Here’s my fantasy premier league team selection GW20 article. As is normal, I review GW19, share my transfer thoughts, captain choice and the lineup dilemmas.

Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 3 seasons overall ranks are 36k, 17k and 21k.

I hope you had a nice Christmas has been going well if you’re celebrating it

GW19 review

Here’s the points and the basic stats:

GW19 points: 76 (FPL average 49) Total points 1,095, Gameweek rank 214k, Overall Rank: 131k, green arrow 143k, Team Value: £103.3m

So another good gameweek with a 143k green arrow to 1,095 points and 131k overall rank.

So you may recognise from earlier articles that when things are going well that I’m not a person who celebrates.  I’m bracing myself for my good fortune to reverse itself.  Very glass half full I know.

6 returners after 7 returners the 2 last weeks.  This can’t go on.  However I’m not complaining just trying to recognise that what goes up must also come down.

Transfer thoughts

2 transfers and 0.00 in the bank.

To be honest in some ways I wish I didn’t have 2 transfers as I feel compelled to use at least 1.  I have gone most of yesterday thinking I wouldn’t use a transfer at all for the first time ever.

I did think I would transfer out Jimenez as away to Liverpool is the ideal entry point.  However the game yesterday and the 3 fixtures after that have reversed that.  I possibly would have done a straight switch Mane to Salah but I don’t have the £0.1m in the bank I need to do it.

Abraham under the microscope

I like Abraham alot but obviously the home form has been pretty dire.  They now have 2 away games against Arsenal and Brighton so there is a case to be patient.

Alli looks like he could be injured for the Norwich game but it’s not the fixture to take anyone out for especially as Jose doesn’t seem to even know if he is injured?

However it’s hard to just sit there and use no transfers.  The only thing is once I use 1 then I will use 2 I can see it.

So in the end I decided to take Abraham out for Maupay in.  He was a sub v Spurs, has really good xG and shooting volumes, has pens and now plays Bournemouth and has a decent run of fixtures.

So what do I do with all this money?

That leaves me with a lump of cash.  Kelly is the obvious target here.  My choices are Digne of Everton, Gomez for a short punt of Liverpool or Aurier of Spurs.

None are ideal.  I worry that Aurier won’t play this week given he started v Brighton and Spurs have alternatives.  Plus how good really is their defence.

Gomez would be short term as Liverpools fixtures get tricky and Matip or Lovren will be back at some point, which isn’t ideal.  Plus theirs no attacking potential. I would gamble on Robertson but I don’t have enough cash.

I’m not totally convinced about the Everton defence and Digne could also be rested vs Newcastle and then he has Man City.  I did think about Mendy or Otamendi but last night wasn’t the ideal lead up point for a transfer in.

The alternative would be just to leave it but I can’t help but think an upgrade on Kelly is worth it

So in the end it was Abraham out for Maupay and Gomez in for Kelly.  £1.2m in the bank

Captain

This is all about gametime really.  In an everyone starts world I would go for Vardy but given Rodgers words that he won’t play 4 games this seems a better resting point than vs Newcastle in GW21.  I’m not that afraid of him being rested it’s the late 1 point cameo that worries me.  So I’ve decided to avoid him.

Mane isn’t safe either and neither is De Bruyne but again I’ve gone for the double up and hoped that at least 1 starts.

So in the end Mane captain with De Bruyne as vice

The lineup

The only choice to make was Cantwell vs Rico for first sub.  In the end I went with Rico as although I can see Brighton scoring Rico has good attacking potential.  After yesterday I can’t leave Jimenez on the bench. I know that doesn’t work with the double Liverpool defence but whatever it’s a part  hedge if you like
