Fantasy premier league team tips GW17 – FFGeek contributor’s teams part 2

This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

See the part 1 contributors teams article here as well

Yaniv Salomon

Yaniv finished with an overall rank of 4k last season and 8k in 17/18

GW16 points: 65 (FPL average 54) Total points 939 Gameweek rank 1,840k, Overall Rank: 100k, green arrow 6k, Team Value: £105.7m

Saving a free transfer, as I am leaning to use my wc in GW20 and not GW18, maybe a mini WC in GW18 with 3 transfers for -4 points

transfer summary:  Carrying over a free transfer

Kris O

Kris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 44k, 46k and 23k

GW16 points: 44 (FPL average 54) Total points 945 Gameweek rank 5,409k, Overall Rank: 77k, red arrow 49k, Team Value: £105.7m

Gw16

Terrible week for me, caused by not owning a Sp*rs asset and my own stupid decision to captain Zaha. Deservedly so I’ve lost top spot in the contributors league.

Gw17

Planned transfers (four point hit) are Tomori to Kelly, giving enough funds for Dendoncker back to Martial. Can’t see any immediate price changes so planning to wait for press conferences on Friday.

Captain Vardy – not making the same mistake again!

Transfer summary to be confirmed: Tomori out to Kelly in and  Dendoncker out to Martial in.

Andrew Whitfield

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 6k last season and 19k in 17/18

GW16 points: 53 (FPL average 54) Total points 922 Gameweek rank 4,032k, Overall Rank: 192k, red arrow 62k, Team Value: £103.7m

Well what a roller coaster of a gameweek that was !! On Saturday night, I was sat on just 12 points from 6 players, with Mo Salah and the Spurs trio of Kane, Son and Alli running riot. I was staring down the barrel and it wasn’t a great place to be. In the end, Leicester City came riding to the rescue, like a knight in shining armour on Sunday and at least I finished on a “respectable” 53 points !!

Not enough though to prevent a disappointing 62k red arrow, down from 130k to 192k. Just three returning players is always going to have you struggling. Almost half of my points came from one player, my captain Vardy !! Maddison and Robertson were my only other returners. Eight blanks certainly makes for an uncomfortable weekend.

Just when many of us are moving towards two or even just one “premium” asset and towards a more “balanced” distribution of funds, and away from spending big on strikers, up pop Kane, Aubamayang and Rashford. So my week started with Kane and Salah delivering the early punches, and then Aubameyang landed the knockout blow. It acts as a warning to us all that going without old FPL favourites Kane and Salah will certainly hurt you sometimes.

How did my players do ?

– My Leicester triple up brought in 37 points, but boy, it could have been a helluva lot more !! Two goals from Vardy could easily have been three. Two assists from Maddison could easily have been three. Vardy set another big chance up for Maddison who fired wide. And how Soyuncu failed to convert a Maddison free kick, heading against the keeper from a few yards out, I still don’t know. Those 37 Leicester points could very easily have been a mind boggling 63 points if I did my maths right !!!! If only !! I am very happy to be on this Foxes triple up !! The decision to invest that bit more for Maddison over Tielemans was well founded. I love Leicester right now !!

– How ironic that Liverpool finally keep a clean sheet and Trent starts on the bench and missed the clean sheet by playing 50 mins instead of 60. So the double Liverpool clean sheet still evades me !! They then went and kept another one in Salzburg for good measure !! But another return for Robertson. My double up of the two full backs might get one more game. The GW18 Liverpool blank week then looms large. We can all see where this is heading when I finally jump off the double.

– The Chelsea attacking double up didn’t match their Leicester counterparts, which was all the more frustrating watching Son and Alli cutting loose. However, I watched the Chelsea game, with both Mount and Abraham looking a threat and very much passing the eye test. I am looking forward to them lining up against Bournemouth this week. It’s pay back time for Tammy and Mason right, with Kane and those Spurs boys blanking at Wolves !!

– The eight “blanks” included De Bruyne, with a lot of people looking to offload him, perhaps wounded by those Son and Alli returns, but I am definitely not prepared to go “City-less” !! De Bruyne is a class act and I wouldn’t swap him right now. If anything, I would go the other way and double up with D Silva. Don’t lose sight of the fact that Man City are the leagues top scorers on 44 goals ( Spurs have “only” 30 ). Do you really want to abandon ship completely from City to join the Spurs train. That’s a lot of Man City goals to watch from behind a very big sofa. De Bruyne stays.

– Pope has had a couple of hammerings but nobody expected clean sheets against Man City and Spurs did they. Remember he had back to back “nine pointers “ before that !! There are only 12 points separating the top 11 keepers. Not really worth fretting over.

– The Blades were disappointing with Mousset blanking and Lord Lundstram giving us a reality check with only 10 points from 5 games. This guy is human and maybe not a “set and forget” in the starting eleven after all. However he did have a goal disallowed and almost got three assists !! So actually, with a 47% ownership, YES he is set and forget. Though shalt play Lord Lundstrum.

– Just one of those weeks. My team is great and eight of them just decided to blank this week at the same time !! Ten of them were playing away so maybe not a huge surprise. The flip side is that ten of them are at home this week. Nice.

So what next ??

This is not a time for panic after a disappointing red arrow – for two reasons :

Firstly, I now have triple Leicester at home to Norwich ( wow ), I have triple Liverpool at home to Watford ( wow), I have a double Chelsea attack at home to Bournemouth (nice ). Add to that Lundstram at home to Villa, keeper Pope at home to Newcastle ( that’s ten at home ) with De Bruyne hardly quaking in his boots visiting the Emirates. I am in no rush to make sales to jump on the Spurs train, this week at least. That’s an unchanged line up if ever I saw one. That’s as good as it gets this week. Big hauls here we come then ??

Secondly, I don’t really want to make a transfer this week, as I want two up my sleeve for the much talked about GW18 that follows this weekend, when Liverpool disappear to the other side of the world for the world club championship. To those that hold three Liverpool players, and also hold three Leicester players away at Man City, it’s a week where you need all the transfers you can get, with those bench players gaining added importance as they are needed to step up to the plate.

What about that GW18 :

So if I can navigate the European week injury free, and field my existing team this week in GW17 for those tasty games, one eye is now on the GW18 that follows, with a few possible moves planned and a bit of thinking time and a chance to watch how players perform this weekend, before making some big choices in GW18.

– I could put my three absent Liverpool players on the bench. Simple. Use my bench players but with the risk of fielding less than 11. That needs everyone else to play. Guilbert started the last game on the Villa bench, Trent and Lundstram are on four yellows, rotation is rife. I would be very lucky to scrape 11 players in GW18.

– This could actually be a good opportunity to finally come off that Liverpool defensive double up ( yes I know shock horror ) giving me 12 available players instead of 11, especially as Liverpool follow their blank GW18 with free scoring Leicester, as well as Spurs and Man Utd on the horizon. It also means that sacrificing Robertson for a budget defender can be a great source of cash and a route in to all the emerging attacking options in midfield or up top. That’s it then, Robertson can go in GW18. He is going to give me a leaving present of 12 points on Saturday before he sets off to Qatar.

– I could switch Robertson to Kelly, which would allow me to move from 442 to 343 and upgrade Mousset to Jiménez. One drawback is that Jiménez has tricky fixtures coming up ( though he has Norwich in GW18 ) and also it would mean if I play Lundstram, Trent and Soyuncu, Kelly might have to play on the bench, which potentially negates the benefit of having him for great Palace fixtures. I could take a hit and upgrade Pope to Guaita which would then give me the Palace defensive coverage. I could even bring in Guaita in GW19 for free as Kelly will get a game while Trent is away.

– I could also do the Robertson to Kelly switch and stick to 442, playing him instead of Robertson. Stick with Mousset on my bench. Then upgrade Mount to Alli. However, in the same way I preferred Maddison to Tielemans, I don’t want to settle for Alli when I really want Son. And I am not convinced Alli is worth the upgrade on Mount.

– I have McGinn burning a hole in my pocket on my bench which is an ineffective use of funds. So I could downgrade him to say Cantwell or Shelvey for the bench, and that would allow me to get Rashford instead of Jiménez, or Son instead of Alli. I like that !! So lots to consider ahead of GW18 – that’s if all my players avoid injury before then of course !!

Captain :

It’s another tough one. Three great options. Abraham at home to Bournemouth, Mane at home to Watford, but I am finding it hard to look past Vardy at home to Norwich. He is in great form, Leicester don’t play in Europe so Vardy gets a nice little rest, and I am not in a rush to take the armband off him in current form !!

Line up:

Unchanged !! Ten at home plus De Bruyne. McGinn and Mousset can fight each other for first sub.

Good luck in GW17 !!

Transfer summary:Carrying over the transfer, unless injuries intervene.

Andrew Pratt

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 8k last season and 1k in 17/18

GW16 points: 75 (FPL average 54) Total points 878 Gameweek rank 575k, Overall Rank: 710k, green arrow 284k, Team Value: £103.1m

Thoughts on Gameweek 16

This was only my second green arrow in a frustratingly barren 9 gameweek run. As feared, the trust I placed in new recruit Mane was rewarded by him being rested immediately – but Grealish deputised with 6 points from the bench. Salah justified my captaincy pick by matching vice Vardy’s 13 points, although Vardy could’ve easily had more. Salah is now over his ankle injury and both Liverpool and Leicester continue to look good. Spurs excelled and now demand our attention. As a United fan, I watched the City game with a nauseating mix of delight at out-manoeuvring City and abject horror at witnessing Liverpool effectively winning the league. Rashford and Wan-Bissaka were impressive and Rashford will be on many radars. Everton too had an inspired performance with Richarlison and Sidibe catching the eye. Chelsea’s form seems to be on the wane and many managers will be offloading Abraham, Pulisic and Mount. I can see many investing cash from their departing City and Chelsea assets into Spurs attackers. Baldock was my highest scorer and my faith in the Sheffield United triple up is only slightly dented after they’ve looked fallible for a few weeks.

Thoughts on Gameweek 17 and beyond

I aim to turn my season around and be in the top 350k by the end of December (i.e. in the next 4 gameweeks).

Unless there are big injuries in the midweek games, I’ll look to hold my single free transfer as gameweek 18 may well require some juggling with Liverpool’s blank and likely ongoing rotation requiring playing benches. I considered the early transfer of Jimenez and de Bruyne out for Rashford and Alli for a hit but the move feels too “sideways” with de Bruyne very capable of hurting Arsenal this week and Alli’s next fixtures being away to Wolves and home against Chelsea. I’d really prefer Son and from gameweek 19. Also, this move might be a bit crippling if Tomori and Mousset are out longer term.

Tomori and Mousset are currently flagged at 75%. Tomori has apparently been out with a hip issue which is better news than had he simply been dropped. I’ll hold him for this week and monitor the situation comfortable that I have 4 other playing defenders anyway. I’m hoping Mousset recovers in time for Sheffield United’s imminent set of 3 tasty fixtures. Tielemans remains a frustration but he’ll stay for now. The double Liverpool attack looks menacing this week but I’ll likely need to lose at least one of them in gameweek 18.

Captain and vice will be between Salah, Mane and Vardy. With especially big hauls potentially at stake this week, I need to get the captain choice correct. Vardy is probably safest.

On my watchlist are: Rashford, Son (from gameweek 19) and upgrading Tielemans to Maddison (from gameweek 20).

Transfer summary: Probably carrying over a free transfer

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 3 seasons were 596k, 17k and 21k

GW16 points: 77 (FPL average 54) Total points 910 Gameweek rank 443k, Overall Rank: 292k, green arrow 172k, Team Value: £103.5m

A much needed good week on GW17 with 77 points for a 443K GW rank, and a good green arrow of 170K. Still seemingly far in rank from the 100K mark that would be a nice place to be by the new year, but in points there is not much distance. The Salah captain worked well this time, although eventually Vardy matched his tally on Sunday. The long awaited Liverpool clean sheet arrived, but of course TAA was not to get the points, Jimenez assisted, and finally my transfers worked well this time, with both Alli and Guaita keeping their good form. I was 50/50 between Guaita and Ryan, so big thanks here to fellow contributor Kris O, who went for Guaita over his current pick of Ryan in his Patron imaginary wildcard article of last week.

Fixtures are again looking great in paper for my team, and I even have a strong bench, so carrying over a transfer for GW18, i.e. Liverpool’s blank. Then I will swap one Liverpool defender and bench the other, and need to decide if also transferring Salah or benching him. Haven’t thought the options yet.

Captain this week is on Vardy for now, vice on Salah. Bench is Tomori, Ayew, Dendoncker.

Good luck for GW17 Geekers
