So with the season only being 3 days old we focus on last seasons stats although include some of this season.  Everything’s clearly marked.  The values and the transfers are from yesterday evening.

The Bandwagons

Sterling

The Man City midfielder has 2 goals and 15 points in the 3-1 win against West Ham making it 2 goals and 2 assists for the season.  Sterling is literally a man transformed under Guardiola.  The underlying stats are good but to be honest don’t really warrant the returns he’s got so far.  However there’s no doubting the reality of the threat.  It’s impossible so far to look at his last seasons stats as a reflection of his prospects this season.  However is he the real deal or a mirage?  Time will tell.  The fixtures are ok if not among the best.  How Aguero’s absence in the short term will affect his returns remains to be seen.  Rotation at this stage though looks the biggest threat

Next 6 fixtures

Man Utd (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (H)

Hazard

A goal and a stupendous performance in the 3-0 win over Burnley for the Chelsea midfielder.  Is the Hazard of 14/15 back?  He certainly sign posted it at the end of last season and in the Euro’s.  His performances and the 2 goals and an assist in the 3 games to date certainly helps to keep the theory alive.  The underlying stats show that his start is definitely no fluke.  They are excellent.  No European football also mean his rotation risk and fatigue risk is low.  The only negative is the fixtures coming up after Swansea.  However the 14/15 Hazard was fixture proof.  Should have pens as a bonus too.

Swansea (A)
Liverpool (H)
Arsenal (A)
Hull (A)
Leicester (H)
Man Utd (H)

Capoue

The Watford midfielder blanked in his last game but that was after scoring in both the first 2 games.  Although his underlying stats aren’t actually too bad it’s hard to suddenly think that someone who scored 1 assist in the entirety of last season can be a viable option.  Granted he is playing further forward but it’s alot of hope going into it.  However lets not forget this is a 5th midfielder but a certainly questionable 4th.  Fixtures overall are good.

West Ham (A)
Man Utd (H)
Burnley (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Swansea (A)

Negredo

The Middlesborough striker blanked although did have a goal and 2 assists in his first 2 games.  The negative though jumps out at you.  There are very few strikers with worse shooting stats which does question whether his success is going to continue.  Ironically in Spain he was notorious for his inability to convert clear cut chances.

Crystal Palace (H)
Everton (A)
Spurs (H)
West Ham (A)
Watford (H)
Arsenal (A)

Costa

2 goals and an assist in his first 3 games returning in each of the 3 is a return to form after an underwhelming last season for the Chelsea forward.  The underlying shooting stats are excellent showing that this is no fluke.  Like Hazard the lack of European football means that rotation and fatigue risk are minimised.  The advantage is maximised by him not being involved in the Euros.  The negatives are the fixtures which as I said for Hazard after Swansea take a nasty turn for the worst.  The other is his penchant for yellow cards which doesn’t help his inability to get bonus points.  In each of the 3 games he’s returned in all of them but not 1 bonus point has arrived.

Swansea (A)
Liverpool (H)
Arsenal (A)
Hull (A)
Leicester (H)
Man Utd (H)

The Sinking Ships

Aguero

Hard to minimise the impact of his start to the season.  3 goals in his first 3 games has been a good start for the Man City forward.  However his suspension for elbowing Winston Reid means he will miss 2 PL games.   Selling is certainly 1 option as £13m is alot of cash to have on your bench.  As usual he’s top or thereabouts on the underlying stats front.  He’ll be back for Swansea away which is a fixture you definitely want to buy him back for

Man Utd (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (H)

Stones

A miserable 4 points and no clean sheets in the first 3 games for the Man City CB.  Thats pretty disappointing considering the opposition weren’t too flash.  However £5.0m for a Man City CB is great value and the clean sheets will definitely come.  The Kompany effect is the risk as well as rotation with the number of competitions that Man City will be fighting in.

Man Utd (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)
Spurs (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (H)

Mahrez

The Leicester midfielder’s missed pen and 0 point return was a good way of generating transfers out.  Not only that with him missing 3 of his last 4 pens he can possibly wave goodbye to any future penalties.  The upcoming fixtures certainly don’t help the situation.  Neither does the possibility of fatigue through the additional Champions League fixtures.  On the positive side his underlying stats are ok which means hope isn’t lost for the future

Liverpool (A)
Burnley (H)
Man Utd (A)
Southampton (H)
Chelsea (A)
Crystal Palace (H)

Walker

The Spurs RB  went off injured in GW3 but appears to be fit to return in GW4.  Considering he’s great value for a Spurs defender and has already provided a clean sheet and an assist in his first 3 games with good fixtures coming up the transfers out are a bit of a surprise.

 Stoke (A)
Sunderland (H)
Middlesbrough (A)
Man City (H)
West Brom (A)
Bournemouth (A)

Payet

Another interesting one.  Played 45 minutes for France just gone so has to be a good prospect to start finally for West Ham in GW4.  There’s no doubting after last season and the Euro’s what a fantastic player he is.  Great fixtures coming up, the majority set piece responsibility for West Ham and an uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time on the counter attack mean a great prospect for returns in the gameweeks ahead

Watford (H)
West Brom (A)
Southampton (H)
Middlesbrough (H)
Crystal Palace (A)
Sunderland (H)
