Fantasy premier league team tips GW24 – FFGeek contributor’s teams part 2

This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Scott Taylor

Scott finished with an overall rank of 1k last season and 12k in 17/18

GW23 points: 36 (FPL average 44) Total points 1,345 Gameweek rank 5,422k, Overall Rank: 52k, red arrow 18k, Team Value: £106.1m

So, an appalling week! My worst of the season. Luckily the red arrow wasn’t too damaging helped in no small part by my double Liverpool defence. The points lost via my Pope to McCarthy transfer and Vardy captaincy were just something you have to accept in this game!

Like everyone else’s, my decisions this week revolve around the DGW. I have my Liverpool triple already and so I just need to decide who to captain and whether to use the triple captain chip. It’s between Alexander Arnold and Mane for me. I’m very tempted by Alexander Arnold as my sword option with Mane being my shield option. On that basis, I’d be more likely to use the TC chip on Mane. However, that reasoning is largely based on the pre-conception that you don’t captain a defender (not sure whether I ever have done) and therefore you certainly don’t TC a defender. Alexander Arnold’s performances (especially away) bear comparison with Mane and Salah this season so perhaps that pre-conception should change. Anyway, at the moment I’m still undecided.

The other decision is whether to bring in a West Ham player. I wasn’t intending to but Richarlison’s injury has got me thinking. I could go Richarlison to Snodgrass. This would then give me the money for Vardy to Aguero next week depending on Vardy’s performance this week. Then Mahrez and Greenwood to Grealish/Trossard/Doucoure and Ings/Jimenez in later weeks. That leaves Rico, Maddison and Soyuncu as potential problems. So, it feels like my team is a bit up in the air at the moment. One thing I will not be doing is overreacting though – my team has performed well so far so I don’t want to make any drastic changes.

Line up wise, it’s really a choice between Lundstram and Soyuncu for the final spot. At the moment, Lundstram gets the nod for his higher ceiling and Leicester’s current defensive issues. That assumes Richarlison is replaced by Snodgrass. If I don’t do that, Soyuncu and Lundstram will both start.

Transfer summary: either Richarlison to Snodgrass or rolling the free to next week.

Rob Cosgrove

Rob’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 45k, 40k and 23k

GW23 points: 52 -4 (FPL average 44) Total points 1,337 Gameweek rank 2,119k, Overall Rank: 73k, green arrow 4k, Team Value: £104.6m

My 4 point hit on a goalkeeper paid off! A last minute Alisson assist pretty much saved my whole gameweek. 0 points for my captain didn’t really hurt that much considering a lot of people went with Vardy and the alternative option of De Bruyne blanked so all in all a good gameweek.

This gameweek I have been contemplating bringing in a West Ham midfielder for the DGW but I can’t see them performing well; Leicester away and then Liverpool at home are 2 hard fixtures plus there is no stand out option to transfer in. If Snodgrass was playing 90 mins every week I would have took a chance on him but he seems to alternate between starting and being on the bench.

The only real 50/50 choice I have this week is Ings VS Zaha; Hassenhuttl has teased the idea of benching Ings whereas Zaha has not been bringing home many points (an assist against Man City last GW surprised me). It wouldn’t be the first time Ings is benched and with this GW coming so soon I think the safest option is to go with Zaha.

Transfer summary: Carrying over the free transfer

Captain: Mane

Kris O

Kris’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 44k, 46k and 23k

GW23 points: 28 (FPL average 44) Total points 1,323 Gameweek rank 6,677k, Overall Rank: 119k, red arrow 58k, Team Value: £106.5m

An absolutely terrible week with a gw rank of 6.7m. Surely it can only get better from here?!

I was tempted to ditch my Leicester assets in protest but decided West Ham at home is not the right exit point.

I’ve decided to stick with Kelly to Robertson transfer – not done yet, as will wait for press conferences. Captain currently Mane but might switch to Alexander-Arnold. I’m not playing my triple captain.

Good luck for the first double gameweek!

Transfer summary:  Martin Kelly out Robertson in to be confirmed

Kev in Canada

Kev finished in 6k last season and 195k in 17/18

GW23 points: 49 (FPL average 44) Total points 1,278 Gameweek rank 2,641k, Overall Rank: 419k, green arrow 34k, Team Value: £106.7m

A few observations before getting into the player analysis:

•    I am 90% going to TC Mané. The 10% is if I read something I haven’t thought of, an injury happens, or Salah’s beaming smile drifts into my head..

•     There seems to be a new asset tugging at my ‘want’ chords each week. It was Ings now it is Aguero. I just need to remember that as soon as I get them their form dies (ahem.. Maddison, Kelly, McCarthy)

•     I just spent 30 min debating with cheapie defender to replace Rico with to save his 0.1M drop. I need to get out of my head. It makes way more sense to carry the transfer forward this week to potentially address Leicester after West Ham.

Game week player analysis:

☆     Keeper

•    McCarthy. You get what you pay for?

•    Gazzaniga. Lloris is back soon. I will start him against Norwich this week just in case he plays again. He is at home so I would prefer him to play over McCarthy.

☆    Defenders

•    Alexander Arnold. Looks strong as ever. Rotation risk has picked up slightly with Matip back (Gomez would shift right).

•    Rico. The only reason I have to hold on is BOU plays in the GW28 blank week and they randomly got those 3 clean sheets in a row earlier. He is so cheap for me I may as well hope he comes into form again and save the transfer.

•    Söyüncü. Will hold for now. Leicester looked off again though. Their West Ham match is a big game this week as far as my transfer plans go.

•    Kelly. Leaning towards Kelly starting over Rico or Lundstram.

•    Lundstram. Another 70 min sub. Tough fixture up next. After that it is a nice long green fixture run.

☆     Midfielders

•    De Bruyne. It will be nice to watch him this week without his points hurting me due to captaincies, as everyone will be on pool.

•    Salah. Captaincy paid off. It was 90 min of yelling at the TV and the one moment of joy. He could have should have had some more too.

•    Maddison. I was coaching my son when the match was on and haven’t seen the highlights but I heard he wasted his chances. West Ham is a big game for his future in my lineup. He’s likely gone tbh as I have no built up value in him.

•    Mané. Shot it right at the goalie! Likely my TC chip player..

•    Grealish. I was a bit suprised ppl benched him this week. Sure City drubbed Villa but that is hardly a reflection on Jack. He is one week removed from dominating Burnley. He is a true talisman and in a fair price range.

☆ Forwards

•    Vardy. See De Bruyne. It will be nice to cheer his points on this week with little opposing arm band action.

•    Ayew. 1st sub.

•    Maupay. I will admit I was a little unenthusiastic about bringing Maupay in after his debut for me last week (needed to for Mané). However 4 shots, one really nice one that almost went in, and an assist were great to get this week. His fixtures are the tops for the next few weeks.

Upcoming GW24

☆    Musical Chairs

Carrying over the free transfer.

☆    Captain

TC Mané. VC Salah

☆    Substitute decisions

McCarthy. Ayew. Rico. Lundstram.

Good luck.

Andrew Pratt

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 8k last season and 1k in 17/18

GW23 points: 43 (FPL average 44) Total points 1,258 Gameweek rank 3,944k, Overall Rank: 648k, red arrow 33k, Team Value: £104.3m

Thoughts on Gameweek 23

After I swapped out Jimenez for Ings last week, Richarlison picked up a knock so I swapped him out for Noble (rather than Fleck who had 2 tough fixtures). This transfer was part of my intended gameweek 24 strategy of moving out Richarlison for a cheap midfielder to fund the Maddison to Mane move.

My only returners in another below average week were Alexander-Arnold, Grealish and Salah. Spurs and Dele Alli looked very poor. City again huffed and puffed and failed to put away a lesser team. I’m happy to be rid of Chelsea assets. I’ve never liked Ings as an FPL asset and he remains a troubling recent addition to my team after making no impression this week – but I’m fully aware that dropping him will mean he explodes again so he stays for now. Leicester and Vardy were undone by an inspired Burnley and Pope’s heroics / good fortune. I feel I wouldn’t miss Maddison or Soyuncu too much but Vardy would be a reluctant sell. Liverpool continues to look excellent value.

Thoughts on Gameweek 24 and beyond

Despite a reasonable team, at 648k OR and showing no clear signs of rapid improvement I’m starting to feel the need to gamble on a few differentials if I’m to salvage this season. Limping along to a say 400k season OR is no one’s idea of fun. The type of differential moves I’m thinking of includes:

– Aguero (for Vardy): this is high risk as Vardy will probably still score well going forward and Aguero possibly rotated; and sticking with Aguero at the start of the season burnt me and is ironically the reason I need him now

– To not use the triple captain chip in gameweek 24 in the hope Liverpool don’t return hugely and a better double gameweek presents itself later in the season

– Triple captain Alexander-Arnold in gameweek 24, rather than Mane or Salah

– David Silva: I figure if Pep feels Liverpool are not going to be caught he may give the club captain a good run until the end of his last season with City

– Mendy: probably only sensible after Laporte returns

– Minamino / Origi / Shaqiri: for later in the season once Liverpool cannot be caught and are focused on Champions League, etc.

– Unpopular captain picks

I’ll see how gameweek 24 goes before developing these thoughts. I’m aware though that having a pretty template-y team makes it tough to make big strides without taking some risks. In previous seasons these type of points-chasing moves have lost me rank in about 2 out of 3 times I’ve tried them. Think captaining a massively underperforming Alexis Sanchez in a double gameweek when he only featured in one of the games and did nothing in it. So for me the risk is clear but the consequences of them backfiring this season are quite low.

I have one free transfer and I’ll probably stick to the plan and move out Maddison to Mane. Maddison’s price is dropping soon. This move is tricky in that it is optimal for the very short term but a move for a Liverpool defender like van Dijk instead would free up the cash to get in Aguero later, while allowing me to keep all three Liverpool assets for their long run of green fixtures. Getting Mane now means he, Salah or de Bruyne would probably need to leave in order for me to get Aguero. This feels like a decision which will have a big influence on my trajectory for the rest of the season.

I’ll probably triple captain Salah, with vice on one of the other Liverpool players.

Good luck, all

Transfer summary:  Maddison Out Mane in to be confirmed.  Triple captain on Salah to be confirmed

I actually don’t know what my rank is. I know it will be another red which was compounded by me selling 2 goal Jimenez. So far I’ve sold De Bruyne, Alexander Arnold and Jimenez before big point hauls. You just have to laugh.

Firmino in for Rashford and triple captain on Salah. Good luck all.
