Introduction

Firstly here’s Kris’ stats from GW8:

GW8 points: 32 (average 36) Total points 450 Gameweek rank 4,560k, Overall Rank: 452k, red arrow 152k, Team Value: £101.7m

Reasoning for wildcarding

  • On Saturday night I made the decision to activate my wildcard – this felt an easy choice for a number of reasons:
  • My bench (Greenwood, Hanley and Femenia) need replacing as they are struggling for minutes (and points), resulting in me fielding ten players in two of the last three game weeks – I’ve assumed my remaining players make it today to get my ten this week!
  • Salah is currently looking expensive at 12.5m and potentially injured.Norwich’s injury hit team seems to have caught up with Pukki’s form.
  • Matip is injured, albeit hopefully only this gameweek.
  • I will want KDB back if fit.
  • A chance to work around recent news such as Gazzaniga (4.4m Sp*rs starting keeper) and injuries thrown up over the international.
  • In total I’m looking at around 7 changes.
  • The two week period is a great time to ride price changes, especially if activating early as I have.
  • I’m currently buying in some price risers for the players I no longer want/have no value tied up. Depending on movements over the next few days I might have to make a few definitive decisions on my final GW9 squad.

Draft Wildcard team

As things stand, on Sunday morning, my thoughts for my squad are:

Goalkeepers (1 change)

Current: Ryan (4.6) and Button (4.0). I’m happy with Ryan who’s performances over the last few gameweeks have resulted in him sitting top of the goalkeeper charts (albeit it’s very tight).

Changes: Upgrade Button to 4m playing keeper McGovern or 4.4m Gazzaniga. It will come down to how much cash I have left.

Defenders (2 changes)

Current: Matip (5.5), Tomori (4.7), Lundstram (4.5), Femenia (4.3) and Hanley (4.0).

Changes: Femenia and Hanley out.

DEF 1 Get a premium Liverpool, moving me to a double Liverpool defence (first time for my team) which coincides with Allison’s expected return in GW9. TAA (7.2) my preference. If I run out of cash I will look at Leicester’s Pereira (6.1).

DEF 2 Another value defender, candidates include: Soyuncu (4.7), Dunk (4.6), Montoya (4.5), Lowton (4.5), Guilbert (4.4), Taylor (4.2), Rico (4.1).

It feels strange not to be considering a City defender – my current thinking is that with the exception of Mendy (5.9), who doesn’t appear to be nailed, they are lack attacking threat so feel I can get better value elsewhere. Having said that Cancelo (5.3) is tempting!

Midfield (2 changes)

Current: Salah (12.5), Sterling (12.1), Mahrez (8.7), Mount (6.7), McGinn (5.8).

Changes: Salah out. Keep Mount and McGinn, plus double city but which two?

MID 1 I’ve been thinking Mahrez and De Bruyne for a couple of weeks, so if he’s back fit and Mahrez looks like he will play more regularly it might be Sterling out the door.

MID 2 The Liverpool attack is so good I think going without will result in me scrambling to get one back in after a few weeks. So I might go to Mane (11.6), if not I’ll be looking at a mid priced midfielder. Current options:

Martial (7.5) I had at the start, and if back fit playing up front has good fixtures from GW10.
Maddison (7.1), Tielemans (6.4), Perez (6.0). Cover Leicester’s great fixtures to GW17.
Yarmolenko (6.0). Good form, though fixtures could be better.
Hudson-Odoi (5.9). A bit of a punt with only sub appearances so far, but has looked great and Chelski have great fixtures running to GW17.

Forwards (2 changes)

Current: Aubameyang (11.0), Pukki (7.2), Greenwood (4.4).

Changes: Pukki and Greenwood out.

FWD 1 I had Firmino (9.6) earlier in the season and as I’ve written previously I think has a good hedge to Salah, so likely I’ll get him in as my Liverpool attacker.

FWD 2 I’m looking at Vardy (8.9), Abraham (7.6) and King (6.3) who’s picked up form recently and Bournemouth have some good fixtures running to GW15.

My forwards changes will give me three genuine options so I can have confidence in my bench, where I will have one of my mid-price midfielders or forwards who I’d look to rotate each week.
