fantasy premier league teams GW37 – some early thoughts on the FFGeek team

Here’s our fantasy premier league teams GW37 article where we give our early thoughts on the FFGeek team for GW37. We look back at gameweek 36 and give our thoughts on the gameweek ahead.

fantasy premier league teams GW37 – some early thoughts on the FFGeek team

Gameweek 36

GW36 points: 103 -4 on TC (average 69) Total points 2,208, Gameweek rank 295k, Overall Rank: 41k, green arrow 10k, Team Value: £102.8m

GW36 points:

A very fortunate 10k green arrow to go to 41k overall rank.  I’ve got Pochettino to thank for benching Vertonghen as otherwise Jota’s 12 points would have been on my bench and a red arrow would have been the result.

Benching luck

Did I make the right bench choice? When I look back at my team selection article my choice was between Jota, Doherty and Gray.  Doherty would have been the correct call and in reality a clean sheet seemed a tough call to bank on.

I think the problem with players like Doherty is they are highly owned and capable of getting a 15 pointer potentially at any time.  That makes them a temptation to play every week even though there basic bread and butter clean sheet points are mostly against you.  Wolves only have 8 clean sheets.  It’s different if it’s Alexander Arnold for example as Liverpool have a better than 50/50 chance of a clean sheet at any week but I sometimes think having an attacking defender in a non top 6 team just makes you play them unnecessarily as the 15 pointer is such a temptation

I’m not sure how to resolve this issue.  Doherty has been enormous for me so I don’t regret owning him and sometimes he’s produced attacking returns instead of a clean sheet so you don’t hear me complaining then.

Anyway I’m going to leave it unresolved in my head and just take the very fortunate break I got.

Triple captain use

The triple captain went well although the Salah points dulled the rank improvement.

I won’t be sorry to see the back of Huddersfield from an FPL point of view.  I think they did fantastic things staying up last season but I feel where we are in a 1 way transfer strategy of just following Huddersfield’s fixtures for our next transfer each week.  They’ve conceded 15 goals in their last 4 away games which makes them a fairly juicy target.

Transfer thoughts

1 transfer and £0.0m in the bank.

So following up what I said above my intention this week has been a Man Utd player for their last 2 fixtures of Huddersfield A and Cardiff at home.  For me there are only 2 realistic players of Pogba and Rashford.  Rashford however is an injury doubt which needs monitoring.   I don’t have any non -4 route to get in Rashford and the only non -4 route to get Pogba in would be Son.

Son to Pogba would be the easiest transfer to facilitate.  I’ve kept Son in as he’s pretty template but his underlying stats have been poor up until 2 of the last 3 games where they have improved.  However taking someone out who on his day can be devastating when he’s facing the Eddie Howe non defence is a place where I don’t to be.  Add to the fact that Pogba’s form is pretty atrocious and the whole idea doesn’t fill me with confidence

Otherwise I could take Gray out for Rashford if he’s fit and -4 somewhere else, say Vertonghen, for a cheap defender.  Rashford has taken a bit of a dip but still has scoring potential.

Palace also have a couple of good fixtures but I would probably just want to hope the Milivojevic penalty well hasn’t run dry and I’m not sure that’s worth the Son transfer.

So more thought needed

Lineup issues

With Deeney back and Watford playing Chelsea Gray is the natural person for the bench plus the 2 Brighton players of Stephens and Duffy who play Arsenal.

Goalkeeper I have gone for Ryan as I think there’s more save points there than with Foster plus he’s more highly owned.

The Captain poll will be of interest as always but for the moment I think Aguero.  I just can’t see Rodgers parking the bus and that should be advantageous for Man City

The team

Here’s the team.  Son could be Pogba or Gray could be Rashford and Vertonghen would go to the bench as a cheap defender.

A Friday night gameweek again so maybe set your team up in advance if you can.

This week is a tricky one for me.  I’ve got some non FPL life things getting in the way this week so my last article on Friday will be 12 mid day and there maybe less articles than usual but I’ll endeavour to do as much as possible.

  1. Why not get Salah? I have similar team to you, Geek, except 2 players. I am thinking of -8. Transfer out 1 of my def + Mane + Gimenez and get cheap defender + Salah + Ings.
I believe Salah alone will get me my 8 points back, let alone Ings who has easy fixture. Salah is motivated by being Top scorer. His whole team supportive of that even Klob who didn’t rest him in last game to give him a chance to score.

I honestly want your opinion guys.

  2. Geek, do you even need to make a transfer? Look at your starting line up. They all have good fixtures bar your keeper.

  3. I am Top in my fantasy league at work (money on it), so I am matching up to the chap in second 34 points behind, started last week and I am cynically matching his players to remove any catch up potential ………

  4. Having Foster and Ryan as keeper is not ideal this week. Guita is a good move in my opinion. Since I have 1.2 ITB, I am also looking at Duffy to Digne. In the last 8 weeks he has been stellar and Everton at home to a safe Burnley seems like a cleansheet waiting to happen.

  5. Getting rid of Son might be risky as you rightly pointed out. I would either bank the FT and use it to get Rashford for GW 38 or just downgrade one of the GKs to Guaita this week. Good luck!

  6. What about one of these strategies:
-duffy to wan bissaka for the extra money, Jota to Millovejevic potentially the following week.
-roll the ft and then swap both Jiminez and Jota out the following week before they play LFC. This helps as well in case an injury happens or something in the following week.

  7. Anybody considering a punt on Lukaku for last 2 gameweeks? I have 2FT and am looking at Eriksen to a cheap bench fodder as I have Jota, Pogba, Son and Mane in midfield, and then Gray to Lukaku. United will surely s ore a few against Hudds and a probably relegated by then Cardiff.

  8. Ian, I’ve been thinking about Lukaku. Will he definitely play? Man U are not inspiring, however. I feel that if Pogba isn’t on it, they struggle. To those folk talking about getting rid of Jiménez for Liverpool game…don’t forget, Wolves love playing top six.

  9. Speculation this morning that Rashford and Lukaku might both miss the last two games through injury, which would be frustrating given United play Huddersfield and Cardiff

  10. I am planning on getting rid of Grey this week but wondering who to replace him with. I am leaning towards Calvert Lewin, but the fixtures aren’t the best, (having said that in his last 6 games he got a hit against Man U, Che and Ars but noting against CP, Fulham and West Ham).
The alternative is a Southampton player but unsure whether to go with Ings or Long, would either or both of them be secure of game time.
If I could be sure of game time I would probably go Southampton (also gives me more money for an upgrade in Wk38).

    • That is a real tough one, because you ideally need two transfers to get someone in proper.
Calvert Lewin is OK this week, but you would need to be prepared to take him back out the following week. And thus two transfers wasted.

Another idea could be to go for a defensive transfer and go 4 at the back.
Or another idea is to hold out and get two frees following week.
