fantasy premier league transfer tips GW33 – analysing the teams of 10 top FPL managers – free hit special

,

Here’s our fantasy premier league transfer tips GW33 article where we analyse the teams of 10 top FPL managers. This article is a free hit special where we show you how the 8 Free Hitting  FPL managers did in GW32.  These 10 managers have not finished outside the overall rank of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection.

With 8 of the 10 managers free hitting it’s a different format than usual.

If the article is too long there’s a combined FPL managers team for the top 10 FPL managers analysed towards the end of the article.

Firstly, there are 9 new managers in the 10 this season and I’m delighted to say that one of them is our own FFGeek contributor Keith Spencer. You can find Keith on twitter here by the way Keith’s last 3 years history are 17/18 (3,940), 16/17 ( 325) and 15/16 (9,280).

We’ve also added Paul Williams to the FFGeek team who is also part of the 10 top managers. His history is 17/18 (412), 16/17 ( 1,382) and 15/16 (7,164). See his latest article here

The criteria I’ve always been looking for is managers who’ve finished in the top 10k for the last 3 years when FPL has become considerably harder due to the amount of people playing and the information available.

It took me hours and hours to track down 10 managers who’ve been so consistent and my opinion after doing so is that there are probably only 20 or so in the world that qualify.

The 10 managers stats

These managers are unbelievable and every bit as impressive as last season.

1. The overall average finishing overall rank of the top 10 managers in the last 3 seasons is 3,667

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons (ie 30 times playing)

3. 7 of the 10 have finished in the top 1,000 in the last 3 seasons

Gameweek 32 review

A mixed week for the 10 FPL managers. 6 of the 10 had a green arrow. Of the 8 Free Hitters 4 had green arrows.

8 of the 8 Free Hit FPL managers went Aguero

71% of the top 10k overall rank captained Aguero according to FPL discovery.

Wildcards, chips, transfers and hits

9 of the managers have used their Free Hit chip.  8 used this this week

4 have used their triple captain chip including 1 who used it this week on Aguero.

2 managers have used their 2nd wildcard including 1 who used it this week.

Here’s the wildcard team.  He still has his free hit available so I’m assuming he’s going to free hit in GW33 as the team is set up for DGW35.  He has 13 players with double gameweeks in 35 plus 2 free transfers after a GW33 free hit to transfer out Hazard and Luiz to complete the 15.

His GW32 score was 97 and his OR is 32k

The top 10k overall rank vs the 10 FPL managers

45% of the top 10k used their free hit chip according to FPL discovery.  The schedule shows the players in the top 10k overall rank teams percentage wise vs the 8 Free Hitting top FPL managers I follow.   I’ve only compared those players who had double gameweeks.

  1. Hello geek!
Would like it if you could look at the possibility of wildcarding for next week 33 as only have 5players playing and then also setting up ready for 35 with bench boast.
    I’m in trouble

  2. You don’t want to wildcard this week for a team of blank week players , or you will have no double players for the big double week 35..

Best advice is probably to get your team up to about 7 or 8 this week and take your medicine this week and learn from it to SAVE your free hit next season for this vital phase. The free hitters in week 32 are strong now, simply flipping back to a full 11 that served both GW31 and GW33.

Use your wildcard in GW34 to set your team up with 13-15 players all playing twice in GW35 and then bench boost in week 35 with all 15 counting, packed with double game players.

    • Again it would all depend on your team and strategy.
Assuming this is your strategy, what are then your thoughts on including/excluding Salah and Mane of your GW35 squad? With Liverpool arguably facing two of the weakest defences in the league in Cardiff and Huddersfield for GW35 and GW36? The pair tie up a lot of funds for single fixtures in 35.. Whilst substituting them for DGW players and getting them back in probably requires a bit of surgery and hits. However, they are both great captain and triple captain options for those two gameweeks. In the reverse fixtures they racked up 38 points between them, with Mane missing a game. With C and 2xC that could potentially have been a massive 76 point haul from the pair. I’m just saying this to point out that there will always be multiple successful strategies

  3. The transition from week 32 to 33 always looked likely to catch people out.. and was a major drawback to the week 31 free hitting plan.. and the reason 70% of the top 10,000 players free hitted in week 32 for the very smooth transition between the blanks and doubles

  4. DGW over rated. I Did Free Hit this week and fell from 5k to 8k, and didn’t do much wrong. Sometimes we overthink things. Trying to double guess Wolves and Watford caught me out too. Teams are rotating and they’re exhausted. My aim for the next few weeks is hunting out teams with a lot to play for against teams that are on the beach.

  5. Different strategies can work, it’s about doing what is best for the players you have.

After a free hit last week which didnt do anything, I got 112 (-12) this week with a bench boost, OR up from 2.5k to 1.7k. Team for this week will only be 8 players with a -4, but happy to take some pain knowing the team is well set up for the rest of the season with lots of DGW 35 players. Just do what’s right for your team and not worry about what others are doing.

    • “Just do what’s right for your team and not worry about what others are doing.”
Best and simplest advice most tend to forget.

Although I believe looking to others to figure out how what they are doing could work for your team is a great idea. Overthinking happens a lot, but in the end we just gotta close our eyes and roll the dice. After all, we’re all gambling hoping for success.

  6. I had a great free hit team this week, planned it in detail all week. Carefully avoided Wolves and Watford who were bound to rotate. Ended up with 6 players only starting once and a seventh getting sent off with a -1 over the two games.

Yeah, you can overthink things for sure.
