Introduction

Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 4 seasons overall ranks are 17k, 36k, 17k and 21k.

GW9

GW9 points: 56 on WC (FPL average 55) Total points 496, Overall Rank: 1,893k, red arrow  90k Team Value: £99.8m

I used my wildcard in this gameweek 9

Here’s the points:

A small red arrow of 90k to 1.89 million overall rank.

To get a red arrow on a wildcard is nothing short of disastrous and to only have 3 returning players, all of which are template, is really a pretty appalling gameweek.

To make matters worse it was the 2nd worst score out of all the FFGeek Contributors.  I’m also 96 points away from 50k overall rank which is a big drop from last week

It’s convention to compare your wildcard team to the previous team but I can’t really do that as I was never fixed on what my alternative transfers were but I can’t imagine it would have been good reading.

FPL Team Structure

My general strategy is to cover the template as I define it to de-risk the team and then rely on the other players in my FPL team to make overall rank gains

Regular readers may want to skip past this section but this is how I classify players in my team:

Template – 7 of the 10 top FPL Managers I follow own the player or defence.  You can see this in yesterdays 10 top FPL managers article

Template replacement – If I don’t own a template player then a player who is the designated replacement who will fight it out weekly for points

Bench – a player who will primarily  sit on the bench

Difference maker – the rest.  These will generally give you the rank boost.  Not defined by ownership so not called differentials

Transfer thoughts

1 free transfer and £1.7m in the bank

The original intention was to buy back Salah and transfer out Fernandes for him.  I have the money to do it plus £0.2m spare.  Whether Salah will be able to play is another question.  Either Salah or De Bruyne would have been my captain pick.

Unfortunately the Fulham v Everton and Man City v Spurs  game means Jamie Vardy could very well be a run away leader in the captain poll (which I will put up on Thursday morning due to Liverpools UCL match on Wednesday) and I may need to do a -4 for Ziyech and Watkins out for  a £5.5m ish midfielder and Vardy to cover it.

Even worse than a red arrow on a Wildcard is a -4 point deduction the week after.

I’m going to see how the week pans out and hope that prices don’t force a decision.

Despite my terrible start I intend to continue with my playing strategy and hope that I get a few weeks like Alex Ball did this week where you halve your overall rank like he did with an 87.  I’m not going to change things that have been successful and intend going down with my strategy ship if necessary and readjusting for next season if neceesary.

Captain thoughts

It could easily be one of Salah, Vardy (assuming one of these will be transferred in) or De Bruyne this week.  The polls will be helpful.

Lineup issues

If the team were to have no transfers I expect Watkins to play ahead of Masuaku

Here’s the team prior to any transfers being made:

Hope you had a good gameweek
