2 frees and 0 clue. Thats my world right now. Doherty transfer last week blew up and then Son ruined my weekend.

I almost pulled a Sunday rage triple transfer to get Son in for threemium. However, I haven’t made an early transfer at all this year. Maybe 1 or 2 early in the year but I wait until the last 30 min before the deadline. Its not worth 0.1 or whatever. I think Geek thinks I make early transfers due to my tv being high but that is not the case at all. It has just been about getting the template player before everyone else. Reece James, Robertson, etc. Not early week transfers…

So I resisted and I had a talk with Kris on our Pod and I think I would be chasing points by getting Son.

Will I captain Son if I get him anytime soon if at all? NO.

Can I get Man City after DGW33 if I get Son? NO.

So I decided to wait. As of now I am still planning a triple move and still planning to go to three premiums at Trent Alexander Arnold’s expense. However it is much more conservative.

The move I am currently settled on is:
Bruno Fernandes | Cedric | Dewsbury-Hall in for
Raphinha | Alexander Arnold | Gallagher

At first glance I dont like the look of that either. However it does a few things for me that all add up.

  1. Bruno is a captain favourite this week.
  2. All three players double this week for three that don’t. I also didn’t have a captain that doubled.
  3. It allows me to get triple City in 34 if they keep their DGW36. I have 1.3M itb and can swap Bruno and Doherty to KDB and Laporte/Matip.
  4. If City dgw moves to 37 I will bring in Son and Matip instead of De Bruyne and Laporte/Matip.
  5. If Chelsea/MUN 37DGW moves to DGW34/35 it allows me to keep Bruno and move Doherty to Rudiger.

It is also worth noting that this puts me at also an almost full team of DGW players for GW36 for the BB. I would then FH27. I could have 14DGW players with only one more planned hit.

This plan also allows me to get a much better forward for DGW36 by upgrading Weghorst to approx 8.0M. My other plans have me coming DOWN in price for 36 which is almost not even worth doing. I don’t even mean Pukki down, but rather Cucho/Joao Pedro price range..

Furthermore it must be said that I do not trust the main Leicester attackers to start both of these DGW33 games. I now think Maddison is a risky captain pick. Bruno is a much stronger overall pick. Especially if Ronaldo is disciplined for being an absolute muppet low-life by slapping a kids phone to the ground. Giving Bruno pens.

Captain: Bruno
Vice: Kane

Transfer summary: Likely Bruno | Cedric | Dewsbury-Hall in for Raphinha | Alexander Arnold | Gallagher out

Gameweek 32 review:

Well an eventful weekend which saw 30 goals in the onion bag, a top of the table classic, and a deadly hat trick from Heung Min Son.

Man City and Liverpool shared an entertaining 2-2 draw to leave things very tight at the top, Raphinha finally managed a double figure score as Leeds beat the Hornets 3-0, Spurs went one better against the Villains with three assists from King Harry and three goals from the South Korean maestro. And Chelsea went goal crazy with doubles from Mount and Werner in a 6-0 rout of the Saints.

Arsenal suffered surprise back to back defeats after the Seagulls swooped at the Emirates, Man Utd flopped at Everton, a win that was made all the better for the Toffees, in their sticky situation, with both Watford and Burnley losing.

My GW32 score, rank and wrap up:

I had said going into the gameweek that I was braced for a tough one, but it turned out surprisingly well. I scored 77-4 = 73 points, which was 8 points above the top 10k average, very pleasing having outscored the top 10k average by 20 points on each of the previous two weeks. To get a green arrow on any week after taking a -4 hit is a plus.

Having been in the doldrums at 226k just four weeks ago, I have now turned things around with four successive green arrows, up this week from 125k to 108k.

Richarlison was my double gameweek hero last week, Heung Min Son was the star of the show this week, his captain hat trick and 42 points was unexpected but a huge boost to my week, especially given the Kane v Son battle took on extra significance with the Spurs duo dominating the captaincy. The rank risks on the more heavily captained Kane, who I didn’t own, were massive this week so to get one against the grain this week could not have been better timed.

There has been a lot of recent pressure to take hits to switch Son to Kane, so that hat trick was reward for my patience and nerve. Son will stay now for sure. 48 points in three games is immense. There is no better finisher at his best. Is Kane playing a deeper role as provider now, having provided seven assists in the last three games with no goals, while Son is playing through the middle with six goals in those games ? No doubt Kane will outscore him and kick me in the mouth at times, possibly this week.

I am still extremely exposed to Spurs, with Son being my only Tottenham asset, when many are tripled on Kane, Kulusevski and Doherty. Of course, Kane and Kulu still scored heavily against me. The injury to Doc was a relief to me and a big frustration to his owners.

Raphinha finally buried his alergy to double figure returns with a 10 pointer, the perfect leaving present before Leeds’ blank gameweek, possibly his last appearance in my team. He has played a large chunk of the season in my team, often frustrating but it’s great for Raph to leave on a high.

I played all my premium defenders, Trent, Robertson and Cancelo in the big City v Pool clash, with the optimistic hope of a cautious 0-0, but both clean sheets disappeared very early. However, both Trent and Cancelo managed assists, with Cancelo in the bonus points too. Salah’s assist was pretty rank irrelevant given his virtual 100% effective ownership, with armbands directly offset by non owners.

Rudiger outscored Reece James again. While James has had cameos of 35 mins and 27 mins in his last two games, Rudi has quietly chipped in with three successive returns. So another small win this week from the safer option. There is no disputing the explosiveness of Reece James. But he has only one double figure haul since GW12, and has close to 40% of his points from just two games. Rudiger popped up to score again midweek in Madrid, while Reece played in a back three.

A big blip on my week was my three Arsenal players drawing a blank. I brought in Saka last week as a highly owned player and a big rank risk with it, to pair him up with Martinelli. Ramsdale missed out on his clean sheet v Brighton and my two attackers came up short. A VAR disallowed goal for Martinelli, just 10% owned at my rank level, would have been huge. Close but no cigar.

The least said about Weg Horse 🐴 the better. I am convinced he is playing with a wooden leg. His manager says he is trying too hard. I would hate to see him when he isn’t trying. He has a double gameweek now so having got this far, I will play him, then he will be probably leaving my team.

So what next ??

I have 0.3M in the bank and one free transfer. I have just one chip left, the bench boost. That leaves me exposed to those with free hits and wildcards remaining.

I am drafting these notes before the conclusion of the midweek European games, so any significant injury news would impact my plans. Bear in mind when reading on.

It’s now a double gameweek for seven teams and a blank gameweek for Villa, Leeds and Wolves. I have Raphinha and Digne with no game this week, with Digne also likely out for the season. These two are my likely transfers out this week. I also have Cucho with a muscle injury which is frustrating as I brought him in last week as a cheap enabler.

A lot will be free hitting this week. I have seen some very sexy drafts with huge potential points, although the free hit does come with risks. Those going “all in” on the doublers are exposed to some explosive single game players from Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Man City who play once. Bruno x 2 v Salah x1 will be interesting. I think some of the more aggressive free hitters could be punished this week. But I still expect the free hitters to do well.

I have one eye on my bench boost in making my transfers now, which I will probably play in the biggest double gameweek in GW36. But that’s not set in stone. More on the bench boost later.

I have five double gameweek players this week. That’s Ramsdale, Saka, Martinelli, Broja and Weghorst. And six players on a single Gameweek I am very happy to play. That’s Salah, Trent, Robertson, Son, Cancelo and Rudiger. So if I bring in any more doublers, I have to bench one of them. Of that list, Rudiger v Arsenal would reluctantly be the one confined to first sub. Broja and Weghorst don’t excite me, they both haven’t scored for eight games (!), but I am likely to still throw them in on a double.

What potential transfers am I considering ?

I have the funds to transfer the blanking Raphinha to the doubling Harvey Barnes. Leicester double in GW33, GW36 and GW37. Having said that, I prefer Maddison, who is more highly owned, will be a popular captain this week, and he is on set pieces too. Getting Maddison would mean a -4 hit, but if Digne is out for the season, I need to lose Digne anyway. He is my likely downgrade to get Madders.

Prior to the Spurs game, I had the exact money to make very early moves, highly risky of course, to turn Digne to the highly owned and coveted Doherty who doubled in GW36, and Raphinha to Maddison. But that’s now off the menu with Doherty likely out for the season. Finding an alternative defender who doubles in GW36 for a potential bench boost is not easy.

I can replace Digne with Schar of Newcastle who doubles this week, but that would mean extra benching headaches this week. I already have Rudiger confined to the bench by Maddison, I don’t want Schar to add Robertson to my bench.

And Newcastle not only don’t double in GW36 for a bench boost, they play Man City, so if I am thinking towards GW36, Schar is a poor transfer. He doesn’t fit my bench boost plans, and puts two premium defenders on my bench. If Schar comes in, and Rudiger and Robertson are on my bench, along with a doubling De Gea, that starts to bring a GW33 bench boost into the mix.

So if I still want to plan for a GW36 bench boost, my Digne replacement is likely to be someone who doubles in GW36. Leicester and Everton both have doubles in GW36 and GW37 too. That makes them attractive. So do Chelsea but there is nobody available at the price I need. So do Villa but it doesn’t feel great bringing in a Villa player who blanks this week.

I had a chance to get in Justin of Leicester for the exact money, but a further Maddison price rise has now prevented that. Amartey is another Leicester option but if he doesn’t nail his place, a 4M defender not playing is a nightmare to replace. Keane of Everton is another option with GW36 and GW37 doubles. Or my other options are Davies or Dier of Spurs. Tottenham have good fixtures, although the GW36 double is not great. I would get Ben White if I didn’t already have triple Arsenal.

Bench boost GW33 or GW36 ?

One option I am considering is getting the bench boost played now in GW33 and out of the way. It can be a millstone round your neck, dominating transfers over the next few weeks that are sub optimal and are better used elsewhere proactively for bigger points gains.

Do I want to spend the next three weeks setting up my bench and focusing on my weakest cheapest players. Ideally the bench boost is best played immediately after a wildcard to avoid that very problem. Building towards a GW36 bench boost is going to be a lot more troublesome than a lot of managers realise. It’s going to be very restrictive to your transfers if you don’t have a wildcard left. There is a strong case to get it played.

I currently have two doubling keepers this week, which is an absolute must on bench boost. It’s debatable who my weakest links would be who would be benched if I didn’t play the chip. If I was boosting this week, I would buy Schar and probably bench Rudiger and Robertson, although you could argue Weghorst or Schar.

I have Weghorst and Broja on doubles this week when they don’t double in GW36. If I dont bench boost this week, I will need to spend three transfers turning Weggy, Broja and De Gea into other GW36 doubles. That’s really not a great use of transfers turning them into probably Mateta, Pukki and Schmeichel. All these transfers are ones I might consider anyway but do I want to be forced into them to the exclusion of more pressing profitable ones.

And what if other injuries crop up too. That GW36 bench boost starts to look like a poisoned chalice.

On the back of four successive green arrows, there is a certain attraction of boosting now and probably making that five green arrows. Momentum is everything in this game. Especially as I know the free hitters will probably turn me red this week if I hold back.

The only frustration I have, and a crucial one, is Cucho who is probably injured. A game v Brentford as my 3rd sub on bench boost would have been acceptable. If Cucho is injured, that’s a problem.

So I can bench boost with 14 players. Or turn my -4 into -8 and replace Cucho. Neither ideal. There aren’t many Cucho replacements around my budget, if any. Not worth an extra hit.

There are added risks of course, bench boosting this week where I have a fair sprinkling of single game players. If they don’t play, the bench players disappear in auto subs, destroying the bench boost. But I fully expect Salah, Trent and Robbo to play v Man Utd, Son always plays, and both Cancelo and Rudiger don’t have European games to follow.

There is a further risk too however, in that Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City play in the FA cup this weekend, AFTER the GW33 deadline, but before their GW33 fixtures. An injury there could really crush the bench boost, especially if I am boosting already a man short.

So on balance, I will probably wait for GW36. If I bench boost in GW36, I can very likely have 13–14 doublers, maybe with just the three transfers I mentioned, I can get 14 doubles plus Mateta v Watford, assuming Cucho is available by then.

And of course, if I bench boost in GW36 when virtually everyone doubles, there is less chance of rotation whipping points away in auto subs. That’s a big plus.

My GW33 team:

Captaincy will be interesting. I can go Son or Salah in a single game. Or I can go for two bites of the cherry with Maddison or Saka. It’s a tough one !!! If I get Maddison, he probably would get my armband. I remember playing captain on Salah recently in one game during a double gameweek and being punished by double gameweek captains. Son is first up too so it’s a long gameweek if he misses out and other captains then get to play twice after.

I am quite looking forward to triple Liverpool v Man Utd when many free hitters will be leaving them out. Remember Salah scored a hat trick in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford. More of the same please Mo.

If I don’t bench boost, I will likely sit my Digne replacement on the bench, with Rudiger, and play my two double gameweek strikers, even though neither can hit a barn door. At least they meet in the final game of the gameweek, which keeps the hope alive. It worked well with Richarlison on his double after all.

Transfers will likely be Raphinha to Maddison , plus Digne to another defender. To be confirmed.

The bench boost still remains a possibility. If I did play it, I would bring in the doubling Schar this week instead of a GW36 doubler.

I will update my moves on my Twitter account, at least an hour before the Saturday deadline.

Good luck everyone !!!

GW32 Review

Points 73 which rose me from 19.6k to 16.5k.

It was a week where the green arrow was purely due to Son captain with only some minor returns elsewhere. My 2 free transfers of Robertson to Tarkowski and Moutinho to Maddison paid off albeit minorly and means I have Tarkowski as an extra doubler this week and Maddison for all the extra games Leicester have.

GW33 Preview

I have only Bench Boost left which I’m still planning for GW36. I need to ensure my transfers aren’t taking away from this and after this week I will want to remove Broja and Weghorst for doubling players so rolling and having 2 free transfers next could be valuable.

This means I’m expecting a small rank hit from all the free hitters this week as I can’t make defensive moves to cover. I’m actually in reasonable shape fixtures wise with 6 doublers although 2 are Burnley players who have been disappointing. I don’t have any united assets and they will be popular with Norwich part of their double, as will Newcastle defenders an extra Leicester attackers I expect so will need a bit of luck here to avoid too much pain.

I do have an issue with Doherty who has picked up an injury which isn’t short term. I have Rudiger as first sub though and Gallagher second sub so it’s not a must transfer now (albeit I have exact funds to get James who i’ll want). I’m expecting him to play in the FA cup game which means a risk of rotation in the game that matters for FPL.

So likely rolling the transfer but if I’m still priced in by the deadline I may opt to do Doherty to James.

Captain is a dilemma. It’s on Salah currently but with a tough FA cup game vs City this brings about some risk (although we remember what he did in the reverse fixture vs united). Son is an option vs Brighton and Maddison for the double too. I’ll make my mind up closer to the deadline.

Good luck all
