Here’s my fantasy premier league team selection GW34 article where I just give a quick update on what’s happening or not with the FFGeek team as the FPL site in it’s infinite wisdom keeps the gameweeks rolling.
fantasy premier league team selection GW34 – the FFGeek team for “GW34”
If you’re not familiar with the site my previous 3 seasons overall ranks are 36k, 17k and 21k
I outline my FPL strategy along with 10 other FFGeek contributors in our new EBook.
Despite the news that the Premier League will not resume in May with no return date set amid corona virus pandemic the fantasy premier league site remains open and accepts transfers. For that reason I’m still going to give updates on the FFGeek team and any plans I may have.
You’ll find Andrew Whitfields gradual wildcard article very helpful to give an overall picture of the current FPL situation
Here’s my current position:
Total points: 1693 overall rank: 31k. team value: £103.2m transfers available: 2
2nd wildcard, bench boost and free hit still available
Here’s how the team looks prior to any transfers this week:
My FPL team structure
Again apologies to regular readers for the definition preamble.
If it’s the first time you’ve seen it here’s how I classify each player in my FPL team:
Template player: 7 of the 10 top FPL managers I follow have him in their team. I use the 10 managers as a proxy for serious FPL managers who will finish in the top 100k or so. People have different interpretations of what is an FPL template. There’s no true definition though.
Template replacement player: the player you choose to go head to head against a template player with.
Bench player: A player who will for the most part be on your bench. Sometimes there are bench rotaters but I won’t muddy the waters
Difference maker: these are the rest and the players who can move you forward or back. I don’t call them differentials as this implies an ownership threshold which I don’t use
Here’s my squad using these categories:
Player | Category |
McCarthy | Template replacement for Pope |
Button | Bench |
Alex Arnold | Template |
Soyuncu | Difference Maker |
Boly | Template (although Doherty preferred option) |
Holgate | Bench |
Basham | Bench |
Salah | Template |
De Bruyne | Template |
Mahrez | Template replacement for Fernandes |
Cantwell | Bench |
H Barnes | Difference maker |
Firmino | Difference maker |
Calvert Lewin | Template |
Vardy | Template replace for Jimenez |
Plans for GW34
Remember the Gameweek 34 deadline is Saturday 18 Apr 11:30 UK time
Here’s the transfers I’m going to do:
Vardy OUT to Jimenez IN
Mahrez OUT to Bruno Fernandes IN
Both transfers are template players . Jimenez also has good fixtures for the rest of the season and is a reliable minutes player. His underlying stats have been consistently good as you will see from my last rankings article.
Fernandes I have my doubts about as you will see from my focus article on him. His underlying stats when you strip out the penalty are poor but he does have good fixtures, set piece responsibility and penalties unless Pogba takes them back. As a template player and considering Mahrez has some gametime challenges I’ve gone for him.
Here’s how the team looks now the transfers are complete:
I’d say the usual good luck but that would obviously be ridiculous!
