GW15 review
As I was activating my Wildcard this GW, I thought I would go out with a bang with a mega defence. Chelsea had only conceded one league on the road all season, so I tripled up on their defence for the matches away to Watford and West Ham. Unfortunately, they conceded in both matches. My transfer for GW 15 was to get Reguilon in. Spurs had tightened up at the back since Conte’s arrival and had a plum home fixture to Norwich. They successfully kept a clean sheet but Reggie was subbed off after just 21 minutes having already being booked.
James (0), Alonso (1), Rudiger (1) and Reguilon (0) returned a sum total of 2 points.
Yet somehow, I managed to get a third consecutive green arrow with the remaining 7 players.
Wilson (9) was my only player to score this week. Foden (7), Raphinha (5) and Captain Mo (12) all got assists. Trent (9) secured a clean sheet.
GW16 Plans
I have finally activated my first Wildcard!!
It is Wednesday morning as I write this. So far, I have been chasing price rises. My team value is quite low at £103.1m
The downside of playing the WC so late is I have missed so many price rises. For example, Cancelo started the season at 6m and has risen to an eye watering price of 6.8m. Likewise, James has risen 0.7m, Rudiger 0.6m, Ramsdale 0.5m, ESR 0.6, Gallagher 0.6m and Dennis by 0.7m.
This severely restricts who I can get in. The stubborn side of me makes me want to ignore all of these players but unfortunately the likes of Cancelo and James are just too dangerous to avoid.
The big headache in the future is AFCON. I want to transfer out as few players as possible due to their involvement. As present, just Salah out of my players will go.
As an FPL manager, I like to have players with the best fixtures possible to maximise their returns. Team with the best fixtures in my view are Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, West Ham, Aston Villa and in the short-term Watford. These are the teams I am targeting.
Man Utd’s fixtures
Man City’s fixtures
Liverpool’s fixtures
West Ham’s fixtures
Aston Villa’s fixtures
Watford’s short-term fixtures
Goalkeepers
Man Utd have superb fixtures until GW 27.
I think the new manager will tighten things up at the back, so De Gea will be a good set and forget keeper. Ideally, I would like a backup keeper but I need to spend the money elsewhere.
Defenders
Trent Alexander Arnold doesn’t really require any explanation.
In an ideal world I would like to go without Cancelo due to his price but he is City’s best asset and probably their most nailed one too. City’s fixtures look really good as well. Next, we have a Chelsea defender. It will ideally be Reece James but I may downgrade to Rudiger if I need the funds. For me, their ownership is so high so I need to have one until Mendy leaves for AFCON and their fixtures fall off a cliff.
I would like a pair of good but cheap defenders. Since Ramsdale starting playing goal for Arsenal they have secured clean sheets in half of their matches. White is great value at 4.4m.
There has been a big improvement In Spurs’ defence since Conte took charge. I would like to get a Spurs defender in too. The North London rivals rotate well together. In the next 13 GWs, the rotation allow them to play opponents with a Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR) of 2 ten times and a FDR of 3 three times.
At present, there is strong speculation about a possible postponement against Brighton and Spurs won’t play their EL match v Rennes. I will follow the developments over the next few days. But with one postponement already, it may be a shrewd move to have a Spurs player who I can bench and be in place for the coming DGWs.
At present I have Dier in my draft.
Midfield
Hopefully Salah needs no explanation. Jota is under-priced for an attacker in the League’s most attacking team. West Ham have great fixtures and Bowen is in great form at the moment.
Since Gerrard took the helm, Villa have won 3 out of 4 matches, only losing to Man City. After their trip to Anfield, they have a strong run of fixtures coming up. I like the look of McGinn. He is nailed on and I think he will improve under the new manager’s reign. My fifth midfielder will be a cheap enabler, Gilmour at the moment.
Forwards
There isn’t a huge selection up top. Ronaldo won’t get to play every match over the festive period, but I am sure he will haul against some of the weaker teams in the league. Despite Antonio’s poor recent form, I am persuaded by their fixtures to double up on West Ham attacking assets. Finally, Watford have strong short-term fixtures. I have been deliberating between King and Dennis. Kev has persuaded me to get King. He is on penalties, he doesn’t go to the AFCON and his stats are a bit better.
No doubt I will change some of the players, but here is the core of my team. I have 0.4m in the bank

Here’s the current draft
Chris Tucker
Chris’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 249k, 41k, 17k and 1k
GW15 Points: 39 (FPL average 43) Total points: 989, Overall Rank: 47k, red arrow: 19k Team Value: £104.5m

I really want to bring in the in-form Bernardo for Raphinha, whose next four fixtures are about as bad as you can get.
But I am being held back by a red flag for Toney and an injury concern in Smith-Rowe. If the Arsenal man doesn’t make the Southampton game, I am worried about not being able to field a full team in the event of rotation.
The trouble is I don’t really like any replacements for Toney with the budget I have. Wilson drew my attention but he has a tricky fixture run coming up. I’m reluctant to bring back Antonio having sold him last week.
I keep coming back to the fact the City attack is firing and I want a piece of the action, so I’ll probably just be brave and face the risk of rotation by getting Bernardo for Raphinha. Let’s see what Arteta has to say about Smith-Rowe first, though.
Captain will be Salah.
Best of luck to you all
transfer summary: likely Bernardo Silva in for Raphinha out
Here’s the team prior to any transfers being made

GW15 review
First of all, apologies I didn’t manage a write-up for GW14/15 – I was very tight for time with work commitments between the end of the midweek games so could only manage to send Geek a screenshot of my team. Sadly though, GW14 and 15 have proved weeks to forget with GW ranks of 5.6 million and 5.4 million respectively. Absolutely disastrous, with my rank doubling over this short time!
The tale of woe this gameweek started with Chelsea’s clean sheet getting wiped out and finished with a no show from both Smith-Rowe and the Arsenal defence. The only crumb of comfort was that Toney’s Sunday no-show brought me a return off the bench, 5 points from Antonio to add to my other 2 rank neutral returns from Alexander-Arnold and Perma-Captain Salah. Otherwise it was blanks all round – how did Jota miss and as for Harry Kane, well the less said the better.
It’s certainly been a frustrating downward turn of events since I was ranked at 91k at the end of GW12 and I lay much of the blame for this at a poor decision on bringing in Harry Kane. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but tying up all those funds in a player with no form who I’m not going to Captain was a really bad call, even if the fixtures were superb. The knock-on effects of this could be significant too as I’ve now been priced out of some other assets by leaving my funds tied where they were, I guess it’s a cross I’ll just have to bear.
Onto what looks like it’s going to be a tumultuous GW16 then. At least I’ve got 2 free transfers!
GW16 Team
2 free transfers, nothing in the bank.
Three big stories this week. First up there’s a big positive fixture swing for Man United. With a new manager safely installed, they are back on the transfer radar again. Second, there’s a big Covid outbreak at Spurs which means that their GW16 fixture versus Brighton is in doubt. Selling Kane was a high priority this week and the one positive of having him in the team was that it does mean I’ve an easy route across to the most attractive United attacking asset – Christiano Ronaldo. The problem with this is that I’m back there again with tying up a lot of funds in one place on a player I probably won’t Captain, but at least Ronaldo has some form so I’m fairly confident this won’t be a Kane mark 2 situation.
Big story number 3 may also be a temporary way out of the lack of funds issue too. This is the bringing forward of the Africa Cup of Nations by 6 days to start on January 3rd. It therefore means that we could see players such as Salah heading off as early as GW20 which starts on the 28th December. Departure dates are of course tbc as are squad lists, but if it looks like players are going to miss 4 or 5 GWs then I won’t be holding them in my squad over that period, which in Salah’s case does temporarily free up some funds (though of course we will likely want a plan to buy him back again.)
Back to this week though and I’ve several issues in my team. With the Spurs game in doubt and Kane in terrible form, he’s a definite transfer out. I also have Toney out with Covid and likely to miss another 2 games at least so he’s going too. Duffy is suspended this week and if the Spurs game is off, his suspension will roll into GW17 so he’s red-flagged and I’m waiting on news of Smith-Rowe who missed the Everton game with a knock. I’m not too worried about moving on these last 2 issues though.
Kane and Toney are the priority transfers out then and it’s a straightforward decision to move them to Ronaldo and one of King or Dennis. I’ve gone for King for the latter move. Dennis has the better set of returns through the season, but King ticks more boxes stats wise and is likely on pens. Added to this, Dennis may also be picked for AFCON though there does seem to be some doubt on whether he will make the Nigeria squad.
I’ve taken a risk and made these move early which leaves me £0.7m in the bank. This just gives me enough to move Gallagher for Bowen for a hit as well, a move that is tempting me. I worry that if I don’t make the move this week, I’ll get priced out of it for a few weeks and I’d really like the West Ham double up for GW16-22 looking at their fixtures and from. I’m also conscious that Gallagher’s position has moved deeper in recent weeks so I think this might be a good time to sell. I’ll be keeping an eye on the price changes here but I’ve got to tally this against team news as we head into the weekend. We’ll see.
As for my team, at the moment Gallagher sits in the sub 1 spot, with Gilmour in the 2nd spot. If I bring Bowen in though, I’ll probably move Smith-Rowe to the bench in line with what Joe’s planner suggests for projected scores. Captain is Salah. Looking further forward, I’ll try and roll my GW17 transfer then see where I am injury-wise as we head into the festive period for my GW18 moves.
Good luck for this week folks and I’ll post my team on Twitter pre-deadline as usual, probably sometime around 4pm on Friday afternoon.
Transfer summary: King and Ronaldo in for Toney and Kane.
I might do a -4 as well which would be Gallagher to Bowen,
