Fantasy premier league team – picked just for gameweek 14 only

Here’s a fantasy premier league team solely picked for GW14,   No other fixtures taken into account, just  gameweek 14.

Fantasy premier league  team – picked just for gameweek 14 only

Its also purely theoretical and costs too much to be a real team.  The reasoning?  Just to help you pick a player if you’re a little unsure who to pick.   The chance of immediate points with someone from this team may sway you.  Please excuse the fact that I’m only doing the  briefest of comments.  Some of  the  players are covered in previous articles this week in my fantasy premier league “ones to watch” articles and defenders in my clean sheet article.  By the way I wont pick 2 strikers or 2 midfielders or 2 defenders from the same club.  Ill also pick the defender with the best chance of the bonus or attacking points irrespective of the price. So don’t be confused about me selecting someone different from the “ones to watch” articles as that takes a longer term and more value view than this.

After a terrible defensive performance away to Hull it’s another potential line in the sand for the Liverpool defence.  Norwich have only scored 3 goals away from home in 6 matches.  They had 3 blanks and not scored more than one in any away game.  With RVW, Snodgrass and Pilkington injured they’ve got 3 first choice players out.  No clean sheet here could be a real turning point against the Liverpool defence
Stoke City

In contrast to there terrible defence away the Stoke home defence hasn’t been too bad. They’ve only conceded 3 goals on their own ground and had 3 clean sheets.  Cardiff away from home have only scored 4.  Only 3 teams have scored less

A ridiculous goal in the first minute against Southampton saw another clean sheet disappear.  Sunderland have been one of the lowest scorers on their own ground only scoring 6.  The home game against Newcatle is the only time Sunderland have scored 2
West Ham

Anytime you play Crystal Palace there’s got to be a chance of a clean sheet. Palace have only scored 4 goals on their home ground and 3 were against Sunderland. West Ham have only conceded 4 goals away from home which is less than any other team.  Even with Reid out this looks like a good clean sheet chance.

2 tough away games that, despite 5 goals conceded, didnt show the defence

Despite the 8 goals conceded in 2 games against Man City and United the Spurs defence is definitely worth coverage.Remember before that spurs had got 7 clean sheets.  Walker  dominated the free kicks and set pieces and is the less rotation prone than the CBs. Fulham have only scored 6 goals at home.  One of the worst in the division.  There maybe a post Jol sacking boost is the only negative

After 4 clean sheets in the last 5 games the Arsenal defence is really showing its mettle.  Hull have only scored 5 goals away.  3 came in the win at Newcastle.

Bit of a punt from the Oscar/ Hazard debate here.  After Lampards performance at West Ham where the addition of Mikel sitting defensively gave him licence to go forward I thought he was worth including for the Sunderland game.  Also has pens.  Sunderland under Poyet have improved defensively with 2 clean sheets in his 6 games in charge.  however,  I can still see Chelsea scoring here.  Man City were unlucky not to score and did rip them apart creating chance after chance

Home to Norwich is a good time to include and attacking player.  Should get more central and forward with Sturridge injured.  Has had reasonable shooting stats and been unlucky only to get 1 goal since coming back from injury.   Norwich have conceded more goal away from home than any team including 7 at City and 4 at Arsenal

Could have gone for Ozil as well.  Hard not to include Ramsey  in current form though especially after his 2 goals at Cardiff.  Only Sunderland, Stoke and Norwich have conceded more goals away than Hull.  His ability to drift into the box means he can score against packed defences at home.  Having Ozil in your team also helps.
Stoke City

I generally default to Walters in the extremely rare cases that Stoke have goal prospects.  Only scored 1 goal and 1 assist so far this season. Generally the biggest goal threat from midfield but just has major conversion problems.  Not a transfer in I would recommend but has a good chance of picking up points against Cardiff.  They’ve  conceded 10 goals in 6 games away with 1 clean sheet only.

After 2 difficult games away to Arsenal and Chelsea, Saints are home to Villa.  Villa away have been a strong defensive unit only conceding 5 goals n 6 games.  However with Saints last home game being a 4-1 demolition of Hull, I’m backing them to be among the goals again.  Lallana will be at the heart of everything they do as well.

In brilliant form.  Overall, in 8 games he’s scored an incredible 9 goals and 4 assists.  He’s returned in 6/8 games. At home he’s returned in every game.   6 goals and 2 assists in his last 5 games.   The Norwich defence away from home has been hopeless.  4 conceded against Arsenal, 7 against Man City.   They’ve conceded more goals away than any team.  Only 1 clean sheet away to Stoke.  Only Stoke and Fulham have worse underlying defensive stats away.

He’s returned in 9/13 games this season (7 goals and 4 assists).  At  home he’s scored 4 goals and 2 assists in 6 games returning  in 4/6 games.  Current form is a little patchy only returning in 2 of his last 5.  Hull away have struggled compared to their home defence.   They’ve conceded 2 goals away in every game apart from Spurs.  Southampton hammered them 4-1 in their most recent away game and took them apart.  City and Chelsea struggled although both got 2 goals eventually.  Hulls away defensive  underlying stats are among the worst in the division,  although they have had some difficult fixtures
Man City

In great form with 10 goals and 8 assists in 12 games overall.    4 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games.  Returned in 3 of those 5 games.   WBA are no mugs at home though.  They have conceded 6 goals in 6 games with 2 clean sheets.  That’s about mid table in goals conceded.    however, underlying defensive stats have been excellent at home.    Among the best in the division.  However Arsenal have been the only difficult opposition.  Although I think its risky to give him the armband I think his form will most likely transcend the WBA defence

  1. This is my team:

Mignolet, clyne, metersacker, ivanovic, ramsey, paulinho, hazard, morrison, lukaku, suarez and aguero. i have lallana, johnson and macauley on the bench. Give me ideas who to replace from the bench, clyne for johnson? johnson has really frustrated or lallana for morrison? please

    • I would leave Clyne in so as not to put all your eggs in one basket with the liverpool defence seeing as you already have Mignolet, also good chance of a clean sheet for Saints against Villa given their scoring woes. Personally I would leave Morrison in and bring on lallana for paulinho as he has more attacking potential.

  2. My team:
    Dawson Mertesacker Clyne Shaw Reid
    Ozil Amalfitano Ramsey Whittingham Barkley
    Rooney Suarez Aguero

My score this past few weeks haven’t been great.pls can you give me ideas on who to bring in and who to sell.i need to make these changes asap.thanks great work you are doing here

  3. My team:
    Mignolet, K.Davis
    Chico, Clyne, Dawson, Ivanovic, Baker
    Hazard, Ramsey, Morrison, Barkley, P.Hernandez
    Aguero, Suarez, Giroud

    2 mil in the bank.

Tempted to bring in Collins for Baker and put him in the starting line up ahead of Chico as i’m not convinced Swans will keep a clean sheet against Newcastle. Could also transfer Chico > Collins but Swansea have Hull then Norwich in GW15/16 so i think its worth a hold. But i’m also trying to free up funds for Giroud>Rooney after this game week!

    Any advice appreciated!!

    • Baker’s cheap and fixtures better for AVL than WHU. Giroud + 2m should get you Rooney. Maybe save the FT – hopefully, cheap productive midfielders will reassert themselves.

      • My concern with Baker is that he was dropped for the last game week. West Ham have Palace and Sunderland in the next two game weeks so thats 2 potential clean sheets? Mind you I am leaning towards saving my FT for next week.

        • That’s a very good question. I don’t want to speculate on Baker v. Luna. Hopefully, folks on this site will have forgiven me for opining on RvP’s status.

  4. Mignolet
    Terry Dawson Mertesacker Fonte
    Lallana Ramsey Hazard
    Rooney Suarez(c) Lukaku

Subs: Pantillimon Ravel Morrison Amalfitano Distin

Should i put Morrison in? iF so which defender should i remove? Or is it fine the way it is

  5. Who to captain?

    Rooney, Suarez or Aguero.

    Also here is my team:

    Bench: Townsend, Barkley, Dawson

  6. Quick, i read team rumours that Ozil is expected to be rested against Hull tomorrow for Walcott. If that is the case who would be a worthy midfielder to replace him with that cost < R7mill?

I was going to keep the FT this wk then swap out Ozil after Hull to bring Rooney in, but if Ozil gona be benched i might as well transfer him out now and then just transfer Rooney in as planned for GW15.

Any suggestions? i've been thinking between Paulinho, ramires, cabaye, R.Morrison or miralles
