Introduction

This is part 4 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It won’t cover transfers in real time either. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.  The teams are shown as their “final-ish” teams so they could change.  Where they have twitter accounts I have shown this and they may update them there or on our Slack Channel which is part of our subscription Patreon site but this is not guaranteed

Andrew Pratt

Andrew finished with an overall rank of 313k last 8k in 18/19 and 1k in 17/18

GW5 points: 94 on WC (FPL average 60), Total points: 333, Overall Rank: 165k,  green arrow: 520k,  Team Value: £100.3m

Andrew has used his first wildcard

The first part of this note was given before the James Rodriguez injury news

My final wildcard tweaks saw

– Klich dropped for McGinn (who I feel is a better option at that price but takes my
complement of Villa players to 3 so I’m gambling on not needing Grealish),

– Mitchell (likely to lose his place and in an unexciting team anyway) out for Walker-Peters (a
more attacking if similarly pretty unexciting asset) and

– Justin (Leicester injuries) out for Dallas (admittedly slightly punty although I don’t see him in
my starting 11 very often).

I was quite annoyed at the rare disclosure about de Bruyne being out as this probably pushed many
into wildcarding or at least towards Son, which blunted the advantage of those with pre-planned
wildcards. Although Werner and Wan-Bissaka chose this week to punish me for finally losing belief in
them, my wildcard went well. As with the departed Antonio and Digne, I can see Werner coming
back into my team at some point.

Since my team must now survive without major surgery for some time, I plan to stay reasonably
template for the time being. The trick is in staying current as new bandwagons arise.

Barring major injury issues I’ll hold over the transfer this gameweek. Salah or Kane for captain, I can’t
call it right now.

Late note:  I’m currently puzzling over whether to swap Rodriguez for Zaha or stay the course in the slight hope Ancelotti is just returning fire for the Van Dijk fallout and that Rodriguez actually plays. Rodriguez managed to play the full 90 minutes in gameweek 5 so I doubt the injury is serious and I think there’s a chance he features this week. My bench isn’t too bad without him but Zaha against Fulham is tempting as a short term fix, although I don’t generally like him as an FPL asset. I think it’ll be a gut feeling decision closer to deadline but I hope I resist the urge to bring in Zaha.

Transfer summary:  probably carrying over the free transfer unless do Rodriguez out Zaha in

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 4 seasons overall ranks were 29k, 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW5 points: 82 on WC (FPL average 60), Total points: 311, Overall Rank: 533k,  green arrow: 549k,  Team Value: £100.8m

Rick has used his first wildcard

The first part of this note was given before the James Rodriguez injury news

A strong week for me, which is exactly what you want after a Wildcard. 7 returners, including a high-scoring captain, gave a me a solid rise in rank. Even the players that blanked passed the eye-test, so I feel I’m in a good place and have largely avoided any form of Wildcard regret.

Issues

Admittedly, I have a niggling worry about Alexander-Arnold. Not only are there questions to be asked about the Liverpool defence sans Van Dijk and Allison, but he isn’t getting as far forward as Robertson. That said, while Robertson is looking the more dangerous for a bit less cash, Trent was fingertips away from scoring from a free kick and was also close to an assist. He could have easily got 10-12 points and, with more than double the ownership of Robertson, you’re going to feel Trent’s points more if you miss out on them. With a goal-shy Sheffield up next I see no reason to waste a transfer on a move, but next week’s match will see me seriously re-evaluate which, if any, Liverpool defender I want to continue with.

When I picked Mitchell on Wildcard I was hoping for a few more weeks before he became bench fodder, but with PVA now waiting in the wings his time could be far more limited than that. It’s frustrating, but I think I’ll play him this week just in case he gets a start against Fulham. Many are trading in for Kilman, but I’m equally unconvinced by his security until I see him playing alongside Marcal.

Looking ahead

Bruno delivered a haul despite missing a penalty, which is annoying as I moved him out as part of my Wildcard and, predictably, Werner decided to step up just as the majority of his early adopters got rid. These two are on my watch list along with Aguero, Bale, De Bruyne and a few others. As is so often said in this game, you can’t have everyone, so I’ll be making tough decisions and solid plans over the coming weeks to prepare for GW9/10 when the Manchester teams see some great fixtures.

Transfer

Unless an injury or COVID case forces my hand, I’ll be rolling my transfer this week. My team looks good and with no Wildcard, an unpredictable environment, and some premium players on the horizon that will require multiple moves to secure, I need to hold transfers when I can.

Captain

It’ll likely be Salah. Kane vice.

Late note:

With the Rodriguez injury I think I’m happy to wait it out. He played for a long time after the incident that caused the issue and Everton still have a couple of days until the match. I’ll play him anyway, just in case there’s a miraculous recovery, and I’ll have Bissouma off the bench if he misses out. Hopefully it’ll be one week max.

I’m also playing Mitchell who could miss out as well, but I’ll have Walker-Peters or Dallas ready to step in. I just hope there aren’t too many other surprises.

Transfer summary:  Carrying over a free transfer

Catching up on what happened in previous gameweeks

GW 4 review

I had dropped down to 2.4m OR in GW3, which I think is my lowest rank in the
last 9 seasons. My FPL team had 7 players from 3 main teams: Chelsea, Everton
and Wolves. So, if they do well, I do well and if they don’t I don’t.

Transfer

In GW 4 I held my transfer

Team Review

Coady (6) and Saiss (8) did well as Wolves kept a clean sheet. Everton
continued their fine early season from with both Rodriguez (18) and DCL (6)
returning.

Havertz (6) got an assist. My captain KDB blanked. McCarthy (9) picked up a
clean sheet and bonus. All in all, a green arrow of 700K

GW 5

Transfers

I lost patience with my Chelsea players and swapped them for Kane and Son.
KDB’s injury meant I had to take a 4-point hit to get Salah in. I had been
planning to do this in GW6 anyway. I made the transfers early to pick extra
team value.

So now I had double ups in Everton and Liverpool and triple ups in Spurs and
Wolves. My rank will fluctuate wildly according to when these four teams are
playing. This GW, by Saturday night I had dropped to 2.3m but by Monday I
had risen to just outside 1m.

Team Review

The Merseyside Derby gave me Salah (7) DCL (6) Rodriguez and Trent (1)
Spurs were on fire with captain Son picking up a goal and assist (26) and Kane
two goals and assist (16). Wolves kept another clean sheet and Saiss (7)
was unlucky to have a goal chalked off for a marginal off side. But luck
balanced itself out with Jiménez (8) scoring a deflected goal. Coady (60 kept
the bench warm.

Taylor (5) helped keep a clean sheet for Burnley

GW6

Early Transfer

I moved early for Martinez to replace McCarthy in goal and scooped up a price
rise.

Villa look really strong at the back and have great fixtures up until GW15
whereas Southampton’s fixtures have turned and look porous at the back.
As a Pompey fan I prefer not to have Southampton players in my team. If they
are not pulling in the points, they can go.

Thoughts

I am happy how Spurs, Everton, Wolves defence and Mo are performing and
am not thinking of playing my WC for a while.

At some point I would like to move from a 433 to a 343 formation as attacking
players are racking up the points.

Wolves’ favourable fixtures are drawing to a close in GW7 about the same time
as WHU’s fixtures improve.

Creswell, Bowen, Soucek and Antonio are on my radar. Jiménez is missing
Doherty and Adama is not playing all the time. Raul may go. Coady gives a great TV interview but I shall not need double
Wolves defence soon.

Spurs fixtures turn around in GW8 and Man City’s look amazing from GW10.

Ruben Dias, Foden, Raz, KDB and Kun are likewise on my radar.
I will likely keep Son and Kane if their electric form continues.

Villa are exceeding expectations are Grealish and Barkley, who may be on
penalties, are on my radar.

Accumulating team value is an important part of my strategy. It’s risky making
early transfers especially with Covid this season. But it could pay dividends
when I come to WC. Current team value is approaching 102m

Late note:  I am playing James Rodriguez

If he doesn’t play Bissouma will come off my bench and play at home to the Baggies.
I am hoping Dier is fit. Otherwise I could have Charlie Taylor on my pitch home to Spurs.
