Fantasy premier league team tips GW21 – FFGeek contributor’s teams part 2

This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

See the part 1 contributors teams article here as well

 Ben Wooton

Ben’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 61k, 26k and 31k.

GW20 points: 77 (FPL average 54) Total points 1,215 Gameweek rank 159k, Overall Rank: 10k, green arrow 11k, Team Value: £104.1m

Struggled with a transfer this week but have made one of my two. That’s Cathcart in for Targett, now he’s injury flagged as is Targett but they will be benched anyway this week. Villa losing McGinn and lack of real threat means I prefer the option of Watford who have picked up form and may have the odd clean sheet.

Captain Vardy who will be fresh and out to celebrate his baby, Alexander Arnold vice at least for now.

Joseph Crilley

Joseph’s last 3 seasons OR were 28k, 7k and 13k

GW20 points: 60 (FPL average 54) Total points 1,203 Gameweek rank 2,272k, Overall Rank: 18k, red arrow 2k, Team Value: £106.1m

I managed to scrape my way to a decent score on the weekend which was mainly from the big hitters as Mane and De Bruyne contributed to over 50% of my total of 60 points. This resulted in a small red arrow of 3k, but I remain pleased with my team’s performance over the Christmas period (GW18 – GW21) as I have moved up from 73k to 19k with only the New Year’s Day gameweek to go. With two free transfer to be used, I am in good shape as we head into 2020!

The lack of Man Utd in my attack along with not owning Danny Ings has been hurting for a few weeks, but my alternatives have performed adequately to cover for this. Looking around my team, there is only Grealish who I am not comfortable with owning which makes it difficult to find a route to bring in Martial or Rashford due to price or Ings as I would prefer to wait for the fixtures to improve. Therefore, I am going to make another keeper swap as Henderson has three tough fixtures over the next four gameweeks and I would prefer him to have more save potential. With the upcoming double gameweek, I will take advantage of Fabianski’s return to fitness by bringing him in and I hope that Moyes can have a positive effect on the West Ham team.

For captaincy this week, I have considered De Bruyne and Mane, but the armband is going back to Vardy following his rest at the weekend. Newcastle may have only conceded 9 goals at home this season, but the expected stats suggest that they have been fortunate to not concede more so I am hoping the Vardy party starts up again!

The first game week of a new decade is here and so much has happened since my last team update. GW19 was Alexander Arnold’s coronation as the best defender for FPL in many years. Then I played my wildcard, and after the usual tinkering and constant swapping of players, I ended up with a quite unusual team. I couldn’t stop myself of getting Aguero once he is back, fixtures are great and his ownership is nothing among serious players. The forward line is completed with Vardy and Maupay. The Argentine inclusion had to be funded by going with 3 cheap mids in support of De Bruyne and Salah. Finally in defence I added a Watford double up to Liverpool, Leicester and City representation.

My new squad had a good start with 73 points and a GW rank of 378K. The Watford trio all returned which was very pleasing to see, as equally satisfying was to see my captain Aguero score. Alexander Arnold and De Bruyne kept going with their business and Maupay got an assist. Christmas rotation counting: Otamendi and Vardy missed completely, El Ghazi and Cantwell only off the bench.

Having just played the wildcard, the team is in good shape and fixtures are again great this week, so I will be saving the transfer. Vardy at Newcastle was already an appealing fixture, and having missed on the previous game he seems a certain starter, so he gets the armband. Salah, De Bruyne & Aguero were also options, but all carry some degree of rotation risk. The Watford boys and Maupay make the 11, with Cantwell, Evans and El Ghazi as cover in the bench.

Rob Cosgrove

Rob’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 45k, 40k and 23k

GW20 points: 79  (FPL average 54) Total points 1,164 Gameweek rank 97k, Overall Rank: 102k,  green arrow 86k, Team Value: £104.0m

A great final gameweek of 2019! I missed out on Calvert-Lewin’s goal last week but made up for it this week coming off the bench for 12 points. I love the feeling when my fringe players return! (Fringe player = differential).

I have a few players on the out list: Zaha, Grealish, Van-Aanholt & Pope. Zaha survives another week due to the fixture of Norwich away, Grealish survives but takes first bench spot this week, Pope survives as this is his final good fixture before they fall off a cliff. Van-Aanholt wasn’t as lucky though….

I didn’t particularly want (or need) to make a transfer this week but because I rolled it over last week I had to make at least 1 otherwise I kind of lost a free transfer (that’s how I look at it anyway).

So, I may be the only person in the world doing this transfer this week… but Van-Aanholt has been transferred out for Sidibe! I know he has Man City away but I was going to do this transfer next week anyway so I have planned ahead and he will be on the bench so no harm done really!

I love the Bournemouth fixtures but there is nobody I would consider at the moment.

Transfer Summary: Van-Aanholt OUT, Sidibe IN
Captain: Vardy.

Alex Ball

Alex’s last 5 seasons overall rank were 523k, 17k, 10k, 28k and 3k

GW20 points: 47 -4  (FPL average 54) Total points 1,031 Gameweek rank 5,218k, Overall Rank: 1,928k,  red arrow 321k, Team Value: £105.1m

Another week, another red and down to about 1.9 million. If you’ve seen my articles lately they’ve been short and rather full of doom and gloom as things haven’t been going well and you may well be expecting the same again! But I’ve just finished recording the Geek pod with John, Shaun and Andrew. It was great chatting football and listening to the fellas opinion on my team and what are good moves going forward has put me in a positive mood about things so a big thanks fellas!

The week was a bit of a disaster; 47-4 (but the hit of Janmaat/Pulisic to TAA/Grelish did pay off at least). Returns from only De Bruyne, Alexander Arnold and Rashford did the damage as they are all highly owned combined with other highly owned players such as Mane, Tammy, Ings also returning and a captain blank from Salah saw a big red.

On to this week and the team looks pretty good, The defence of Pope, Soyuncu, Alexander Arnold and Kelly all have nice fixtures with good clean sheet odds. Grealish still looks good for his price although I am eyeing up Traore as a replacement. Salah, De Bruyne and Alli have nice fixtures this week, Alli could make way for Mane soon (more on that below!) Up front, I think Rashford could well do well against the Gunners on the counter attack, Jimmy continues to pass the eye test and Vardy with a nice rest and being a new dad looks a great option v a Newcastle team that are struggling at the back, he’ll be my captain.

I was pretty certain about playing an early WC next week but after the pod chat, I’ve found a way to get to Mane (meaning I would have Alexander Arnold, Salah and Mane as my Pool trio) with no hit and keeping Rashford for his nice couple of fixtures before selling to fund Mane. I can also get DCL or Maupay for their nice run of fixtures. So for now the WC talk is on hold and we have a more positive Alex chatting about his FPL team again.

Good luck all and Happy New Year!
