FantasyXL.com is a daily fantasy sports platform that we at FFGeek will be partnering with for the World Cup.  Here’s an introduction article with the rules and the FFGeek plans for the World Cup.  There’s also a first draft team for the first day.

What is fantasyXL?

FantasyXL is a daily fantasy football site that has a large collection of leagues around the globe from the Australian A League and MLS to the Premier League and La Liga plus a number more for over 30 leagues available. participants assemble virtual teams of real footballers and compete based on the statistical performance of those players players in actual games.  The user with the best team and therefore the most points wins the contest.

Their aim is to create an opportunity to make it possible to play almost 24h a day, 7 days a week.

You can take advantage of a special promotion with a 5€  with no deposit required or you can just use the fantasy football free rolls where you play for free for prize pools up to 20€

The Lobby page is where you will find the free and paid fantasy football contests around the world.  You can enter a contest with friends or join an existing contest.

How do you play?

Signing up

1) Register at the fantasyXL site

2) If you are logged in, go to the Lobby Page

3) Join a contest by clicking “Enter”

4) Now you can see the pitch and you will start picking different players from the matchday or league you chose

5) If you have picked 11 players you are ready to hit the “Enter Contest” Button which means you will join the contest with that squad.

A Save&Load function means you can save your team at any point.

You can change your team for the contest until the first game starts

Formations and structure 

In each contest you will get a fixed budget of $100mil that you can use to buy players for your fantasy soccer lineup. The maximum number of players you can draft is 11 players like in the real world. The team must have 11 players from 4 different positions:

max. 1 goalkeeper (min. 1)

max. 5 defenders (min. 3)

max. 5 midfielders (min. 2)

max. 3 forwards (min. 1)

You can just select maximum of 3 players per team if the rules of the contest do not have other specifics

You can’t change the team once it’s fixed and the first game has started.

Possible Formations are:

4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-5-2, 4-5-1, 5-4-1, 3-4-3, 5-3-2, 5-2-3

You can watch in our live feed your fantasy team and their points while they are playing in real time

Contest results will be based on the total points reached, the player with the most points is the winner of the contest

Payout Rules

ThePayout structure varies from contest to contest. It´s mainly based on the contest field size. Normally between 15-20% of the contest field are getting paid

If there are two or more players with the same amount of points the money will be split between these players



FFGeek Plans

I’ll be playing daily and tweeting and facebook posting my team.  I’ll also include the league I’ll be playing in if you want to join me in the contest

The first game actually includes 2 days and the fixtures are

Russia v Saudi Arabia

Egypt v Uruguay

Morocco v Iran

Portugal v Spain

The graphic I’m going to show doesn’t show prices but my first draft put me $22m over budget so it’s pretty challenging and that means that teams won’t be all the same.

I’ve gone to spread risk rather than take a gamble and say block defence a team which I imagine is a common tactic.

The Russian players were priced very high, presumably due to the fixture so I only ended up with the GK in the team.  In the end I had to pad the team out with 2 Egyptian midfielders and an Iranian defender although I will probably go back to the drawing board before Thursday.
