Introduction

This is part 4 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

GW11 Review

I started the GW with a bit of apprehension. Aston Villa’s inviting home tie against Newcastle had been postponed due to Covid. This left me without a playing goalkeeper and having to bench an in-form Jack Grealish.

But as the GW unfolded, it turned out to be another good one.

Captain Kevin led the way with 28 points.

My front three who blanked last Game week redeemed themselves this GW which shows that patience is a virtue. DCL (8) and Bamford (6) scored a goal apiece whilst Kane (12) outdid them by returning a goal and an assist. Bruno (6) assisted and the near namesakes of Dier (6) and Dias (6) kept a clean sheet.

All in all, 78 points and a seventh green arrow out of 8.

Transfers

Rodriguez and Kane out for Salah and Watkins.

Rodriguez started the season well but he has not returned in the last 6 GWs. So, it’s time to say Adios. It’s tough having to get rid of Kane in red hot form but I need to raise the money to get Salah in. The captaincy rotation of Mo and KDB will keep me going until I play my WC. Watkins has decent fixtures until GW15 and hopefully he will be luckier with VAR decisions in the following games.

Captaincy

It has to be Salah for me with a plum fixture against Fulham

Future Plans

I am happy with my team going forwards until GW15 and I will use my transfers for firefighting.

In GW16 I plan to use my WC to bring back Kane and Son for their home match against Fulham and to attack the DGW19.

A very rough tentative plan is to use the Free Hit chip in GW18 for the reduced fixture list. Then I will play my Bench Boost to take advantage of the extra fixtures in DGW19. But these things will unfold in their own way and I will adapt my plans accordingly.

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW11 points: 88 (FPL average 62), Total points: 715, Overall Rank: 52k,  green arrow: 70k,  Team Value: £103.5m

Despite making the wrong call on going without a keeper, I won’t be complaining about GW11. An amazing week that’s seen me end up with a 5-figure rank. All the premiums are doing the business at the moment and the majority of my decisions are paying off. Of course, the higher you climb the further there is to fall and gains will be hard from this point so I’m expecting some reds going forward.

As mentioned, bringing in McCarthy last week instead of rolling my FT didn’t pay off and will ultimately cost me 2 points once I take a hit to get Salah. It’s frustrating as my team looks really good and all my key players are delivering points – I just don’t feel I can go without him despite playing a full match midweek. Comfortably owned by over a third of managers and playing against Fulham, he’ll still be a captain favourite so 4 points is a bargain price to protect against the damage he could potentially do to my rank.

The hit isn’t the problem. When I used my FT last week to bring in an additional playing keeper, I knew I’d have to drop points to bring Salah in. I’m mentally prepared for that. My issue is who to lose to make it happen. I’m toying with three possibilities…

The options

The original plan was Kane to Watkins and Son to Salah. Having got rid of Steer last week to free up a spot, bringing in the Villa forward sets me up for the two double gameweeks they have on the horizon. I’d even be left with cash in the bank to finally upgrade Mitchell at a later date. The issue is, of course, neither Son nor Kane have done anything to warrant removal and their ownerships are massive. I’d really like to keep one of them.

My second option is to drop Calvert-Lewin for Brewster to free up the funds for Son to Salah. Again, neither of them deserve to be removed from the team and they both have huge ownerships, but the Everton fixtures become notably tougher now and it might be time to cash in. This route allows me to keep Kane, but I’d still be dropping two in-form and very highly owned assets as well as losing my bench flexibility.

Lastly, a more ballsy move… I currently have the option of dropping Kane to Brewster, Chilwell to Lewis, and then upgrading Bissouma to Salah. It costs me 8 points rather than 4, and means I lose Chilwell in addition to Kane but that would give me an amazing midfield of Son, Salah, Bruno, Grealish and De Bruyne – and I’d still have Bamford and Calvert-Lewin up front.

In short, option 1 gives me the best team balance but exposes me to multiple highly owned Spurs assets. Option 2 lets me keep the Spurs penalty taker but sacrifices the highest-owned player in the game and introduces more bench fodder. While option 3 gives me the perfect attacking force but costs me more points and weakens both my defence and bench.

Summary

As is evident from the ramblings above, I’m still undecided as to which route I’m going to take and I’ll probably make a call as late as possible in case there’s any news that makes the decision easier.

Option 2 ( Calvert Lewin out to Brewster in and Son out to Salah in)  is where I’m leaning at the moment, so below is the team with those changes made, but it’s far from certain. Captain would be Salah. Kane vice.

Costas Chari

Costas’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 17k, 84k, 29k and 27k

I was sitting on a 400k green arrow only for Spurs duo Salah Zaha etc to go crazy…. Anyway 70k green still not bad.

I was going to get a hit to get Richarlison Werner Soucek out and Son Bamford and Wilson in but I just did the Richarlison to Bamford move.

Werner has a good fixture and i will keep the faith for another week. He should have score tons of goals so far i hope he explodes this week. Wilson I don’t know how Newcastle will show up with all the first team players missing and the lack of training etc. I was going to do the move to get Son in as he is highly owned but a believe a hit is not worth it.

So Werner stays and he is the captain! I have 3 players from the Manchester Derby so I am already quite exposed there.. and I don’t trust Grealish or Bamford with the armband so differential captain it is!

I have already ordered a huge sofa so i can hide behind during the Liverpool game 😂😂 thing is I could do a Sterling to Salah but sterling has WBA next week and Salah played 90min in the UCL and has spurs on Wednesday so I think his minutes will be managed.

Good look peeps

Rob Cosgrove

Rob’s last 5 seasons overall rank were 148k, 94k, 22k, 4k and 7k

GW11 points: 65 (FPL average 62), Total points: 570, Overall Rank: 3,211k,  red arrow 87k,  Team Value: £101.7m

What a strange game week ! Like so many managers I was flying on Saturday only to be brought back down to Earth on Sunday with no returners except a Mane assist. Mane just can’t buy a goal at the moment it is so frustrating to own him. I changed my keeper to Johnstone instead of McCarthy last minute as he has been performing well of late, then he concedes 5! I guess you can’t plan for a red card so feel a bit hard done by with that one.

I was contemplating a sideways transfer of Mane to Salah who looks on fire at the moment but an early price rise has priced me out by 0.1 which is annoying. So the plan this week is to roll the transfer and pray Mane finally comes to life!

I am going to keep faith in Johnstone in goal 1 more week as I think the clean sheet potential is greater than Martinez away at Wolves.

Captain is Mane who is a great differential option playing away at Fulham; if there’s a game I expect him to explode in it would be this one.
