Fantasy premier league team tips GW5 – FFGeek contributor’s teams part 2

This is part 2 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Following 58 points in GW4, I was left in a solid position of 308k heading into this campaign’s first international break which provided an opportunity to reflect on the season so far and how I feel about my team. Looking at it, I feel that it is in decent shape and there is no need to be pressing that wildcard button yet. In fact, I am hoping to be rolling the transfer this week, though that is dependent on the fitness of Walker-Peters. If there is bad news about his prospects, then I will take the opportunity to transfer him out for either Lundstram to save some cash or Otamendi as City defensive coverage.

However, I am hopeful that he will be starting so instead I will roll the transfer and line-up in an unconventional 5-4-1 to rely on another Liverpool clean sheet along with Montoya & KWP finally returning some points. The two transfers and 1.5mil ITB will provide flexibility next gameweek and I can look to change-up my team, likely by bringing in an additional striker alongside Pukki.

The big decision this week is captaincy and it is a very tricky one with both City & Liverpool having promising fixtures along with the slight worry about their upcoming European games. The defensive crisis at Norwich has me leaning towards Sterling over Salah while it also seems Newcastle are more likely to park the bus. With Kane and Aubameyang also having good fixtures, I have a feeling that our captain’s performance is going to be crucial this weekend. A poor showing from Sterling could have a dramatic effect on my rank so hopefully he does the business on Saturday evening!

All the best to everyone this weekend and may your arrows be green!

Chris Tucker

Chris’s last 2 seasons overall rank were 17k and 1k

GW4 points: 57 -4 (average 57) Total points 256 Gameweek rank 3,179k, Overall Rank: 152k, red arrow 96k, Team Value: £100.7m

I’m considering holding my transfer this week since there aren’t really any pressing issues in my team.

If I do make a change, it will be either Ryan to Pope or Wilson to Haller. I do wonder whether both can wait a week. Both current players have the advantage of home games. Additionally there is the benefit of having one more week to assess Barnes as an alternative to Haller.

That’s a decision for Saturday morning!

I’ve got the armband on Sterling at the moment, remembering his away haul against another poor defence in West Ham. But I can’t rule out a last minute change to Salah.

Andrew Whitfield

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 6k last season and 19k in 17/18

GW4 points: 46 (average 57) Total points 233 Gameweek rank 5,164k, Overall Rank: 895k, red arrow 563k, Team Value: £100.6m

Is it me or do these international breaks get longer and longer. Some people enjoy their international football. Personally I much prefer club football , following my beloved Barnsley, plus the Premier league. I love the big tournaments but the qualifying groups don’t excite me. I just see the International games as an unwelcome distraction. At least the England games have been eventful. So I can’t wait to get going again !!!!

I already submitted my GW4 review last week but in summary – 46 points against an average 57, a red arrow and drop in rank from 332k to 895k so not a week to remember. But overall rank is incredibly close. An extra 20 points would have me under 200k OR.

I got two big calls wrong. I trusted Perez after three blanks and he was an unused sub, I trusted Greenwood to fill Martials boots and he got 10 Mins. So with my captain Sterling blanking, it was always going to be a struggle. I also toyed with getting De Bruyne in and didn’t which cost me more points.

I went early to get De Bruyne in and Perez out !! De Bruyne is as close to essential as it gets right now !! I got him in for the flagged Martial. I ditched Perez and brought in Cantwell . The prices have moved multiple times over two weeks so I have saved a tidy amount by going early. That’s also meant I have been sweating on injuries for two weeks !! Unless anything comes out in the last 24 hours, I could well have “got away with it” !!! I knew I had my wildcard in my back pocket in case injuries intervened, but with my two free changes, I feel I can hold the wildcard for now. I am very happy with my team.

The only two things I would possibly change are Pope in for Ryan and Barnes in for King. But happy to leave it this week. King is at home and I can look to bring Barnes in v Norwich next week for a great run of fixtures. I have 0.6M in the bank.

The fixtures look very tasty this weekend for Liverpool and City. As someone who has kept the faith in double Liverpool defence, I am hopeful of a double clean sheet and for Trent and Robbo to bring in some attacking returns too. Throw in Salah as captain and it’s an opening game of the weekend with plenty riding on it. I am very mindful of the way Newcastle shut out Kane and spurs but I expect my two full backs to be camped in the opposition third, firing in the crosses.

Man City at Norwich is arguably a better fixture as Man City can’t stop scoring and Norwich can’t defend !! But Sterling had two full international games. There is the chance of a rest with champions league midweek to follow, but more likely that his minutes will be managed and he could well be replaced from 60 mins if the job is done.. that swings the captaincy to Salah.

I am hoping for a better week with a triple up on Liverpool and city in those two fixtures. It should make for good viewing with the games both live on tv, wedged either side of the 3pm kick offs.

Lundstram is preferred to Cantwell this week due to fixtures, which means five at the back. Salah captain . Always a chance Pukki can nick one so he gets his place in a 532.

It’s interesting now that Agüero is firing, Kane has a great fixture and has the confidence boost of an international hat trick, Aubameyang has some incredible fixtures coming up. You cant own more than three premiums so hoping I have the right ones in Salah Sterling and KDB. A lot of hiding behind sofas when the “other” premiums you don’t own are in action..

Here’s hoping for green arrows !!!

Transfer summary:  De Bruyne and Cantwell in.  Perez and Martial out

Alex Ball

Alex’s last 5 seasons overall rank were 523k, 17k, 10k, 28k and 3k

GW4 points: 57 -4 (average 57) Total points 220 Gameweek rank 3,179k, Overall Rank: 1,725k, red arrow 424k, Team Value: £101.6m

57-4 and a red arrow. Returns from Mane, Haller and VVD kept the score respectable. I’m still not happy with my WC team but another -4 will set me up well. The plan is part conventional, part unconventional. So Wan Bissaka to Alexander Arnold makes sense most would agree. The other is Mount to David Silva which is a little out of the box. The reason for it is allowing me to have a differential in David Silva who has passed the eye test for me. Having only two City spots taken and cash ITB allows it to happen easily. And I’ll like looking at my team again. Sterling Capo. Good luck all.

transfer summary:  Wan Bissaka out and Alexander Arnold in plus Mount out and David Silva in -4 points

Here’s the team before the transfers are made:

Costas Chari

Costas’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 84k, 29k and 27k

GW4 points: 47 -4 (average 57) Total points 224 Gameweek rank 5,121k, Overall Rank: 1,479k, red arrow 932k, Team Value: £100.6m

The International Break is finally over! Due to a slow start (as always) I have been changing my team constantly trying to figure out a way to make ground. I did not want to use my wildcard just yet as I already own 4 of the 5 highest scoring players (Salah, Sterling, De Bruyne, Pukki- don’t own Aguero)

I made 3 changes (took 8 point hit)

Martial and Trossard out for Mc Ginn and Son. Both players out are flagged. I am sure they will come in my team soon again but know it is the time to change them. McGinn and Son have great fixtures and low ownership so if they perform well I can recover ground and also get a price rise (with this crazy market this year)

In order to make funds I downgraded Wan Bissaka who is also flagged (i don’t think he would have missed his int call if it wasn’t something serious) to Kelly who has 2 good home fixtures after GW5.

I am now left with a mediocre defence in Van Dijk, Zinchenko, Rico, Lundstram and Kelly. Lundstram will play this week home to Southampton and hopefully Kelly can play GW6 & 7. GW9 will probably be my wildcard. Lets hope Mendy stays unfit 🤔

Captain- Salah. I am afraid that Sterling and De Bruyne will not get a 90 min game. I could have gone for Son but Salah is the safe pick.

Good luck

transfer summary: Martial, Trossard and Wan Bissaka out for McGinn, Son and Kelly

Stephen Troop

Stephen’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 43k, 52k and 64k

GW4 points: 53 -4 (average 57) Total points 233 Gameweek rank 3,984k, Overall Rank: 922k, red arrow 492k, Team Value: £100.4m

Well what a disaster of a gameweek. I am having a big sense of de ja vu to last season and after a pretty positive first 2 weeks with only a couple of issues to resolve, followed by making the wrong transfers and end up falling behind. In this case after I transferred in Martial for Fraser and AWB for Van Dijk with my first 2 transfers in GW3. I’ve instantly had to transfer Martial back out due to his injury. I also had to get Pukki in otherwise his price rises would have meant not being able to get him in and I had had enough of King. So my transfers last week were I got in Mount and Pukki for King and Martial for a -4. This didn’t pay off (although didn’t lose out really either) as both blanked. In addition to the Sterling captain blank I ended up with a bad score with only Vardy rescuing me from a total disaster. KDB, Aguero, Haller, TAA are all players others have punishing me.

I was tempted to wildcard this week to bring in additional attacking coverage from City and fund this via a Vardy downgrade to Barnes/Haller. I’d also be able to get TAA in as Robertson currently isn’t keeping pace but it just didn’t feel enough issues to need a wildcard yet.

I’m therefore likely holding a transfer this week provided Trossard will play. I considered removing Vardy as he now has 3 tricky fixtures before they turn for the better but he has done me so well I will have to hold on. He could be a season keeper and if so is a great differential for me. The problem is the abundance of cheap striker options vs cheap midfield options so far this season.

I also have AWB who I no longer really want after seeing united’s recent performance. In fact Lundstram is playing for me this week instead of AWB. However Liverpool’s fixtures are quite tricky after this week so I don’t want to go straight back to the double up.

Therefore, my plan provided Trossard doesn’t play is to save the FT and then have 2 FT next week to do Wan Bissaka to a 4.5m defender and upgrade Wickham to Barnes. I have 0.3m to spare if I did this now so hopefully prices won’t change that much. If Trossard is out, then an upgrade to Lanzini seems most likely.

Captain Sterling, although I have high hopes for both Salah and Sterling this week (although I’ve picked the wrong one every week so far!).

Good luck all
