FPL Best GW38 Teams – 4 FFGeek Contributors teams for Gameweek 38 Part 2
Introduction
It’s worth noting that the teams shown may not necessarily end up being the final teams or the transfers may have been made in the days prior to the posting . It’s an informal situation to give you an idea of trends.
However the FFGeek team, the Transfer Planner Team and the Contributor Vote team Plus the Contributor teams of Rob, Rick, Andrew, Pete, Javier and Joe mentioned above on the FFGeek Patreon site all make notified transfers live as they are completed. GW37 review
Well gameweeks don’t get much worse than this and unfortunately at the exact wrong time of the season.
After being comfortably within the top 100k at 76k in GW35 this gameweek dropped me well out. It was my 3rd worst gameweek of the season and saw a 48% drop in overall rank. Some going considering my team is pretty template.
In saying all the negativity it just needs a 10 point recovery in GW38 to get back within the top 100k.
The drop was purely down to my captain choice of Gyokeres who was benched and came on for 17 minutes for a 1 pointer. The other popular captains of Fernandes, Saka and Haaland (who I all had) all returned making it a very relevant overall rank hit.
GW38 team
With the league won and Arsenal playing in the Champions League a week later then the GW38 lineups are somewhat uncertain to say the least. As Geek pointed out in his Free Hit Draft article the teams with something to play for are Spurs, West Ham, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Brighton plus Bruno Fernandes going for the assist record.
With 6 players from Arsenal and Man City the potential for lineup carnage from my team is significant. Given that and my desire to get back into the top 100k I’m going to be up for the GW38 deadline (1.30am in NZ!) to see if there are any team leaks
Here’s my rough permutations if leaks come through
If Gyokeres or Joao Pedro are bench then Richarlison IN
If Saka benched then Palmer IN
If Haaland and/ or Semenyo benched then replace with a starting Man City players eg Foden/Marmoush even if it’s a double move

I’m happy enough with the GW37 result – especially considering three of my players (Haaland, Bruno, and Gabriel) were actively working against me. Opting for the double Arsenal defence – rather than squeezing in another attacker – paid off, and Calvert-Lewin contributed the other meaningful points.
The resulting 3k rank increase sits me at 12k going into the final week. That’s about 5 points off 10k, which would be a hell of a result considering how much tougher the game has become.
The final week
We’re now largely wandering blindly into the wilderness. The final gameweek is always a bit murky, as there’s usually a selection of teams who have little to play for, and rotation is rife. However, this year, with the title already decided, my six most expensive, high-profile players are all in danger of sitting out. I was hoping that wouldn’t be the case.
Most are in the same position, though, and nobody really knows what’s going to happen. If it’s Pep’s last game at City, then maybe he plays his best eleven and attempts to go out with a bang – or, if he’s a bit sulky, he might bench those that he feels have cost him the win. Maybe Arsenal will want to solidify the title by winning big at Palace instead of chancing defeat… or maybe they’ll play a full B team and rest up for the UEFA final a week later… It could be carnage….

Gameweek 37 Review
The penultimate gameweek of the season got underway on Friday evening with Aston Villa hosting Liverpool, however the first match for my side wasn’t actually until 12:30pm on Sunday.
Manchester United hosted Nottingham Forest and Bruno Fernandes picked up 2 assists along with 1 bonus point for a 9 point return. Unfortunately, due to his effective ownership, this was actually detrimental to my overall rank. I had 3 players involved in the Leeds v Brighton match, and luckily I managed to come away with 21 points from the encounter. Karl Darlow was the real hero keeping a clean sheet, making 7 saves, and walking away with maximum bonus for an unexpected 11 point haul. Teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the only goal of the game in the 96th minute, Leeds’ only shot on target, and the striker claimed 2 bonus for a 7 point return. Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood blanked, only managing 1 shot on target, however he was substituted before the Leeds goal meaning he kept his clean sheet point, finishing with 3 points.
Monday night saw Arsenal host Burnley, a game in which they won 1-0. This meant there were clean sheets for my Arsenal defensive duo of Gabriel and Saliba. Saliba also walked away with 2 bonus points, meaning the pair scored 14 points between them. Saka got the assist for the goal, hit his defensive contributions target, and also collected 2 bonus for a 10 point return, doubled to 20 as I had him captain.
Tuesday night saw Manchester City travel to The Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth, a game in which they needed to win to keep their title hopes alive. The game ended 1-1 with Erling Haaland scoring the city goal and collecting maximum bonus for a 9 point return. Nico O’Reilly blanked for a 2 pointer and unfortunately Antoine Semenyo was hooked after 55 minutes for only a 1 point return. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott played the full 90 minutes and hit his defensive contributions target for a 4 point return, and he came in from my bench to replace João Pedro who was missing altogether from the Chelsea squad to face Tottenham.
I finished the gameweek with 80 points, which was above both the overall average of 59 and Live FPL’S Elite 1k average of 61 points. This was enough for green arrow of around 20k places, up to 31k.
Gameweek 38 Thoughts
The final gameweek of the season gets under at 4pm on Sunday and I have 1 free transfer and £0.7 million in the bank heading into the deadline at 2:30pm UK time……..
