Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our fantasy premier league wildcard tips GW22 article where we pretend we have a wildcard to use. It gives you some player picks with more longevity than just the next gameweek. It also puts those picks within a structure and a team value that is realistic. Lastly it brings together our player picks articles in the player rankings series.

So here’s the team. It’s a bit unaffordable at just over £105.5m

Underneath there’s some narrative on the thinking

Starting at the back I’ve gone for the cheapie GKs in Grant and hopefully new Hull GK Jakupovic just to accrue save points and save on funds.  There’s also some gamble that new manager Silva can improve their defensive stats.  Heaton is undoubtedly the GK at the moment but I’ve stayed away to save value

At the back I’ve stayed with the best defence and attacking player in that defence of Marcos Alonso of Chelsea.  Jones of Man Utd is also great value.  I’m gambling some what though that Bailly doesn’t upset his place.  Then I’ve gone for the great value that is Yoshida with Fonte moving on.  He’s still a risk depending on what Southampton do in the transfer market.  Middlesboro is the best cheap defence in my  mind and for the moment I’ve stuck with Chambers for gametime security.  I’d like to see the full back situation and formation being a lot steadier before I move away from him.  Lastly there’s the attacking potential of Chris Brunt.  There is an assumption in this that Nyom will be sorted as far as AFCON is concerned and allow Brunt to play as an LAM again.

In the midfield I’ve decided to go for a 5 to make it a front 8.

Hopefully I don’t need to justify Sanchez.  I’ve then gone for the goals, assists and set piece potential of Coutinho.  I’m hoping that playing in the FA Cup was to improve fitness rather than limiting his gametime this week.  The 2 cheapies in Phillips and Stanislas are both in form , have got fixtures and also the extra advantages of set pieces enabling assists and goals.  Stanislas should have pens when Wilson is off the pitch.  Lastly there’s Dele Alli.  Eriksen has goal and assist potential plus set pieces and I wouldn’t begrudge anyone picking Eriksen over Alli.  However it’s the virtual support striker role that Alli plays that is the attraction.

Upfront like Sanchez I’m hoping Ibrahimovic  needs no justification given current form and fixtures.  Lukaku also has that combination.

However the elephant in the room is undoubtedly Costa.  It looks like he’ll be involved and hopefully start given the words spoken.  The fixture even with a Silva improved Hull City is a great one so I’ve taken the leap of faith.
