Fantasy premier league team tips GW31 – FFGeek contributors show their GW31 teams part 2

Here’s part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

GW30 review

After a blip in GW29, it was a happy return to the land of green arrows last week. A fairly steady performance from my team, 5/11 returns and a GR rank just outside 1m to just about fit Geek’s metrics of a good gameweek. This led to a tidy rise of 38k, undoing last week’s red arrow and gaining a bit on top.

It was all about my front 7, with my 4 defensive players contributing a grand total of 1 point each! In midfield and attack my United players blanked, but other than this there were assists from Salah and captain Aguero, goals from Jimenez and Mili and then there was that bumper 21 point haul from Raheem Sterling. Turns out he was actually quite a good purchase last week then, shame I didn’t captain him!

My only major issue looking beyond GW31 is Guaita as he looks set to lose his place back to Hennessey again. I’ll have a think about my options here over the international break – if Watford get knocked out the FA Cup, I may conserve a transfer as I will have a keeper for GW33; but if Watford get through I’d be tempted to burn a GW32 transfer to bring in a keeper that plays in both weeks if I indeed decide to Bench Boost that week.

Anyway enough long term planning, let’s get excited about my GW31 Free Hit!

GW31 Team

My article earlier in the week gave some clues about who I was looking at and the structure of my team and this is what I’ve gone for.

First of all, 3 Liverpool players. Salah and Mane were always going to be there and they’re joined by a defender. I was tempted to switch to Robertson or Alexander-Arnold, but Van Dijk has just been too good for my team this season, he’s been an absolute talisman. So I’m sticking with the big Dutchman, especially after his goal and assist in Munich on Wednesday.

Next up, they’re playing Huddersfield so 3 Hammers looks a good shout. 2 of these are in defence with OOP defensive midfielder Rice and ever-present since GW3 Diop. I did toy with having Fabianski as well and going with 3 Hammers at the back, but this looked a little too risky. You may also be wondering why I’ve not gone with Fab as the obvious goalkeeping choice and gone for Rice and Diop instead. My reasoning? This is a one week differential hit and goalkeeper is a good differential area. Sure he’s a good clean sheet chance but so are Rice and Diop with slightly increased chance of attacking returns. Fab’s big appeal is in his save points and I don’t expect Huddersfield to be having that many shots on goal, so I’m going for a keeper who’s going to be a bit busier. So my third West Ham choice is an attacking player and I’ve gone a bit left-field here with Antonio. Bit of a gut selection this one!

The other certainties in my team when I started looking this week were Hazard and Fraser. Hazard is an explosive player who can score big on his day so he’s in. Fraser is rathed as a slight doubt but apparently has trained today so I’d expect him to start tomorrow. As you all know I’m a big fan of the little Scotsman and I’m hoping he does well this weekend. So I’ve committed to 5 in midfield, so next up I picked my 2 strikers. Jamie Vardy is my first choice here and he’s joined by Callum Wilson. Vardy looks revitalised under Brendan Rogers and Wilson (despite being a bit of a nemesis for me last season) looked sharp last weekend. I’ve selected Barnes as my 3rd option and he’ll be my first sub just in case someone misses out.

Just my keeper left then and this is a tricky one. I’m maxed out on Liverpool and West Ham so I’ve gone for the teams with the next best clean sheet odds in Chelsea and Bournemouth; Kepa and Boruc have these 2 spots. I’m still not 100% sure which of the 2 I’ll start, but at the moment I’m leaning towards the premium option of Kepa. I suspect both have a good chance of picking up save points, I just worry a little more about the Bournemouth defence and I fancy Newcastle will nick a goal as their forwards have been in good form recently. Finally there’s my last 2 bench spots and these are fillers. I’ve gone for 2 more players who should have guaranteed gametime in Tarkowski and Yedlin.

Ok now another tricky decision – Salah vs Mane for captaincy. I suspect Salah will be heavily backed this week. His ownership is still high and despite his form stuttering a bit of late, his stats are still very good. If he scores the floodgates will open I’m sure and I also remember what he did in the big blank week last season against Watford. Could blank gameweek lightning strike for Mo again?! Now to Mane and he certainly has the current form. He’s looked very sharp in the last few games, with some slick finishing – I loved the composure he showed for his first against Bayern in midweek. It’s a tough one. At the moment I’m sticking with the Shield option of Salah, but I’m going to sleep on this one and make a final call tomorrow morning. I’ll tweet if I flip!

So that’s me for GW31. Good luck to you, whether you’re Free Hitting this week or have scratch team together. May your arrows be green!

Yaniv has all his chips in place.

Took a minus 4 to get Maddison and Hazard for Jota and Raheem, after a minus 12 last week (Lucky me to get a good week after the hit with Raheem, Vardy and Fraser) and now I have 11 players for GW 31 + 33, next week is my FH team!

Just have to attach a nice quote of Ernest Hemingway that a friend sent me that related to GW31 :
Now is no time to think of what you do not have.
Think of what you can do with that there is!
Good luck all!

Mikael Hietala

Mikael finished with an OR of 22k last season

GW50 points: 42 (average 48) Total points 1,629 Gameweek rank 4,021k, Overall Rank: 835k, red arrow 97k, Team Value: £99.1m

Mikael has used his wildcard.  He’s using his free hit chip this week.

Free hit activated! I went with the spine of Salah-Mane-Hazard-Vardy, with Brooks and Snodgrass as the differentials to Fraser and Felipe Anderson (who is popular but hasn’t returned in quite a while if we are being honest). Chelsea will be buoyed by their midweek thrashing of Dynamo Kiev, and Azpi could well provide Higuain or Giroud with an assist. I feel that a clean sheet against an Everton team that has been a bit out of sorts is also a real possibility.

Armband goes to Salah, Hazard vice.
