fantasy premier league tips – FFGeek contributors show their GW4 teams part 1

Here’s part 1 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. It also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

Keith Spencer

Keith finished with a 3k OR last season, an incredible OR of 325 in 16/17 and 9k in 15/16. He is one of the 10 top FPL managers I follow weekly who’ve finished the last 3 seasons in the top 10k OR.

GW3 points: 37 (average 50) Total points 214, Gameweek rank 4,655k, Overall Rank: 179k, red arrow 118k, Team Value: £101.2m

I have lots of issues that I will attack next week. Probably a -4 for me next week.

Hi guys, so a second green arrow in a row and great OR for GW3 (13k) and green arrow in our FFG Contributors league (2nd place for now).  I’m far better off than last year at this point.  However I’m not feeling so great after Monday night’s match as a United fan and from an FPL perspective not owning any Spurs asset. I had a debate with my friends weather it is good to invest money to players like Moura (or Bernardo Silva), as they are second violet in premium teams or spent the same amount of money in the top players of non-top 6 team like Walcott or Maddison.  Myconclusion is that the late one is better, so after Moura performance I was little embarrassed.   Having said that, we can’t own more than 15 players, and for now most of my choices have been OK.  One of them was not to bring Arsenal template player this week (Auba or Miki), I thought that I can wait one more week, and I will do the same again.

A bit disappointing performance by Richarlison, after an extraordinary start of the season. While I was not so afraid from the price drop, I didn’t want to have a non-playing player for 2 weeks, so I made a straight swap to Walcott before price changes.

After 2 weeks with 9 returns from 11, I only got 4 returns, but at least one of them was from my Captain – Salah (unlucky to get at least one more goal), and the other one was from the Great Mitro – Player of the week, and biggest upside so far with 24 points till now (1st from all strikers and 4th in threat).  Before GW1 I wrote here that I think he will have between 10-12 goals, with 3 from 3 I hope I was wrong….

I lost 3 returns from City players, when my two defenders conceded a goal from hand ball (Boly) and Kun was without luck as he nailed two shots in the bar but was very dangerous. I am convinced they will return to return in the upcoming games.

As for Luiz and TAA, I am little worried not having Alonso and Robertson, while Alonso in each return gives me a headache, TAA was unlucky as he could have scored at least 1 goal but I am very positive on him for the next games to return offensively as well as a clean sheet (TAA please stop with your yellow cards!!)

Maddison was a bit disappointing but I will give him a little bit more time.

Gameweek 4

So as I mentioned Walcott in for Richarlison and for now I am keeping my second sub for next week to bring Miki or Alonso in if they hurt me this week.  I will at least next week bring them in without any points deduction. I really don’t know yet if I will activate WC in the international break, we will see about that…

As for the starting lineup, Stephens and Maddison will rest this week and it’s between Tomkins and Shaw (if he will keep his place in first team), so like you know, Oddschecker for me. CS odds for United 1.91 and for Palace 2.38, so it will be Shaw.

So again, for the 4TH time in a row armband will go to whoever plays at home between Salah and Kun (with excellent odds to score 1.36) – Kun it’s you again, a hat trick will be just fine like last year’s hat trick in the win 3-1 over Newcastle at the Etihad (BTW odds for an hattrick only 4.5 😊).

Good luck to you all again,

Geek note: Congratulations to Yaniv and his wife who had a baby boy earlier in the week.  Baby and mother are doing well 😊

Sergio Torija

Sergio finished with an OR of 17k last season and 21k in 16/17

GW3 points: 43 (average 50) Total points 224, Gameweek rank 3,863k, Overall Rank: 85k, red arrow 42k, Team Value: £101.5m

First poor week of the season for me, my only returns were Bertrand goal, Robertson clean sheet plus Salah captaincy. I was surprised to see a decent GW rank of 500K on Saturday, however no Alonso and Spurs cover brought me down to almost a 4million GW rank. Still within top 100K in the overall rank though, which is good at this early stage. All in all, I didn’t lose much ground to those with ‘good’ weeks who mostly scored in the fifties.

Unfortunately, Richarlison’s red meant my free transfer was gone, which I used on the straight swap to Walcott. The team is not the ideal I would like however I think it is in OK shape, so I will try to not use the wildcard during the first international break. However a terrible GW4 or additional casualties to my team would change this. The team definitely needs a revamp of defence and ideally the forward line also requires changes with one of Austin and Gray making space for Zaha at least. I can manage all this with perhaps only a hit over the next 2 or 3 gameweeks. However this plan will miss on the excellent coming fixtures for Mendy and Alonso, so I will have to hope they don’t score big otherwise improving rank will be a difficult task for me.

As for GW4 captain, this will be Aguero, no matter how many reports or leaked lineups appear without him in the team.

Good luck for GW3 Geekers !

Gameweek 3 review:

It was a very average gameweek for me this week. Only 3 players returned a goal, assist or clean sheet: Salah, Robertson and Wilson. I did get a return of 5 from Fabianski due to save and bonus points and 4 from Mendy due to 2 unexpected bonus points so they did help me creep above the average score for the week. Richarlison getting sent off was probably the worse thing to come from the gameweek but fortunately that is easily fixed.

Transfers

Ideally I wanted to save my transfer for next week but Richarlison’s red and subsequent price decrease forced my hand. Another player who has caught my eye is Alonso, three back to back double figure gameweeks is very impressive and his vastly increasing ownership is making him start to look essential. So there were 3 ways for me to approach transfers this week: Wildcard, Richarlison + Luiz > Fraser + Alonso (-4), Richarlison > Walcott.

I don’t currently have enough issues for it to be worth using my wildcard, other than a couple of players I’m quite happy with my team. I’d originally planned to use my wildcard after GW4 but I think I may even leave it for a few weeks past that now. I already have Wilson and as good as Bournemouth have been I don’t really want to double up on their attack, plus Bournemouth have Chelsea this week and I’d rather not take an unnecessary 4 point hit just to switch Chelsea defenders.

Finally, that leaves me with Richarlison straight to Walcott which is what I did. Everton still have plenty of great fixtures left and Walcott has looked dangerous the last couple of games so it seemed like the most sensible and logical option, especially with them having Huddersfield at home next.

Captain

Captain for this week will most likely be Salah. Aguero is tempting but after watching the way Newcastle played against Chelsea I’d be very surprised to see Man City score too many against them. However, Aguero did score a hatrick last time he played Newcastle at home so that is something to consider. Salah score 3 of the 5 goals Liverpool scored against Leicester last season, they really struggled to handle him. With Vardy also being banned it makes Leicesters counter attack threat far less worrysome which should help Liverpool attack far more freely without worrying as much about potential counter attacks.
