Introduction

This is part 4 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

Hi all , so after MCI-AVL and MUN-BUR announced to take place in 19 and 18 respectively, tried to look if I can change the original plan of FH18 and TC19, so I have only 5 available players for 18 , and I will still FH (just a better team with United playing)

So here is the plan:

McCarthy for Steer in 17
FH in 18
Cancelo and Antonio/ Watkins for Lamptey and Calvert Lewin for a small hit of minus 4, I will eventually BB with 15 DGW players, I know no De Bruyne in the team , but I can’t see why it worth the hit to take out Mane for KDB,

If his form will be sensational I will do it for the same hit (-4) , leave Calvert Lewin and get Stones instead of Cancelo, to have 14 DGW players.

Transfer summary:  likely McCarthy for Steer

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW16 points: 57  (FPL average 37), Total points: 1,015, Overall Rank: 22k,  green arrow:  12k,  Team Value: £104.8m

Ever since the season started we’ve talked about cancelled games, positive tests and rotation making triple ups a risk and playing benches essential. We’ve mentioned it less recently as the precautions taken by teams have been largely effective and blanks, doubles, chips and planned transfers have dominated our thoughts. Should have known better…

The fact we were hit by heavy rotation and 2 cancelled matches in the final gameweek of the year is so typically 2020 I can’t believe we didn’t see it coming. Bad news was followed by worse news and almost everyone found themselves in damage limitation mode.

I was saved by my defence as 31 of my 57 points came from my back line. Returns from Bruno and Bamford helped further and even the 3 points off my bench were gratefully received in a week many couldn’t field a full 11.

Schedule change

The news that BGW18 and DGW19 both have an extra match doesn’t change much for me. I’m still planning to Free Hit then Bench Boost. In theory I could use my next two FTs to field 9 players in the blank, but that would have to include the likes of Bissouma and a potentially still injured Taylor. On top of that, any rotation or cancellations would leave me fielding even fewer players. Surely we have to learn something from the GW16 trash fire…

Some good news

The extra match in GW19 means I now get 2 games out of Grealish and have both keepers playing twice without requiring a transfer. That’s certainly a good thing as the spare FT will probably now be needed to switch out Taylor. If all goes to plan (that’s a big ‘if’) I’ll have 13 doublers and just Kane and Son playing once when I Bench Boost. I can’t imagine it gets much better than that without using a wildcard or hits to prepare.

Transfer

I have the choice of going with my planned move of Bissouma to Soueck or addressing the Taylor issue. I don’t really want to waste the transfer I just gained with a sideways move to Lowton but, assuming the match goes ahead, it might be the most sensible thing to do.

I’ll wait until the last minute in case there’s positive news about Taylor or negative news about the match, but Lowton will probably be my transfer in.

Captain

Close call between Son, Bruno and Salah this week. At the moment I’m on Bruno cap and Salah vice but that’s far from definite.

Andrew Pratt

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 313k last 8k in 18/19 and 1k in 17/18

GW16 points: 56 -4  (FPL average 37) Total points: 994, Overall Rank: 62k, green arrow: 13k Team Value: £103.4m

Going into gameweek 16 I took a 4 point hit (my 6th this season) to take out Grealish, Calvert-Lewin and de Bruyne for Fernandes, Raphinha and Kane. I ended up fielding only 9 players because the City and Spurs games were postponed but managed a gameweek rank of 508k and a green arrow with the help of my triple Leeds attackers (which is pretty much their whole team). I count myself fortunate as there were countless horror stories this week. I’ve now had 7 consecutive green arrows and in this time I have dropped down the FFGeek Contributors mini-league, which signals that ours is a highly competent and competitive mini-league.

Going into gameweek 17 and the FPL landscape keeps changing! As of writing, the MCI vs AVL game has moved into DGW19 and BUR vs MUN has moved into BGW18. This means Man City assets are far more attractive as they have a game in BGW18 and two in GW19. Additionally, these games are relatively easy, as are their GW20 to GW22 fixtures. The BUR vs MUN game moving into BGW18 makes the blank gameweek less sparse and this may encourage many to not free hit in gameweek 18.

Here’s my BG-DGW plan:

GW17: Holding pattern with no transfers made knowing I’ll very unlikely free hit in GW18. If I was not planning to save the free hit in GW18 I’d use my one free transfer now to prepare for GW19 since saved transfers going into a free hit week are useless.

GW18: I’ll use my two free transfers to take out Salah for de Bruyne and Welbeck for the likes of Wood (who plays in GW18 but has a tough double in GW19) or Adams (no GW18 fixture but has a double in GW19 including leaky Leeds). Captain options are de Bruyne, Fernandes and Kane.

GW19: I should be left with just enough funds to upgrade Steer to McCarthy. De Bruyne appears to be dropping in price shortly so this should help the financial situation but if I can’t afford McCarthy I’ll go to Johnstone. Either GK would give me 13 doublers and only Son and Kane with single gameweeks to bench boost in GW19. If there are late injury issues or postponed games, I’ll hold the bench boost chip and still benefit from a team with many doublers. In this event a Triple Captain on de Bruyne might be deployed.

This strategy assumes no major injuries and no further Covid complications so the plan may yet change. I’m open to taking one more hit going into GW19 to make best use of the bench boost. The plan allows me to move into gameweek 20 with a solid team – albeit one with a need to somehow find a way to get Salah back. In a way it would be good to be rid of the bench boost chip and not be forced to carry bench players after my second wildcard in about GW26, although given likely continued Covid disruptions one may actually benefit from a reasonably healthy bench. Going with this plan I’d be gambling that:

– the free hit chip will be more useful later (I’m thinking in the big blank in GW29),

– DGW19 is preferred for using the bench boost (I should be ready for it in GW19 without too much team disturbance and 13 doublers and two strong single gameweek players is reasonable), and

– de Bruyne will outscore Salah over the short term. Both have looked a little off-colour recently so it could go either way but I’m backing City to start scoring more.

This week captain is between Salah and Kane.

Good luck and stay safe

Robert Cosgrove

Rob’s last 4 seasons overall rank were 64k, 45k, 40k and 23k

GW16 points: 56 -4  (FPL average 37) Total points: 855, Overall Rank: 2,061k, green arrow: 292k Team Value: £102.5m

I took a 4 point hit to take out Brewster & Charlie Taylor for Antonio & Dallas! The new rearranged games threw my plans out the window because I was going to bring these guys in on GW19 but I brought these transfers forward. I can no longer afford Vardy or Roberson because I will be keeping KDB for his new DGW 19 fixtures. This then leaves 2 final players to swap in GW19 of DCL & Holding who will become Watkins/Adams/someone else? & Dias (maybe) – that can all wait a couple weeks!!

Still using free hit in GW18 as planned.

Captain will be Salah because he plays last in my team
