fantasy premier league transfer tips GW3– Analysing the teams of 10 top FPL managers – POINTS UPDATED

Fantasy Premier League, top 10 FPL managers

Here’s our fantasy premier league transfer tips GW3 article where we analyse the teams of 10 top FPL managers. These 10 managers have not finished outside the overall rank of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection.

Introduction

The criteria I’ve always been looking for is managers who’ve finished in the top 10k for the last 3 years when FPL has become considerably harder due to the amount of people playing and the information available.

This article was written after Sundays games and before the Mondays games

The 10 managers stats

I’ve given the identities and FPL IDs of the 10 FPL managers in the FFGeek Patreon site

It includes our very own Yaniv Salomon who you can follow on twitter here

These managers are incredible and every bit as impressive as last season.

1. The overall average finishing overall rank of the top 10 managers in the last 3 seasons is 3,860

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons (ie 30 times playing)

3. 7 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000 in the last 3 seasons

4. 1 of the 10 have finished in the top 100 in the last 3 seasons

Their basic stats at the end of GW2

Now updated

There were 5 green arrows and 5 red arrows

The average points score in GW2 after Sundays games was 68.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers was 818k.  That’s 679k worse than last weeks average of 139k

The median overall rank was 544k

The average total points are 141

The average team value was £100m.

The combined total of individual players

I’ve generally only included where there is a minimum of a player in 3 out of the 10 FPL managers teams

Goalkeeper/Defence by player

Alexander Arnold and James Justin are 10 of the 10 FPL managers teams

McCarthy is in 8 of the 10 FPL managers teams

Steer and Mitchell are in 6 of the 10 FPL managers teams

C Taylor is in 5 of the 10 FPL managers teams

Ayling is in 4 of the 10 FPL managers teams

Digne and Walker Peters are in 3 of the 10 FPL managers teams

Goalkeeper/Defence by team

Liverpool are represented 12 times in the 10 FPL managers teams

Southampton are represented 11 times in the 10 FPL managers teams

Leicester are represented 10 times in the 10 FPL managers team

C Palace and Villa are represented 7 times in the 10 FPL managers teams

Brighton, Leeds and Burnley are represented 5 times in the 10 FPL managers teams

Midfielders

Aubameyang is in 10 of the FPL managers teams

Salah is in 8 of the 10 FPL managers teams

Bissouma and Soucek are 6 of the 10 FPL managers teams

Son and Fernandes are in 5 of the FPL managers teams

Rodriguez Reed and Rashford are in 2 of the 10 managers teams

Forwards

Mitrovic and Werner are in 8 of the FPL managers teams

Adams and Calvert Lewin are in 4 of the 10 managers teams

Antonio is in 2 of the 10 FPL managers teams

GW2 Captain Choice

10 managers captained Aubameyang

The FFGeek Poll showed 67% were captaining Aubameyang and 11% Fernandes

Formations

6 managers played 3-4-3

3 manager played 4-3-3

1 manager played 3-5-2

Wildcards and Chips

1 manager has used his wildcard.  Here was his team which has scored 71 points at the end of the gameweek

The top 10k overall rank vs the 10 FPL managers

I won’t be doing this for a few weeks until it becomes less volatile

The template

I use the 10 managers as a proxy for serious managers teams and have a basic rule of thumb that if 7 of the 10 managers have a player or a team defence then I will seriously consider getting that player .

Here’s the template on that basis. The difficulty with tracking the template is that you’re 1 game behind it as you obviously can’t see what their transfers are leading up to the gameweek opening.

Liverpool defence – Alexander Arnold

Southampton defence – McCarthy

Leicester Defence – Justin

C Palace defence – Mitchell

Villa defence – Steer

Aubameyang

Salah

Mitrovic

Werner

That’s 9 players but you wouldn’t count Mitchell and Steer as they could be could be declassified as template as they will mostly just be an FPL bench player

One managers team

Here’s our very own Yaniv Salomon who’s last 3 seasons overall ranks were 3k, 4k and 8k.  He scored an incredible 109 points this gameweek so far and is currently 70k oberall rank higher than any of the other 10 managers.  This week he carried over a free transfer

Here’s his points:

He has 5 of the 7 template players but not Werner and Salah.  His template replacement players are Mane and Calvert Lewin which were a big part of his success this week.  Son as a difference maker was also a big plus.  You can see in my FFGeek team selection article how I classify players

The combined 10 top FPL managers teams

Here’s a team which tries to make a combination from the most represented players. Please note that it is meant to be a menu of players to help you choose your transfer rather than a realistic team and it’s value is not necessarily achievable although obviously it is this week. In fact this has £0.9m in the bank
