Introduction

Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 4 seasons overall ranks are 17k, 36k, 17k and 21k.

GW35 review

GW35 points 129 (FPL average 83) Total points 2,326, Overall Rank: 11k, green arrow 5k.  Team Value: £103.6m

I’ve now used all my chips

Here’s the points:

So I came out of that gameweek far better than I expected. 129 points for a 5k green arrow to 11k. To be honest a small red arrow and staying under 20k would have been a massive result before the gameweek.

Unfortunately things don’t get any easier and blank GW36 looks even more problematic

However a few words on the GW35 gone first. Greenwood was the unexpected success. In my GW35 midfield player rankings he was the only Man Utd midfielder apart from Fernandes obviously to make the cut whereas Rashford and Pogba didn’t. The rankings have served me well for my weekly transfer picks.

Benching Holding over Lingard caused me great pain and was a stupid decision in retrospect.

The players who could have hurt me were Shaw, Son and Watkins and to a slightly lesser extent Calvert Lewin. I escaped reasonably well from pain from them.

Transfer thoughts

1 free transfer and £0.5m in the bank

Firstly blank GW36 problems

I have Rudiger, Greenwood, Fernandes, Holding and Iheanacho who don’t have a game and Veltman who looks like he will be injured. That’s 6 players with 3 bench positions

Added to that Holgate could easily be dropped even though he played the last game and Vydra could give way to Barnes although Barnes only played 4 minutes as a sub last week.

If everything goes against me then it could be quite nasty.

Who do I want?

My priority this week has been Calvert-Lewin in against what is not only his old club Sheffield Utd but his hometown. The premier leagues difference between the haves and the have nots seems to throw up these teams that can’t seem to compete at any level which means that you get drawn into following them around and making transfers of players who are up against them next. It’s not really how I want FPL to be but it is what it is unfortunately.

Unfortunately GW38 v Man City isn’t helpful although hopefully he plays a reserve team. GW37 v Wolves could definitely be worse.

The 2nd priority has been Antonio for Vydra in GW37. I’m a huge fan and his underlyings stats are absolutely fantastic. WBA and Southampton are a great pair of fixtures too.

How do I get them?

Of the players with no fixtures in GW36 there are only 2 options. Fernandes or Greenwood.

I’ve never been a fan of taking a player out before a good fixture and although neither have a fixture in GW36, GW37 v Fulham isn’t the greatest exit point.

Now Fernandes could easily be in the mix for the captaincy favourite so that’s just too risky for me to get rid of him even if he could be rested in GW38 before the Wednesday after Europa League final so Greenwood it is.

Having enough money to do Iheanacho to Calvert-Lewin and the Vydra to Antonio isn’t easy and leaves me with £4.4m. There’s not surprisingly much choice at that price. Smith Rowe is easily the best option but he doesn’t have a fixture. I have though about putting him in and just taking the loss of points but given the context of my team it’s seems a little bold.

Unfortunately that leaves me with 3 options and none are great. Bissouma, Anguissa and Reidewald. The last 2 seem in and out of the side so I’ve ruled them out. Bissouma seems fairly safe but he’s the classic card magnet CDM. With Lingard running at him on the counter it just looks like a yellow card waiting to happen.

Burke and Tella offered more attacking option at cheaper prices but Burke is out for the season injured and Tella was always going to lose his place when Ings returned and that’s exactly what happened in GW35.

So given the above it’s Calvert-Lewin and Bissouma IN for Iheanacho and Greenwood OUT

It leaves no spare funds for price movment to go Vydra to Antonio for GW37 next. Luckily it seems Antonio won’t go up in price tonight and Vydra won’t go down but I may end up transferring in Antonio as early as Saturday if things change.

Captain Choice

Salah is the clear leader in the polls and I’ll be going with him. There’s definitely 4 players into 3 places it seems for the Liverpool attack but hopefully Salah won’t be the player rotated

Kane will be vice

Lineup issues

Obviously not a problem this week. Potentially there is a GK issue between Forster v Fulham (if he starts) and Martinez v Palace but I can’t face the risk of a Martinez 11 pointer against me so I’m sticking with him
