fantasy premier league wildcard tips – the FFGeek imaginary wildcard GW17

Here’s the team firstly:

fpl..gw17imagWC

GK  Butland 7 clean sheets in 16 games 14 goals conceded.  FPL point every 16.9 mins   mins 5 clean sheets in the last 6

Top FPL scoring GK by a reasonable margin. The Stoke defence is also on a remarkable run and Butland is leading the way. Fixtures are a bit mixed but this hasn’t prevented points so far.  On current form you would play him home and away.

Crystal Palace (H)
Man Utd (H)
Everton (A)
West Brom (A)
Norwich (H)
Arsenal (H)

GK Hennesey C Palace 4 clean sheets in 16 games 15 goals conceded.  FPL point every 23.7 mins.  2 clean sheets in the last 6

A great £4.0m GK back up

Stoke (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Swansea (H)
Chelsea (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Man City (A)

Def Jones (0 goal 0 assists) Man Utd 9 clean sheets in 16 games 9 goals conceded.  FPL point every  23.7 mins.  2 clean sheets in the last 6

Christmas is not really the time to gamble on gametime however I’ve included the Man Utd defender as he seems to balance out security and price to a reasonable level.  Although Man Utd are going through an injury crisis which does diminish their appeal they still have clean sheet appeal due to good fixtures.  Jones also has the ability to play CB and RB although his injury history isn’t great to say the least.  If you wanted more security you could have GK De Gea for Man Utd and £4.4m Stoke CB Wollscheid as a another option.

Norwich (H)
Stoke (A)
Chelsea (H)
Swansea (H)
Newcastle (A)
Liverpool (A)

Def Bellerin (0 goal 2 assists) Arsenal 7 clean sheets in 18 games 13 goals conceded.  FPL point every  19.7 mins.  2 clean sheets in the last 6

Arsenal are definitely up their with the best defences.  Mertesacker is the cheap option but Bellerin offers more attacking potential

Man City (H)
Southampton (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)
Stoke (A)

Souare Def C Palace  (0 goal 1 assists)  4 clean sheets in 16 games 15 goals conceded.  FPL point every 32.3 mins.  2 clean sheets in the last 6

The Palace defence has some good stats and reasonable fixtures going forward.  Souare also has good attacking potential.

Stoke (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Swansea (H)
Chelsea (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Man City (A

Def Moreno (0 goals 1 assist) Liverpool 5 clean sheets in 16 games 19 goals conceded.  FPL point every  26.9 mins.  1 clean sheet in the last 6

Has great attacking potential.  The Liverpool defence hasn’t really performed although the fixtures are ok and the underlying defensive stats show some promise

Watford (A)
Leicester (H)
Sunderland (A)
West Ham (A)
Arsenal (H)
1Man Utd (H)

Def  Evans (0 goal 0 assists) Man City 6 clean sheets in 16 games 21 goals conceded.  FPL point every 25.8 mins.  0 clean sheets in the last 6.

WBA have just got through some difficult fixtures which is reflected on the poor recent defensive form but don’t underestimate Pulis’ defensive ability.  Dawson has more attacking potential but is a little more expensive

Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)
Newcastle (H)
Stoke (H)
Chelsea (A)
Southampton (A)

Mahrez  (  FPL point every 9.1 minutes 11 goals 7 assists. 11 returns either goal or assist/15 games  73% consistency return rate)

The midfielder who ticks every box.  Fantastic minutes per FPL point, consistency and his underlying stats back this up as no fluke.  The only thing against him is the fixtures and he passed the first test (if you count Chelsea currently as a test) with a goal and an assist.  Interestingly he’s scored against Spurs but blanked against Arsenal and Man Utd.

Everton (A)
Liverpool (A)
Man City (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Spurs (A)
Aston Villa (A)

Josh King  (FPL point every 21.6 minutes 2 goals 1 assists. 3 returns either goal or assist/14 games  21% consistency return rate)

The stats don’t tell the true story.  Here we have a midfielder in FPL playing up front for £4.6m.  Also in the last 4 games he’s scored 2 goals and an assist.

West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Arsenal (A)
Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Norwich (H)

Ozil  (  FPL point every 12.6 minutes 2 goals 13 assists. 12 returns either goal or assist/15 games  80% consistency return rate)

Mr Consistency makes it a goal or assist in the last 10 games.   From the CAM position he is the leading assister and chance creater.  The negative is a lack of shooting stats.

Man City (H)
Southampton (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)
Stoke (A)

De Bruyne  (  FPL point every 13.1 minutes 4 goals 6 assists. 6 returns either goal or assist/12 games  50% consistency return rate)

Started well and seems to be an integral part of the team although now a rotation risk over the Xmas period.  Good creating chances stats but little in the way of shooting stats.  Thats showed in 1 goal in the last 9 after 3 goals in consecutive games.

Arsenal (A)
Sunderland (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Crystal Palace (H)

Coutinho (  FPL point every 14.8 minutes 5 goals 3 assists. 5 returns either goal or assist/13 games  38% consistency return rate)

Here’s the punt section of the team.  I could have gone for Ramsey but went for Giroud up front so I’ve returned to Coutinho.  Probably the attacking hub of the Liverpool team albeit a team that is stuttering somewhat at the moment.  Has shown some form with 4 goals and an assist in his last 4 games and does have good shooting stats.  However the consistency certainly hasn’t been there.  Some reasonable fixtures until we get to Arsenal and Man Utd.

Watford (A)
Leicester (H)
Sunderland (A)
West Ham (A)
Arsenal (H)
Man Utd (H)

Giroud (  FPL point every 15.7 minutes 9 goals 0 assists. 9 returns either goal or assist/16 games  56% consistency return rate)

Phenomenal consistency rate considering this includes sub appearances.  Minutes per FPL point would be better but he seems to have been stitched up on the bonus point front only collecting 4 all season.  Also has phenomenal shooting stats to show this season is no fluke.  So whats the catch?  Gametime.  Will probably start to share minutes again with Walcott and Wenger has eluded to rotation in interviews.  That is a risk with a player from every team in Europe.  Whether Walcott can be spared from midfield duties is another matter but will probably depend on Sanchez’s return which is likely to be GW18

Man City (H)
Southampton (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Newcastle (H)
Liverpool (A)
Stoke (A)

Vardy (  FPL point every 12.4 minutes 15 goals 2 assists.  15 returns either goal or assist/16 games  94% consistency return rate)

Impossible to eulogise too much.  Scored in 11 games in a row.  Returned a goal or assist in 15/16 games.  The opposition don’t matter.  Arsenal 2 goals. Man Utd 1 goal, Spurs an assist.  Chelsea a goal.  Tough fixtures no problem.  Great underlying stats to show this is no fluke.  It’s just the next 3 fixtures but like Mahrez navigated the first supposedly difficult 1 with a goal.

Everton (A)
Liverpool (A)
Man City (H)
Bournemouth (H)
Spurs (A)
Aston Villa (A)

Lukaku (  FPL point every 13.1 minutes 11 goals 4 assists. 9 returns either goal or assist/15 games  60% consistency return rate)

Like Vardy ticks every box.   FPL points per minute, consistency, underlying stats.  Fixtures will turn in a few games though.

Leicester (H)
Newcastle (A)
Stoke (H)
Spurs (H)
Man City (A)
Chelsea (A)
