Firstly if you’re new to the site my last 3 seasons overall ranks are 36k, 17k and 21k.

Gameweek 13 review

GW13 points: 61 (FPL average 49) Total points 724, Gameweek rank 1,514k, Overall Rank: 456k, green arrow 29k, Team Value: £102.1m

Here’s the points:

So a small 29k overall rank green arrow to 724 points and an overall rank of 456k.

Considering I didn’t have Mane and Jimenez and Aubameyang only got 5 points things could have been worse.  It’s a case of park that and move on.

I was lucky with the captain pick.  I would normally go for the poll leader if he’s 39% as Vardyto the next best of around 15%  but if Aubameyang’s stats were convincing I may have been tempted.  They weren’t convincing so I stuck to my usual policy of going with a clear poll leader.

Other than that Pope, Soyuncu and De Bruyne were pleasing but there was little else to be pleased about.

Mount didn’t start at Man City as Lampard went for 4-3-3.  His midfield 3 of Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic has been incredibly effective and more importantly each bring different strengths to the table.  Lampard could bench Kovacic to play 4-2-3-1 against West Ham with Mount as the CAM but it’s no means certain.

Transfer thoughts

2 free transfers and £0.5m in the bank.

Unless something drastic happens I’ll be bringing in Mane this week.  I’ve often said I prefer Salah due to his shooting volume and penalty duties when Milner isn’t on the pitch but this niggling injury of Salah’s going into a heavy schedule for me just makes him too risky.

The only question is how I bring Mane in.

Most likely it will be a straight swap for Sterling.  I am a big Sterling fan but it is the most expedient way to get Mane in.

I could do Aubameyang to Ings and Mount to Mane as an alternative.  I have the exact funds to do it.  I think Aubameyang will go down in price tonight which will end the option even if I wanted to do it.  Liverpool play in the Champions League tomorrow which also doesn’t help.

In any case I have a problem getting rid of players with plum fixtures next irrespective of form.  I just think no matter how convinced you are about something football is a low volume unpredictable sport and Aubameyang is quality, it’s just the team, the manager and his often position that’s the problem.  With Norwich A, Brighton H and West Ham A the fixtures don’t get much better though.

Sterling has Newcastle away in GW14 which is also a fixture that ideally I wouldn’t want to take him out for.   Especially as Newcastle were so so bad last night vs Villa it was quite mind blowing. I’m banking on them being better on their own ground and hopefully without Shelvey in the team who I thought was hopeless defensively.  Unfortunately my transfer of last week in of Hayden was also terrible and I can see him losing his place giving me more of a problem for the blank GW18 which I talked about in my last weeks early FFGeek team article.

Man City’s next fixtures after that are trickier in Burnley away and Man Utd at home so I feel I can risk not having Sterling for those subsequent 2 fixtures as they are both quite tricky.   I also don’t think Sterling will be a captain favourite in any of the 3 fixtures which lessens the rank downside potential.

So to sum up I think the transfer will be Sterling to Mane and I’ll be left without the alternative option tonight anyway due to not having the cash.  However a week is a long time to cogitate so we’ll see come Friday.

Captain thoughts

I won’t be putting a poll up until Thursday morning after Liverpools Champions League match with Napoli.

The poll, as ever, will be of interest but I suspect my choice will be Mane home to Brighton.  Abraham at home to West Ham is another option as is Vardy at home to Everton.  The poll will be interesting

Lineup issues

No choice really to make.  Cantwell’s return to the Norwich team and performance against Everton when playing the defensive nightmare that is Arsenal is the only thing worth thinking about.  He did replace Buendia in the team though and can that really be something that will continue?  Buendia next to Pukki last season was their most important player but Cantwell’s performance will make him hard to be replaced.

However fixtures for my team are very good and so the only player I would even remotely consider leaving out for him is Lundstram and as we know Lundstram is a 15 pointer waiting to happen so I can’t see  him being on my FPL bench.

The team then

For the moment then think Sterling is Mane
