fantasy premier league transfer tips GW12 – Analysing the teams of 10 top FPL managers

Fantasy Premier League, top 10 FPL managers

Here’s our fantasy premier league transfer tips GW12 article where we analyse the teams of 10 top FPL managers. These 10 managers have not finished outside the overall rank of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection.

Introduction

The criteria I’ve always been looking for is managers who’ve finished in the top 10k for the last 3 years when FPL has become considerably harder due to the amount of people playing and the information available.

The 10 managers stats

I’ve given the identities and FPL IDs of the 10 FPL managers in the FFGeek Patreon site

It includes our very own Yaniv Salomon who you can follow on twitter here

These managers are incredible and every bit as impressive as last season.

1. The overall average finishing overall rank of the top 10 managers in the last 3 seasons is 3,860

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons (ie 30 times playing)

3. 7 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000 in the last 3 seasons

4. 1 of the 10 have finished in the top 100 in the last 3 seasons

Their basic stats after Sunday GW11

There were 6 green arrows and 4 red arrows

The average points score in GW11 after Sunday was 66.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers was 468k. That’s 117k better than last weeks average of 585k

The median overall rank was 179k

The average total points are 679

The average team value was £103.4m.

The combined total of individual players

I’ve generally only included where there is a minimum of a player in 3 out of the 10 FPL managers teams

No other player was transferred out more than once

9 managers have used their wildcards to date.  1 has used his triple captain chip

No managers used their wildcard in this gameweek.

The top 10k overall rank vs the 10 FPL managers

Here’s a comparison between the top 10k overall rank ownership % and the 10 top FPL managers.  You can see there are huge differences in the 3rd column so plenty of places to make ground.

fantasy premier league transfer tips GW12

The top 10 managers favour Martinez, Dallas, Robertson, De Bruyne and Lamptey far more strongly than the top 10k

The top 10k favour McCarthy,  Kane, Zouma and Salah more

The template

I use the 10 managers as a proxy for serious managers teams and have a basic rule of thumb that if 7 of the 10 managers have a player or a team defence then I will seriously consider getting that player .

Here’s the template on that basis. The difficulty with tracking the template is that you’re 1 game behind it as you obviously can’t see what their transfers are leading up to the gameweek opening.

Villa defence – Martinez

Chelsea defence – Chilwell

Fernandes

Grealish

Son

De Bruyne

Calvert Lewin

That’s 6 players.

The Brighton defence is also represented 8 times but will be on the FPL bench often so could be excused from the template.  Salah playing Fulham next week may come back into the template the question is how?

One managers team

fantasy premier league transfer tips GW12

This manager scored 83 points this week.  His total points are 711 and his overall rank is 48k.  He didn’t make a transfer this week.  His team value is £104.2m

His last 3 seasons overall ranks are 9k, top 500 and 2k.

You can see he has the full template above.

The combined 10 top FPL managers teams

Here’s a team which tries to make a combination from the most represented players. Please note that it is meant to be a menu of players to help you choose your transfer rather than a realistic team and it’s value is not necessarily achievable.  This week it is definitely not achievable at £107.5m
