Introduction

This is part 3 of the FPL managers who contribute to the FFGeek site with good histories who show their teams each week. This will give people a feel for what other managers are doing. It’s a fairly informal thing with no obligation on anyone and these teams may change at anytime before the deadline without further notice. In the future it also wont cover early transfers. It’s just to give an idea of the trends for the week no more.

See the part 1 contributors article and the Contributors Free Hit team drafts

In this article you’ll see people referring to Leaked team news.  A twitter account called FPL scarface is saying it will leak team news of the Man City lineup.  If you use this yu do it at your own risk.  I am not advocating or recommending it

Rick Porter

Rick’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 1k, 30k and 2k.

GW37+ points: 82  (FPL average 53) Total points 2,252, Overall Rank: 29k, green arrow 14k, Team Value: £105.2m

With almost a full rack of returns and a mammoth 43 points from my defence alone, I clearly have no room to complain… but if only I’d captained literally anyone else but Fernandes!

I’m now tucked up inside the top 30k, which I’m happy with considering I was just outside 100k before lockdown.

Gameweek 38

With lots of chips undoubtedly being played in the final week, anything could happen rank-wise. However, one of the big fixtures that may influence things is Man City against a dilapidated and demotivated Norwich side. It has all the hallmarks of a goal-fest and it’s just a case of whether or not you own the assets doing the scoring or the ones sitting on the sidelines. I only have two Man City players (when a triple up will be popular) and, knowing the minutes played recently, I’m assuming it’s Foden’s turn to start on the bench. Those things considered, I’m probably a few steps behind where I should be – something I’ll have to address when it comes to my transfers this week.

Transfer

I brought in Pieters last week rather than a more expensive Burnley defender specifically so I had the cash to switch Foden for D. Silva this week. Turns out Pieters was the better option anyway. Sometimes you just get lucky. Like most, I still think Silva is a surefire starter this week so that’s still my planned change. I’ll be waiting for any potential early team news before I commit, but I have the exact money needed to make the trade at the moment so hopefully he won’t rise again before Sunday.

Leaked Info

Speaking of early team news. If there is any it could well influence my changes. With De Bruyne eyeing up the assist record and Silva playing his last PL match for the team, I’d be confident with those two City assets if there was no leak. However, I’m a comfy 48 points ahead of second place in my main cash mini league so, while nothing is ever certain in this game, I feel I can risk a hit to help me improve/protect my overall rank if the opportunity arises. Sterling looks to be the biggest threat, so if there’s a reliable leak that confirms him as starting then I may spend points to bring him in. Exactly how I’d get him depends on what the leaked team sheet reveals, but it’ll likely end up costing me Fernandes or Salah on top of the points hit so, personally, I hope he doesn’t play so I can stick to my original plan.

In this scenario Sterling would probably also be my captain to maximise the points potential from the hit.

Captain

If there’s no early team news then it’ll be D. Silva. Vice Ings. I’ll go with Sterling if I end up with him in the team.

Bench

Lascelles is a given, but outside of that I have tougher decisions to make. Again, early team news might change things but I’ll likely bench Doherty and Calvert-Lewin.

Transfer summary:  To be confirmed.  Likely to be David Silva or  Sterling in and Fernandes or Salah out

Here’s the team with a David Silva transfer taking place.

Chris Tucker

Chris’s last 2 seasons overall rank were 17k and 1k

I am going to wait until the last minute to action transfers, hoping to react to any early team news or leaked line-ups – in particular, in relation to Man City. My priority, assuming he plays, is to bring in Sterling and in all likelihood captain him.

Much like the Geek, I have planned for different City permutations. I currently have De Bruyne, David Silva and Foden.

Although there is no predicting Pep, I think the most likely scenario is that Foden is benched, whilst the other two start along with Sterling. My thinking as to what I would do in such a situation has evolved. Initially, I thought about making a straight swap from De Bruyne to Sterling and I have the spare funds to do this. In favour of this move is that I would not need to incur a hit but would bring in the captain favourite for the gameweek. However, the downside being that I would only have two City attacking players for what seems an absolute gem of a fixture. Also, De Bruyne may be playing slightly deeper, but he is still capable of delivering a double digit score, and this would inevitably cause significant rank damage given his ownership. I should add that this would be my move in the event that news leaks that De Bruyne is rested but Sterling plays.

So my mind turned to how to keep De Bruyne and perhaps, somehow, change my third City midfielder from Foden into Sterling. Well, I could remove Salah for Sterling and then, for a hit, turn Foden into a Pulisic or Antonio. I still might go with this if there is any whiff of Salah not starting against Newcastle. But taking a hit to remove Salah just doesn’t sit easy with me, and so I’ve had to look elsewhere.

In the end, I arrived at turning Fernandes into Sterling and Foden into a £4.2 bench fodder, probably Douglas Luiz. With Fernandes’ popularity, I know this is quite risky in itself, but I do like having the power midfield of Sterling, De Bruyne, David Silva and Salah. And with my cash mini leagues pretty much sewn up, I am prepared to have a bit of fun this week and take a punt.

Captain will be Sterling, subject to any news that he does not start. That said, I do think the smart move may be David Silva, who I am sure will be given penalties and direct free kick responsibility.

In the picture below, imagine Fernandes is Sterling and Foden is Douglas Luiz.

Finally, I just want to take the opportunity to thank the Geek for all his hard work this past year in running the site and for giving me the opportunity to contribute: I have really enjoyed my first season with the FFG team!

Best of luck to you all.

I write this on Saturday having hoped the Friday press conferences would help shape my transfer, but sadly not. They’ve confirmed Charlie Taylor is out injured which is helpful as I won’t have to worry about him starting ahead of Pieters who I also own.

My gw37 score of 80 was good and I’m now back in the top 50k. Having decided to get Fernandes into my team, since a brief appearance in my gw31 FH team, he scored one point compared to the eight of the benched Foden – if only I’d resisted the temptation and saved that transfer! Having made the effort for Fernandes I plan to keep him despite his off colour performance against West Ham.

I’m now sat with 1 FT and 0.4 in the bank. The main issue with my team is my three city of KDB, Jesus and Foden are different to the favoured three of Sterling, Mahrez and Dilva. Like many I’m hoping for a city team leak. I’ve set out below my thoughts, but as you can see it’s not certain and I don’t think that is going to change much as we head towards Sunday!

Transfer summaries

No leak

The safe move is a bench cover move switching the injured Taylor to Stephens, Bardsley, Braithwaite or Diop.

I’m also considering Doherty to Aurier; or for a -4 replacing Foden with Dilva and Doherty to a 4.6 defender (Lundstram?!)

If a leak

Lots of combinations for the City line-up, which unless all three start (just switch a defender) I’ll likely take a minus 4….

If Foden or Foden and Jesus benched as above I’ll switch to D Silva.

If De Bruyne or De Bruyne and Jesus benched, assuming he’s starting, I plan to go Sterling for -4, along with Doherty to Aurier. If somehow he’s not then De Bruyne straight to D Silva.

Another meh week for my team as the season continues to fizzle out. I took a minus 4 to bring in Wood and Martial for Giroud and Pulisic – again I should have left it as it was (though I would have benched one of the 2 probably so it kind of balanced off.) It’s a rare week you’ll get 8/11 returns and not get a green arrow, but captaining my lowest scoring player in Bruno was ultimately the reason why.

It’s kind of been the story of my team post restart – 50k lost mainly due to a couple of bad decisions and several 50/50s that have gone wrong, but hey ho such is the way of things and I’ll take it on the chin and move on. I’ve not much to play for this week now – I should beat my OR from last season and I’m 80 odd points ahead in my 2 main mini-leagues so barring an absolute catastrophe, I’m sitting comfortable here. So my aim with 1 more week to go is to hopefully finish with a green arrow and at least stay within the top 100k, but also to enjoy the games as well. It’s nicely poised at both end of the table so it should be a fun couple of hours to watch in Sunday.

GW38+ Team

As I alluded to on the Pod with Geek this week, I’ve no idea what I’m going to do! Much hinges on possibly getting a leak on the City team pre-deadline as their home fixture versus Norwich looks a good one to target this week. A couple of small worries for me on this I guess. First of all, Norwich actually beat City in the reverse earlier in the season – you could look at this both ways though in that City will be gunning for revenge! Next up, Norwich have tightened up a bit in the last couple of games…well I say that in that they’ve not conceded so many but they’re still shipping big chances so maybe that isn’t what it seems! The biggest worry though is that City were given 2 days off in midweek – are they already ‘on the beach’ so to speak or will they take it easier in this game to save themselves for the UCL next month? Who knows!

Then there’s Pep Roulette. Who will play and how much gametime will they get? My ideal City 3 looking at this week and who’s played the last few would be Sterling, D Silva and Mahrez. Guess who’s in my team? De Bruyne, Jesus and Foden! Problems here then. So I’ve got a few ideas as to what I can do, but it will probably involve a -4 to bring 1 or 2 of my preferred options in. Sterling is the tricky one for me as he’s out of reach on one move, but he’s in the best form and is a heavy captain favourite in the polls. If De Bruyne doesn’t play though he becomes a more feasible shout, but I could also cover him to degree by bringing in either Mahrez or D Silva and captaining them or De Bruyne if he plays – someone has to lay on the points for Raheem after all!

The other players who interest me come from Spurs. Sure, they haven’t set the world on fire since the restart and they don’t create a great number of big chances but they face a Palace team in dire form who are crippled with injuries at the back so someone like Kane, Son or even Moura could have a fun final day here. Liverpool could also score big this week – similar situation to Spurs; away fixture against a team riddled with defensive call-offs – could Salah do what his xG has threatened to do in the last couple of weeks and rack up a haul? Again there’s mutterings though that there might be mass rotation in this game too, though there’s no Pool players needing an extra appearance for a winner’s medal now.

So my current thinking is if we get a City leak, I’ll try and find a way to work in one of Sterling, D Silva or Mahrez using either Foden, De Bruyne and/or Bruno as the transfers out. The tricky decision will be if Jesus is benched – Kane is a step up in price and would then leave me scratching around with only 2 City players, one of whom would be Foden. As for Captain this week, it will probably be a City asset. My transfers and line-up though won’t be confirmed to fairly close to the deadline – I’ll post on Twitter when I’ve confirmed.

All the best for the last gameweek everyone – thank you so much for reading my ramblings this season and I wish you the best of luck for this final week and will see you when we go again in September!

Mikael’s last 3 seasons overall rank were 12k, 100k and 5k

Here is my FH team.

I’m chasing my ML leader who is 24 p ahead, but has no FH. He has 3 x Man U and 3 x Liverpool and only 1 transfer, so I hope I can beat him with this team.

Good Luck to you and I’m looking forward to next season. (Hope the pod comes to iTunes)

Cheers Mikael
