fantasy premier league transfer tips GW29 – Analysing the teams of 10 top FPL managers

Fantasy Premier League, top 10 FPL managers

Here’s our fantasy premier league transfer tips GW29 article  where we analyse the teams of 10 top FPL managers. These 10 managers have not finished outside the overall rank of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection.

Introduction

The criteria I’ve always been looking for is managers who’ve finished in the top 10k for the last 3 years when FPL has become considerably harder due to the amount of people playing and the information available.

The 10 managers stats

I’ve given the identities and FPL IDs of the 10 FPL managers in the FFGeek Patreon site

It includes our very own Yaniv Salomon who you can follow on twitter here

These managers are incredible and every bit as impressive as last season.

1. The overall average finishing overall rank of the top 10 managers in the last 3 seasons is 3,860

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons (ie 30 times playing)

3. 7 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000 in the last 3 seasons

4. 1 of the 10 have finished in the top 100 in the last 3 seasons

Their basic stats after GW28 Sunday

There were 3 green arrows and 7 red arrows

The average points score in GW28 after Sunday was 40 net of point deductions for extra transfers. There’s still Mondays game to come and a number of managers have Salah as captain.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers is 39k.

The median overall rank was 10k

The average total points are 1,871.

The average team value was £106.3m.

The top 10k overall rank vs the 10 FPL managers

Here’s a comparison between the top 10k overall rank ownership % and the 10 top FPL managers.

fantasy premier league transfer tips GW29

The 10 top managers favour (>30%) Dias, Digne and Salah more than the top 10k

The top 10k favour (>20%) Targett more than the 10 top FPL managers

The template

I use the 10 managers as a proxy for serious managers teams and have a basic rule of thumb that if 7 of the 10 managers have a player or a team defence then I will seriously consider getting that player .

Here’s the template on that basis. The difficulty with tracking the template is that you’re 1 game behind it as you obviously can’t see what their transfers are leading up to the gameweek opening.

Villa defence – Martinez

Leeds defence – Dallas

Man City defence – Dias and Cancelo

Salah

Fernandes

Gundogan

Son

Raphinha

Kane

That’s 10 players if you include 2 City defenders.  The template is strong at the moment.

The big blank GW29 may shake things up a bit

One managers team

Here’s the 2nd top gameweek point scoring manager so far this week:

fantasy premier league transfer tips GW29

His score after Sundays games was 45. His total points are 1872 and his overall rank is 12k. His team value is £105.9m. His last 3 seasons ranks are 2k, 7k and top 500. He has used his Free Hit, Triple captain and Bench Boost chips. Therefore he only has his 2nd wildcard to play.  He has 9 of the 10 template players mentioned above.  He doesn’t have Fernandes.

For the 4 fixture big blank GW29 he has Martinez, Son, Raphinha, Kane, Watkins, Konsa, Dallas and Lookman.  That’s 8 players plus 2 transfers to make 10 for GW29.

The combined 10 top FPL managers teams

Here’s a team which tries to make a combination from the most represented players. Please note that it is meant to be a menu of players to help you choose your transfer rather than a realistic team and it’s value is not necessarily achievable.  This week it is not achievable at around £108.0m

The favourite players of the top 10 managers for GW29 fixtures only

So were picking from Fulham v Leeds, Brighton v Newcastle, West Ham v Arsenal, Villa v Spurs

I’ve ignored team number restrictions.  Remember is a menu of players not a viable FPL team.

Hope it gives you some transfer ideas.
