fantasy premier league teams GW37 – some early thoughts on the FFGeek team

Gameweek 36

GW36 points: 103 -4 on TC (average 69) Total points 2,208, Gameweek rank 295k, Overall Rank: 41k, green arrow 10k, Team Value: £102.8m

A very fortunate 10k green arrow to go to 41k overall rank.  I’ve got Pochettino to thank for benching Vertonghen as otherwise Jota’s 12 points would have been on my bench and a red arrow would have been the result.

Benching luck

Did I make the right bench choice? When I look back at my team selection article my choice was between Jota, Doherty and Gray.  Doherty would have been the correct call and in reality a clean sheet seemed a tough call to bank on.

I think the problem with players like Doherty is they are highly owned and capable of getting a 15 pointer potentially at any time.  That makes them a temptation to play every week even though there basic bread and butter clean sheet points are mostly against you.  Wolves only have 8 clean sheets.  It’s different if it’s Alexander Arnold for example as Liverpool have a better than 50/50 chance of a clean sheet at any week but I sometimes think having an attacking defender in a non top 6 team just makes you play them unnecessarily as the 15 pointer is such a temptation

I’m not sure how to resolve this issue.  Doherty has been enormous for me so I don’t regret owning him and sometimes he’s produced attacking returns instead of a clean sheet so you don’t hear me complaining then.

Anyway I’m going to leave it unresolved in my head and just take the very fortunate break I got.

Triple captain use

The triple captain went well although the Salah points dulled the rank improvement.

I won’t be sorry to see the back of Huddersfield from an FPL point of view.  I think they did fantastic things staying up last season but I feel where we are in a 1 way transfer strategy of just following Huddersfield’s fixtures for our next transfer each week.  They’ve conceded 15 goals in their last 4 away games which makes them a fairly juicy target.

Transfer thoughts

1 transfer and £0.0m in the bank.

So following up what I said above my intention this week has been a Man Utd player for their last 2 fixtures of Huddersfield A and Cardiff at home.  For me there are only 2 realistic players of Pogba and Rashford.  Rashford however is an injury doubt which needs monitoring.   I don’t have any non -4 route to get in Rashford and the only non -4 route to get Pogba in would be Son.

Son to Pogba would be the easiest transfer to facilitate.  I’ve kept Son in as he’s pretty template but his underlying stats have been poor up until 2 of the last 3 games where they have improved.  However taking someone out who on his day can be devastating when he’s facing the Eddie Howe non defence is a place where I don’t to be.  Add to the fact that Pogba’s form is pretty atrocious and the whole idea doesn’t fill me with confidence

Otherwise I could take Gray out for Rashford if he’s fit and -4 somewhere else, say Vertonghen, for a cheap defender.  Rashford has taken a bit of a dip but still has scoring potential.

Palace also have a couple of good fixtures but I would probably just want to hope the Milivojevic penalty well hasn’t run dry and I’m not sure that’s worth the Son transfer.

So more thought needed

Lineup issues

With Deeney back and Watford playing Chelsea Gray is the natural person for the bench plus the 2 Brighton players of Stephens and Duffy who play Arsenal.

Goalkeeper I have gone for Ryan as I think there’s more save points there than with Foster plus he’s more highly owned.

Captain

The Captain poll will be of interest as always but for the moment I think Aguero.  I just can’t see Rodgers parking the bus and that should be advantageous for Man City

The team

Here’s the team.  Son could be Pogba or Gray could be Rashford and Vertonghen would go to the bench as a cheap defender.

GW37

A Friday night gameweek again so maybe set your team up in advance if you can.

This week is a tricky one for me.  I’ve got some non FPL life things getting in the way this week so my last article on Friday will be 12 mid day and there maybe less articles than usual but I’ll endeavour to do as much as possible.
