moved back.  That hasn’t previously blunted Coutinho’s returns.  Klopp has warned of rotation due to the champions League. Clyne is out with no return date and the focus on a cheap defender has now turned to £4.5m RB Trent Alexander-Arnold.  Whether he can do anything long term remains to be seen

Salah and Coutino have been the form players to date.
