fantasy premier league teams GW19 – some early thoughts on the FFGeek team

Gameweek 18

GW18 points: 75 (average 55) Total points 1,088, Gameweek rank 613k, Overall Rank: 56k, green arrow 42k, Team Value: £102.8m

Here’s the points:

A good week for my FPL team.  8 returning players with the only non returners being the City trio, amazingly, and well above the minimum of 4.  3 double figure point hauls and a gameweek rank of 613k.  Lastly a 42k green arrow.  It all made the depressing Friday night start with Salah’s 12 points way less painful.

The non template scoreboard

Here’s some definitions which are also relevant to the team planner below:

Template: owned by 7 of the 10 top managers I follow or 70% of the top 10k

Template replacement player: Where I haven’t gone for a template player but have opted for a direct replacement

Bench player; Someone who’s not intended to do anything than fill the bench at minimum cost.

Non template/Differentials: The rest. These and the template replacement players will be the main players who will move you backwards or forwards. Captain choices also will play a big part.

These are the template players in my team at the moment:

Wan Bissaka, Doherty, Richarlison and Kane. The non template players are the rest. The schedule divides the remaining players into template replacement  and differentials which are the rest. It ignores players on the bench.

So I didn’t lose out to the 2 template players and my non template players saw 5 out of 7 returners.

The team planner

This schedule reflects the fact that I’ve yet to decide on my transfer

So again a pretty good set of fixtures even before any transfers and I’m not sure who at the moment I would put on the bench.

Transfer thoughts

2 free transfers and £0.3m in the bank.

So the Man Utd result and the Spurs result will open up the template even more than it is.  We will see alot more Martials, Pogba’s and Son’s introduced.  In attack there are now only 2 template players and the rest will see differences in teams and alot more volatile gameweek rank scores.

However I think one of the big decisions FPL managers will have is Sterling vs Salah.  I think very few serious managers will not have 1 and very few will have both.

On that subject one of the transfers I’m thinking of doing is Sterling out for Salah and Laporte or Fraser out for a cheap replacement.  I am a huge Sterling fan but I feel that putting Salah in rebalances the side away from being a City centric team and spreads the risk around further teams.  My only hesitation with Salah is not only about his price but also his inability to get bonus points.  When you get a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win and only get 1 bonus point then something is wrong. I can understand when Van Dijk gets the 3 bonus given he scored and a clean sheet but for Alisson to get the 2 points really says alot about how FPL values Salah.

To give you some context re Salah and bonus, despite 11 goals and 6 assists he only has 6 bonus points.  To give you some context, Torreira, Seri and Herrera have 6 bonus points.  What seems evident is that he needs 2 returns to get a bonus point.

So is Salah a problem not to own or not really.  He certainly is a problem for my stress levels.  Watching games and not owning him is not fun.  However how logical is that.

If I’m willing to ignore Salah then I could put Martial in for Fraser with again Laporte being the fall guy.  I haven’t lost my faith in the City defence coming right but he’s the only source of funds at the moment.

Aubameyang obviously is a major source of funds but I can see him staying in the team until GW29 potentially as the Arsenal fixtures with a couple of exceptions are good until then.

So it needs a bit more thought.

Lineup decisions

A bit hard to know until I do transfers.

Captain thoughts

So unless I get Salah, Kane is the natural choice I would say.  Given how the Eddie Howe defence, or lack of, cost me with Salah I might find it hard to let him do me over again.

Make sure you vote in our captain poll btw

The lineup

So lets assume that Laporte has been the sacrifice for whatever transfer I do.  Unfortunately only Christmas day to do the thinking.

The gameweek

So the gameweek is Wednesday 26 December  11.30am UK time.

Set your team now if you can in case you get distracted.

I’ll be trying to get as many articles out as I can before then but obviously it will be difficult to get contributors articles but I’ll put as many out as I get.
