This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Happy with GW1. 80 points. No transfers for this week and Salah captain.

I’ll make a double transfer next week. The players under threat are Fraser and King – I need to see more from them. Zinchenko will likely need replacing at some point too.

GW1 Reflections

A score of 84 is solid, like many Salah (c) and Sterling providing the backbone – for those following my draft teams will know I had experimented going without one or the other but luckily pre-season helped me see sense! I felt a little unlucky my other Liverpool assets didn’t score higher, Firmino in particular with just one assist – hopefully the super cup is a sign of better things to come. Very pleased with my Martial choice and expect if I didn’t own him, like many, I would be buying for GW2. My biggest regret was not choosing a more nailed 4.5m defender ( I have Femenia) – as Kev pointed out on the FFGeek slack channel four of my five defenders have rotation risk.

GW2 team

I’ve subbed in Lundstram (SHU home to CRY) for Femenia (WAT away to EVE). Captain currently Salah but may switch to Sterling, especially after Salah’s 120 mins yesterday. Finally I’ve transferred in McGinn for Moura which I explain below.

Like many I’ve got my eye on GW3 and Kane at home to Newcastle. Luckily the City GW2 match has minimised demand for Kane, but his price will likely rocket if he performs well at Man City. The obvious route is switching Moura (likely losing place to returning Son in GW3) for a 6m (or less) midfielder and using the 1.5m to upgrade Firminio. However, I like the double pool attack so I’m thinking about a three transfer move for GW3:

Moura to McGinn +2m. I like Villa fixtures and in addition to scoring last weekend good reports from last season.
Robertson to a 4.5m defender +2.5m.
The two transfers give me the exact cash for King (6.5) to Kane (11.0).
Any price movement will scupper my plans; meaning I may have to act early in GW3 – maybe even during the weekend. King, Moura and Robertson are already showing red price arrows so a bad performance could accelerate an early price drop. I’m also at risk to injuries or suspension – so what could go wrong?!

The obvious risk to my proposed gGW team is a further weakening of my defence and specifically no Pool defenders – though Arsenal at home GW3 isn’t the worst time to be without Pool. I’m already thinking ahead for Salah to Mane; reinvesting the 1m into my defence. I also note, although clearly only one week, three of the top four scoring defenders were 4.5m, the other 5m. So I’m hoping I can find some value to avoid my defence dragging my team too much.

I’ve been weighing up completing the Moura to McGinn this game week. Notably McGinn home to Bournemouth a better fixture than city away (unless we get a repeat CL semi final goal fest), however my hand has been forced as McGinn almost certainly going up in price.

Although I’ve started my transfer plan I’ve still got options, including the simple Firmino to Kane switch in GW3, saving a 4 point hit and leaving 0.5m in the bank.

Good luck for GW2!!!

Costas Chari

Costas’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 84k, 29k and 27k

GW1 points: 81  (average 65) Total points 81 Gameweek rank 930k, Overall Rank: 930k, arrow n/a, Team Value: £100.0m

GW1 left a bittersweet taste. On one hand 81 points and 6 returning players but on the other hand 930k OR is nothing I can brag on.

Reason for this is that all returning players where mostly template players with high ownership and my differentials failed me! Trossard got the bench and I was really waiting a lot for him, Deulofeu got Subbed early, and Bournemouth assets with Siggy blanked.

I wont panic and start changing everyone instead I will keep to my plan. I believe Deulofeu has big role to play in the Watford attack and he has the fixtures. He will be fit now to play a whole 90min. Trossard on the other hand was never bought to fill the bench and has 2 great fixtures so I am keeping the faith.

As planned BOU assets will stay and one of the probably Fraser will give way for either a promising LEI midfielder or Martial if he continues to score.

Captain this week is Salah and on the bench as a first substitute is Lundstram. I really wanted to start him but cant bench anyone else.

Planning ahead- I really don’t like the way Liverpool are defending- 12 shots for Norwich is wayyyyy too much! So I will have to make the decision to axe TAA or VVD sooner than expected

Good Luck!

GW 1 Review

A very interesting opening weekend of the season. 5 very comprehensive wins – 2 expected, 3 unexpected, an abundance of clean sheets – 9 in total and 2 goalless draws. A volatile mish-mash! The Liverpool and City wins certainly went with the form book, the only surprise in these being that Norwich scored a 2nd half consolation at Anfield to wipe out The Reds clean sheet. Not many would have predicted the other 3 big wins though. Potter looks to have weaved his magic on the south coast as GW1 Brighton look a fantastic beast compared to the squib they were in the latter part of 2018-19. The Clarets looked like they’d aged like a fine wine over the summer as they demolished the Saints with a ruthless second half display. And then there was the United v Chelsea game, where the 4-0 scoreline perhaps belies the fact that Chelsea hit the woodwork twice in the first half and had more shots on target, with David De Gea also posting notice that he may have returned to the form of old.

For Chaos Theory it was certainly a satisfying start to the season. If at 7pm last Friday night you’d offered me a GW rank of 216k with 8/11 returns then I would have snapped your hand off. Friday started well with returns for VVD and Salah and by the start of the 3pm kick-offs I was sitting on 5/5 returning players after Sterling, KDB and Zinchenko did the business against West Ham. Ryan, Digne and Wilson added returns in the afternoon kick-offs, with my only blanks this week coming from Wood, Locadia and Perez on Sunday (more about them later.) Indeed, it looked like I might be on for a dream start of a 5 figure GW rank going into the final game of the weekend at Old Trafford, but the high ownership of AWB and moderate ownership of Maguire and Rashford scuppered this. I most certainly am not complaining though – 92 points is a great start!

GW2 Team

Onto GW2 then. Some decisions to be made and a few little niggly concerns for my team, but I’m planning to roll my transfer. First up I’ll look at team selection. I’ve actually set up with exactly the same team as last week but it’s not without worry. My concerns are mainly around my forwards. I’m worried about Locadia’s game time – he was subbed after just over an hour and the 2 attacking replacements (Andone and Maupay) both scored when they came on. Then there’s also Wood who has a tough fixture at The Emirates this week and will likely blank. The option I have is to sub Lundstram (home to Palace) in for one of them, but I’ve decided to stick with my 3-4-3. I figure that Locadia might at least get some gametime and if he does the Brighton have a nice fixture. For Wood when I look at him versus Lundstram, I think the return chances for each are fairly even but it’s more fun to have the attacking player. That’s sorted then.

Next up is captain selection. Pre-season, I had Salah earmarked for this week, but Liverpool’s minutes on Wednesday do make me slightly worried about how well they’ll perform this week. I’m still sitting with the armband on him at the moment, but Sterling is tempting. I’ll probably make a call on this on Friday night after I’ve got all the news from the pressers. Finally, looking further forward I’ve got a few players on my watchlist. I’m definitely keen to get a Man United player in next week. I’ll be watching Rashford, Martial and their defence carefully against Wolves. I’ll also be keeping an eye on a certain Harry Kane. A good performance at the Ethiad might tempt me to restructure things to bring him in. Last up, I’m interested in some of the budget attack options. I think Maupay at Brighton might be a nice option and I was also impressed with Wesley and McGinn at Villa. Food for thought.

So that’s it from me for this week – all the best for GW2 folks and enjoy the weekend’s fixtures :-)

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 3 seasons were 596k, 17k and 21k

GW1 points: 78  (average 65) Total points 78 Gameweek rank 1,230k, Overall Rank: 1,230k, arrow n/a, Team Value: £100.0m

A reasonable start to the season with 78 points. I thought it would be a lot worse after the City game and Sterling hat trick, but Kane delivered and all my back line plus Martial chipped in. I am reasonably happy with the squad, my cheap bench players all started their respective games, so I should have good cover there should be needed.

So saving the transfer this week with no major issues in there. Idea was to captain Salah but with the 120 minutes in the supercup do I switch to someone else? Sigurdsson? I might do it

Good luck for GW2 geekers :)
