Introduction

Players who are out of favour or low in the pecking order are often priced accordingly low in relation to other assets at the club as their gametime is expected to be minimal. Should those players move clubs and become first choice then they are can become viable assets and even bargains. However time is short with 16 days until the opening day so they need to get on with it. Here’s 4

Tammy Abraham – £6.5m Fwd Chelsea

Abraham started 2 games in Tuchel’s 19 game Premier League stewardship. He was subbed at half time in both.

Unsurprisingly now Abraham has been linked with the other clubs most notably Arsenal. I find this a little strange as Arsenal don’t seem to have shown any movement in getting Lacazette out and Abraham would surely just block Aubameyang from playing CF which has to be his best position. I question how certain Abraham would be as a starter.

Last season he started 12 games plus 10 as sub for 6 goals and 2 assists with a goal or assist every 128 minutes which is reasonable respectable. In 19/20 it was even better with 15 goals and 6 assists in 25 starts and 9 as sub. This was a goal or assist every 105 minutes which is very good.

Lets look at his underlying stats

Ignore the PPMs they are distorted by the sub appearances. The xG90 especially in 19/20 is absolutely excellent. He doesn’t get involved in the creative side very much but his shooting volumes are very good which is the obvious emphasis of his game.

£6.5m is a price with few options for forwards in FPL with most managers seemingly going for a player never having played in the PL in Ivan Toney of Brentford. Abraham would certainly give a proven option in this price range

Ross Barkley – £5.5m Mid Chelsea

Barkley last season didn’t even manage to hold his place at Villa on loan and looks unlikely to feature for Tuchel’s Chelsea

Last season he started 18 games plus 6 as sub for 3 goals and 2 assists at a goal or assist for a very unimpressive 313 minutes. His previous season with Chelsea hinted at more though with a goal or assist every 182 minutes.

He’s FPL friendly in that he shoots on sight and always tries to make things happen creatively. I’m not sure the resultant lack of defensive resolve and giving the ball away though endears him as much to real life Premier League managers. His underlying stats though suggest that he could be a viable asset for a price of £5.5m where there are very little viable options apart from Arsenals Smith Rowe unless you start to dip into the promoted teams.

Those underlying stats show potential for justifying a cheap price if he moves. At the moment he’s only been linked tentatively with West Ham and Newcastle. West Ham have a number of options which could make gametime problematic and Newcastle would have to continue playing the more attacking football they did towards the end of the season for him to be an option

Joe Willock – £5.5M Mid Arsenal

The Arsenal midfielder had an extremely productive loan spell at Newcastle and they are still trying to get him back. 8 goals in 11 starts plus 3 as sub including 7 consecutive games scoring was some return. He managed an impressive goal or assist every 150 minutes. Unfortunately his £6.0m price tag seems to have reflected that loan spell rather than his Arsenal prospects where surely he will be behind Saka, Smith Rowe and Pepe.

At Newcastle he was noticeable for staying upfield with Wilson for transitions. Whether that would happen now with Saint Maximin is questionable. He does have what seems like an inbuilt radar for scoring positions though which could serve him well in any sale or loan spell

Here’s his underlying stats

The 20/21 stats are good even if the volumes are very low. That could just be because of Newcastle’s low possession as one thing he doesn’t have is a desire not to shoot.

Brandon Williams £4.0m Def Man Utd

Everyone’s FPL dream is a £4.0m playing defender. Brandon Williams proposed loan to Southampton after Bertrand went to Leicester seemed to be the option FPL managers were looking for. That now seems unlikely and with Luke Shaw potentially late back and Alex Telles injured he could even start a couple of games for Man Utd.

At the moment he’s no more than a monitor but worth putting in your FPL team as long as you realise he would block an alternative 3rd Man Utd player if he doesn’t move by the end of the window on the 31st August
