Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our fantasy premier league wildcard tips GW14 article where I pretend I’m using my wildcard. It gives player suggestions with more longevity than just for the up coming gameweek.

This article brings together the various earlier articles in the week.

In this article I’m pretending I’m using my wildcard to give you player picks with more longevity than the next game.

I’ve given links to articles below with all the detailed stats you’ll need if you want to investigate a player in more detail.

There’s also our fixture ease article which gives player suggestions with good fixtures. You can also see who the popular transfers are in our bandwagons article .

The FFGeek imaginary wildcard team

My value at the moment is a fairly low £102.3m and the team fits within that with money in the bank for an Aguero to Kane swap.

Structure

Using the wildcard 1 week before the fixture change of GW15 isn’t ideal but it can be accommodated. One of the issues with the team isn’t the bench isn’t particularly deep but that’s going to happen when you’re trying to shoehorn in 4 premium players.

The formation that the team would play is predominantly 4-3-3 with the 2 cheap midfielders only giving flexibility to go to 5-3-2.  Each week you will be looking to play 2 of Ings, Wan Bissaka and Doherty.

The Team has enough in the bank to go Aguero to Kane if that’s whats wanted for GW15.  It’s slightly short of then going Hazard to Sterling afterwards  but I’d like to think most of you have more team vaue than me.

Goalkeepers

Foster isn’t exactly the save king but the Watford defence is still the best £4.5m defence in the league for me apart from Wolves.  Even the 3-0 loss to Liverpool at the weekend was a 10 shot 1.45 xG loss which is hardly a statistical disaster.

Man City (H)
Everton (A)
Cardiff (H)
West Ham (A)
Chelsea (H)

Button is the cheap non playing reserve

Defence

Laporte

Man City is the best defence in the league in every category for me.  Laporte appears to be the safest although Pep is unpredicatble to say the least.  However his bonus potential isn’t great and his attacking stats fairly ordinary despite 3 goals in all competitions

Bournemouth (H)
Watford (A)
Chelsea (A)
Everton (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Leicester (A)

Luiz

It’s hard to describe how bad he was v Spurs albeit not alone.  However he has played every minute so far this season and although there’s a risk he could be the scapegoat for the loss to Spurs it’s possibly a risk I would take.  I would rather have Alonso but whether Alonso is worth the additional £1.5m is questionable and not possible in this team scenario.  You just have to accept that every now and then you will be on the wrong side of a 15 pointer from Alonso.  On the reverse side Luiz is easier to bench in some games as you’re not in fear of missing out of that 15 pointer constantly.

Fulham (H)
Wolves (A)
Man City (H)
Brighton (A)
Leicester (H)
Watford (A)

Alexander Arnold

Didn’t play v PSG which hopefully is a good sign for the weekend.  Unless you have Alisson or Van Dijk who will probably be minimally rotated you’re going to have to live with the odd benching.  So do so at the cheap end of the spectrum,  £5.2m is good value for the 2nd best defence in the league.

Everton (H)
Burnley (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)
Wolves (A)
Newcastle (H)

Doherty

Wolves is the best cheap defence in the league and Doherty the best attacking option.  £4.2m Bennett is the cheaper option.

Cardiff (A)
Chelsea (H)
Newcastle (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Liverpool (H)
Fulham (A)

Wan Bissaka

Palace are a reasonably good defensive team and Wan Bissaka, considering his excellent bonus potential with 9 points already,  is good value.  Palace have come out of their difficult fixture run

Burnley (H)
Brighton (A)
West Ham (A)
Leicester (H)
Man City (A)
Cardiff (H)

Midfield

Salah

He’s been fairly consistent this season with 8 returns from 13 games but his PP90 of 6.7 isn’t enough for his price and he needs to convert those fantastic underlying stats into returns.  In the 5 seasons prior to this season he’s never under performed them so Id expect improvement in returns.

His main negative is only 2 bonus points from 11 returns (7 goals and 4 assists)

Everton (H)
Burnley (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)
Wolves (A)
Newcastle (H)

Hojbjerg

Just a cheap filler who’s started 9 of the last 10 games and played 90 minutes in those 9.  No more than a 2 pointer though

Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
Cardiff (A)
Arsenal (H)
Huddersfield (A)
West Ham (H)

Sane

Devastating returns and underlying stats when on the pitch.  Mendy injury should help his gametime

Bournemouth (H)
Watford (A)
Chelsea (A)
Everton (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Leicester (A)

Hazard

Like the rest of the Chelsea team the Spurs game wasn’t his most productive but despite only 1 assist in the last 5 gameweeks (he started 3 games 1 as sub and 1 injured) home to Fulham isn’t the time to not have him in your team.  Is an injury monitor but that looks positive.

Has pens and is an absolute bonus magnet with all his returning starts earning bonus points.  4 out of the 5 were also  3 bonus pointers.  His fantastic returns over the season when on the pitch are backed up by excellent underlying stats

This team with my cash in the bank won’t swap to Sterling 9as many will be thinking of doing) after this game but not far off and you may have more team value than me.

Fulham (H)
Wolves (A)
Man City (H)
Brighton (A)
Leicester (H)
Watford (A)

Billing

Another cheap filler who has started every game and played 90 minutes in 11.  Again a 2 point wonder with only 1 goal in those 13 games.

Brighton (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Arsenal (A)
Newcastle (H)
Southampton (H)
Man Utd (A)

Forwards

Aguero

In there as a potential swap to Kane for GW15 as I’ve left enough cash in the bank with this team.  Great returns when on the pitch and consistency plus excellent underlying stats and still the only Man City attacking player to have started every PL game. Him being a sub magnet is the negative.

Bournemouth (H)
Watford (A)
Chelsea (A)
Everton (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Leicester (A)

Ings

Arguably the best striker under £6m if not in returns then in underlying stats.  Also has penalty duties.  Cheap enough to be benched.  He is a fitness doubt for GW14

Man Utd (H)
Spurs (A)
Cardiff (A)
Arsenal (H)
Huddersfield (A)
West Ham (H)

Arnautovic

Reasonably good returns, ok consistency and underlying stats considering a tough fixture start.  The attraction is mainly about fixtures though which are good up to GW22.  Needs fitness monitoring for GW14.

Newcastle (A)
Cardiff (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Fulham (A)
Watford (H)
Southampton (A)
