Introduction

This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Ben Wooton

Ben’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 61k, 26k and 31k.

GW33+ points: 53 (FPL average 50) Total points 2,003 Overall Rank: 3k, red arrow 2k, Team Value: £103.8m

Going for something different here.

Two moves

Calvert Lewin out and Greenwood in.
Fixtures seems much better for latter and can afford to spread money elsewhere at least short term.

Second one is Fernandez of Newcastle out and Van Dijk in
This could back fire but Villa and Brighton feel like good games on paper for Liverpool clean sheets.
Van Dijk likes a goal vs the latter

Capt Salah
Vice Alexander Arnold

I feel Liverpool will want to batter Villa

Plan to play 343 with Foden 1st bench

Ps Hit button on Calvert Lewin but Van Dijk pending

Transfer summary:  Calvert Lewin out and Greenwood in done.  Likely Fernandez Newcastle out Van Dijk in

Here’s the team with the first transfer above done

Well this was definitely the week for the “have or don’t haves”. First we had Danny Ings either delighting his owners or continuing to troll people who just can’t own this guy at the right time . Then you either loved Nick Pope or you hated him. Then up pops Bruno Fernandes when you either captained him or switched him the week before to the blanking Martial after his previous weeks hat trick.. then Auba either had people squirming behind the sofa or doing cartwheels on it with 32 captain points !! De Bruyne and Sterling capped the gameweek off to cause more smiles or frowns. The ups and downs of FPL eh…

Gameweek 32+ review

– 61 Points was a bit disappointing in the end, resulting in a small 10k red arrow, following two previous green arrows after the restart. I did briefly crack the top 100k on Tuesday night with the top 1% in my sights, before slipping back. But 241k to 134k is progress post lockdown, so we move on..

GW32+ talking points:

– It’s never ideal playing your captain in the first game of the gameweek. Some managers don’t, purely out of principle, in case it goes wrong and prefer a captain in the back pocket like a joker to fall back on. An early captain blank from Jimenez made it a long six day gameweek. Doherty chipped in with another clean sheet. That’s seven clean sheets in eight now for Wolves which makes the defensive double up very appealing. I have Boly too but he was at first sub. With my favoured 343 having Trent, Doherty and Maguire, that’s a tad frustrating having Boly at first sub most weeks. I might consider going cheaper than Boly if I already have Doherty and can put that money into my starting attacking players. Or a change of formation to accommodate both wolves defenders in a 442.

– Man Utd continue to justify the triple up. Two goals and a 15 pointer from Bruno Fernandes and a clean sheet from Maguire. Rashford spent the game hugging the touch line so there is a decision to be made there for that third united spot, with Martial playing central striker, getting an extra point for every goal and another for a clean sheet. Moving the third united spot from Maguire to an attacking triple up is tempting but just too rich for me, especially with united so solid at the back with regular clean sheets.

– Nick Pope is now making a laughing stock of anyone going with a different keeper. Nine points to add to the ten in his previous game. Burnley now sit top for clean sheets and still have Sheffield United, Westham, Norwich and Brighton to play.

– Calvert Lewin and Mount are my only two players who have blanked in all three games since the restart. Calvert Lewin simply hasn’t got going so is under pressure in my team but there is little else at that price, with Ings entering a run of tough fixtures. I don’t want to hand Greenwood one of my three key united spots when Fernandes, Rashford, Martial, Wan Bissaka and Maguire are killing it.

– Mount has been buzzing around looking dangerous without returning. He has a tendency to drift deeper to get the ball. He lost his place v West Ham so Mount to the attacking Pulisic is my priority move this week. Mount has flattered to deceive and losing his place is significant with Pulisic looking so good.

– De Bruyne is a machine as he proved yet again on Thursday. I can’t envisage him leaving my team, even if city prioritise the cups. He is just too dangerous. An off night for Trent. I thought Salah could easily have had a couple of goals on another night. Like KDB, I am reluctant to lose Salah when he is chasing three successive golden boots.

So what next:

– I have zero in the bank and two free transfers. So plenty of flexibility. And plenty of options too.

– My team value has benefitted by everyone seemingly wildcarding on to the same team I built during lockdown, and by me free hitting in GW30+ and not having to sell off a team of double gameweek players all dropping in price. It’s worked out well and my team value now stands at a useful 105M.

-I have a few players on my watch list and a few directions that I could go.. my watch list players are currently :

– Pulisic in for Mount is a move I really like, especially with Watford at home next and good short term fixtures. The difficulty is finding the 0.8M and which direction to take to achieve the transfer.

– Aurier I like for his attacking threat and saving compared to Maguire. That’s softened though after Spurs poor showing at Sheff Utd. But with Trent, Doherty and Maguire in a 343, i wouldn’t want him as a fourth defender or he would be warming the bench just like Boly is. It would be to replace Maguire and free up that third united spot for three attacking Red Devil’s. United have six clean sheets in eight and Bournemouth next so I won’t be going there this week.

– Martial is playing central striker in a vibrant in form united team. I want to keep Fernandes but to have martial instead of Rashford has its attractions. Martial leads Rashford 26-13 for points since the restart, gets extra points for goals and clean sheets than Rashford and is playing centrally whereas Rashford is out on the wing. That’s a double switch though involving Saka to Nketiah too which I like for the bench. It would mean delaying Mount to Pulisic, but I might do this anyway and take a -4 hit. It would give me a 352 instead and a midfield five of Salah, De Bruyne, Fernandes, Martial and Pulisic. Nice ?? The question is – do I want to take a hit to flip from Rashford to Martial this week ??

– I could downgrade Calvert Lewin to Nketiah to get Mount to Pulisic, and then bring Boly in to play in a 442 instead. That would mean a change of formation and allow me to utilise Boly with a wolves defensive double up instead of Calvert Lewin. I could do that this week, plus bring in Pulisic and avoid a hit. Keep Rashford instead of Martial. It would also give me some extra cash in the bank to get Saka up to a decent 5th mid.

– I have played my bench boost so don’t need a second keeper anymore, especially with Pope holding the whole world up with one hand and only having one bad fixture v Liverpool. So I am looking to downgrade him to a non playing 3.9M keeper to put an extra 0.5M in my starting eleven which makes sense. But it doesn’t get me Pulisic this week on its own.

Captain and transfers:

-Bruno Fernandes at home to a hapless Bournemouth team who have just conceded four at home to Newcastle is very tempting. But Mo Salah is averaging 10 points at home to non top six sides with only one blank. He is also hungry for the golden boot for the third year in a row. It’s a brave man to take him on. Salah will be my captain unless news emerges that he won’t start. I expect Liverpool will be a wounded animal this weekend after what happened at the Etihad.

– I am still undecided on transfers.

– I have two frees. I am pretty set on Mount to Pulisic for one of them but I need another move to fund it.

– My big decision rests on whether to also swap Rashford to Martial for a 352 for a hit ( with Saka to Nketiah ). I quite like this option as it means I have a very strong midfield five and can use Maguire as my “cash cow” in the future, slot Boly in to defence, and use the cash to upgrade Calvert Lewin to Ings when his fixtures improve, or even have a route to getting Mahrez and Son too from my strong midfield five.

– The alternative is to do the Pulisic swap, keep Rashford over Martial, and switch Calvert-Lewin out to Nketiah and bring Boly in to the starting line up and play 442 instead without a hit. It gives me extra cash too to strengthen my overall squad and that creates plenty of options. It means I can get Phil Foden as a fifth mid when required and have the option to play 352 as well as 442. That’s where I might head. But I haven’t yet decided.

Good luck everyone !!

Transfer summary: Likely to be Mount for Pulisic.  The other to be confirmed

Somehow I got the smallest of green arrows, without Aubameyang, Pope or Ings in my lineup. I still haven’t squeaked into the top 100k yet, but I will take it.

This week I am using two free transfers.

1. Greenwood is now getting minutes and looks pretty good out there. It is possible I am wrong, but I think he has stolen the spot from James now. At 4.3m he solves the 3rd MUN player dilemma for me. Otherwise, I would have had to drop Son to get Martial or Rashford. I can change Calvert Lewin to Greenwood.

2. Not only do I get to keep Son (Everton this week is tough but then plays Bournemouth next week), but I also now have the funds to turn my weakest player Saka into Pulisic.

Captain: Salah
VC: Fernandes

Transfer summary;  Calvert Lewin OUT Greenwood IN.  Saka OUT Pulisic IN
