FFGeek GW20 Championship Manager FPL Update

various

Here is the latest update of how FFGeek contributors Alex Ball and Joseph Crilley are doing in the new Championship Manager FPL game. Alex is riding high in an unbelievable 3rd place of the overall rankings as part of a team with VionylRichie while Joseph is currently 1st in the late joiner’s league (for those managers that started in GW5).

There is an introductory article available for those who are not familiar with the game, but otherwise let’s get started.

What’s coming up this week

Mark Viduka is the talk of the town following his 20-point haul against Southampton in GW19 where he was the most captained and the most transferred in player. However, the party came crashing down with the news that the big Aussie had picked up a knock in training ahead of GW20. That surely will mean a change in plans for many managers with plenty having planned to give him the armband ahead of a match against the porous defence of Fulham at Elland Road. At 82% fitness, is it time to stick or twist??

One would expect the Viduka news will mean that Van Nistelrooy becomes the default captain once again as Man Utd travel to play Charlton. This marks the first of three consecutive strong fixtures for Red Devils including a home match in BGW22 so expect to see their players targeted again. Elsewhere, there is another huge clash for Arsenal this week as they welcome a Middlesbrough side who are still clinging onto top spot in the league. On the other side of North London, there is an injury crisis with Keller, Richards and Poyet all ruled out for Spurs which could damage the prospects of the popular Rebrov and Selakovic.

On a slightly different topic, this gameweek will be the first to utilise the brand-new website for the ChampManFPL game. This is a new peak within the mountain of excellent work that the creators have done, and they look forward to welcoming a number of new players who will form part of a challenging second-half league!

Alex Ball & Vionyl Richie – Overall rank 3

We’re halfway through the season, we see an end of an era within the ChampMan FPL community where we see our teams transition from the amazing spreadsheets to a new website, which works a lot like the FPL website so the transition should be smooth for everyone. We would like to send big praise and congratulations for an amazingly well constructed game that has now taken us halfway through the first season!

Our last GW on the spreadsheet was an ok one after our triple move for Leeds assets. Luckily Viduka © was part of that move, which saved our GW. We scored just below the average but managed to maintain our rank at third place overall!

Looking forward it’s all about having an eye on the blank GW 22 and possibly even FH in GW23. For us this means rolling one transfer either this or next GW to og into GW22 with two FTs. We already have 11 players for that GW, but that also includes triple defence from Ipswich who play Manchester United away that GW.

Our team looks decent for this GW as well, one ”problem” we have is Boksic who is on 89% condition and with low stamina rating he doesn’t seem to be coping with this fixture congestion very well. We’re instead looking to sell him for Emile Heskey.

Heskey play in GW22 and in GW20 he plays a depleted Sunderland defence wo only last GW Viduka managed four attacking returns against, can Heskey somehow copy that performance!? In between those games he also play Fulham away who struggle with their defensive assets as well so it would set us up nicely to roll the transfer in GW21. Although everyone who plays this game knows how unpredictable it is with injuries and suspensions.

Leeds have an amazing fixture this GW and a great run for the next few which was why we went all in last GW. However Viduka’s low condition (82%) ahead of the game is enough for us not to risk it with the captaincy on him, which would have been a given otherwise. Ruud Van Nistelrooy will be our captain, a boring but sensible option, this GW actually have a few decent differential captaincy options; Harte, Heskey/Fowler, Scowcroft/Sturridge etc.

Good luck with the GW to everyone! For old players, remember to transfer the team from the spreadsheets. To new players; Welcome to an amazing fantasy experience!!

Joseph Crilley – Overall rank 61 Late Joiner’s league 1

A slightly strange week as my team returned a decent score of 74 (-4), however this was primarily due to Viduka, Kiely and RVN combining for 58 of those points! Nonetheless, I cannot complain about being 10 points above the top 300 average which meant I climbed up to 45th overall while strengthening my position at the top of the late joiner’s league. I am now looking ahead to the upcoming blanks and doubles while I need to address the potential Viduka issue.

Using my transfer planner, I can see that I have 8 players for GW22 with three transfer remaining so I will look to muddle through that week without using a chip. Depending how the doubles finalise in GW23, I may use the free hit then, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it and focus on short-term for now. My view on Viduka is that it’s a ‘don’t buy, don’t sell, don’t captain’ situation and he is very much a part of my long-term plan, so I’ll be sticking with him. The fixtures for Man Utd mean that I would like to bring back a triple-up on their assets with the easiest route being to go for a second defender.

Given that it’s the Christmas period and benches are important, I am aiming to kill two birds with one stone by removing the suspended Petrescu using the 2.0mil in my bank. Therefore, I have able to choose any of the United defenders (bar Blanc who I already own) and I need to decide who I think has the lowest rotation risk. Currently, I am leaning towards Gary Neville, but I need to do some research before finalising that decision.

Captain will likely be the default choice of Van Nistelrooy, though Harte does seriously tempt me against Fulham side who travel poorly. Leeds have only conceded 1 goal at home this season and there is always the chance of attacking returns – another decision to ponder!

Here are my plans for the next two gameweeks as shown in my Transfer Planner:

And here is my GW20 team before any transfers:
