Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our fantasy premier league wildcard tips GW17 article where we pretend we are using our wildcard. It gives player suggestions with more longevity than just for the up coming gameweek

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE WILDCARD TIPS GW17 – OUR IMAGINARY WILDCARD

This is an article where I’m pretending I’m using my wildcard to give you player picks with more longevity than the next game. It’s fairly short and there are no stats. That’s just time pressure and the short gameweek. There are more options in my fixture ease article

IMAGINARY WC TEAM

The team is slightly over my budget and totals about £105.0m

STRUCTURE AND GAMETIME

The structure is a flexible one and could change depending on fixtures.

As I said last week, there’s alot of talk about gametime secure players. I agree with the principle but you have to distinguish between rotation and players who could lose their place. The amount of games played by the teams in the UCL means that there will be rotation. Pep is doing it, Klopp is doing it and Conte is doing it. So I’m not going to avoid City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United players just because the players won’t play every game.

There’s another aspect to this and that;s the risk premium you pay for gametime secure players.  Take Christensen.  He has competition for his place from Rudiger and when Luiz is back will have competition further.  But you save £1.4m over Azpilicueta who is assured for his place.  You take risk but there is a monetary reward for that risk

I think where to be aware is players like Ben Davies who has a rival for his place at least as good as him and someone at the other extreme like Hazard who will be rotated for rest reasons but other than that will play every game.

GKS

I’ve gone for Adrian as a gamble for the double gameweek 22 and Fabianski for save points.  Just a warning that they don’t rotate but should Adrian lose his place Fabianski has the ability to get save points home and away

DEFENCE

My rank may be dependent on my faith in the Man City defence which despite it’s lack of clean sheets and issues at set pieces I still believe in.  I’ve been bailed out by Otamendi‘s goal scoring and ability to get bonus points

Christensen is the cheap entry into the Chelsea defence.  I did think long and hard about Smalling instead

Gomez may not play in GW17 due to rotation but is my choice for the moment for the Liverpool defence.  He will rotate with Alexandar Arnold but at the price I think that’s a risk worth taking.  1 bonus for Gomez is that he’s actually a CB so could take Lovren or Klavan’s place for rotation.  It also means you have a multi dimensional attacking threat with a guy who can get headers from set pieces and cross the ball for assists.  He really should have scored at the weekend from a set piece.

Burnley keep defying the stats and keep clean sheets and it’s a brave man who doesn’t have one in their team and a brave man who puts 1 on the bench.  I’ve gone for Tarkowski as the cheapest option although I have Ward in my team

Lastly I’ve gone for cheapie Kenny who has made the RB position his own.  He was also excellent in GW16 so hard to see him losing his place although Big Sam does have rotation options for him.

MIDFIELD

Salah is just impossible not to have in your team at the moment. Great returns, great underlying stats and playing in a very advanced position on the right of a front 3.  Should start given he was withdrawn on 66 minutes

With the Morata injury Hazard is in the team for the Chelsea fixtures

Sterling is my Man City player of choice.  D Silva could also be a good option but despite some questionable underlying stats recently Sterlings goal threat is swinging it for me

Richarlison is great value and  Watford have good fixtures.  Silva has talked about tiredness and saving him which may give some rotation is the negative

Loftus Cheek maybe a 5th mid but has good fixtures and plays in an attacking position for Palace.  A great option off the bench.

FORWARDS

Kane‘s double against Stoke has give him a new lease of life

Austin is in despite some tricky fixtures.  He may not be the channel running high pressing forward that managers want these days but he can put the ball in the net.  He’s even making Tadic look good at the moment.  (Sorry to say that about your personal friend Rob Reid!)

The Morata injury has me gambling on Lukaku.  While he has had his issues against the top 6 teams he has apart from a couple of occasions turned up returns matched by good underlying stats against lower placed teams.  With United’s good fixtures I am gambling that will continue
