The schedule
The schedule ranking is based on 20/21 stats only. I won’t move to 21/22 stats until there is more data
The teams are ranked by defensive strength based on last seasons stats. Fixtures upcoming are not taken into account
Player values and stats were as of Monday 23rd August before the West Ham v Leicester game
Possible transfer targets for GW3
The criteria is teams with reasonable defences with a good entry point and fixtures over the next 6 gameweeks
Brighton
A number of things have clouded the picture with Brighton to the extent that I only think Dunk and Sanchez are the safe options.
Veltman and Lamptey being injured has meant that Webster has been pushed to RB and the CBs are Dunk and Duffy. Duffy despite being an outsider of Potters has been in good form and it raises the question as to whether he could hold his place if Lamptey and/or Veltman return and Webster then goes to the bench rather than to the CB position. To add to the confusion, Potter has also played a back 4 rather than a back 3 but whether that is out of necessity or a change of heart over formation is unknown. Therefore only Dunk at the moment is a safe option for the defence.
The entry point at home to Everton could be better.
Man Utd
With Henderson out De Gea holds the GK spot although whether he will keep it when Henderson eventually returns remains to be seen
Shaw is the best option in the back 4. £5.0m Lindelof will lose his place when £5.5m Varane is match fit
The fixtures are a bit mixed although the next 2 of Wolves and Newcastle are excellent.
West Ham
This was written before the West Ham Leicester game.
There’s no £4.5m option in the defence so for me £5.0m Coufal is the best option. I personally think the £5.5m cost of Cresswell is too steep for the underlying defensive strength.
Crystal Palace is a great entry point
Spurs
Lloris has had a fantastic start and is a great shot stopper but again £5.5m is expensive for the underlying defence of last season. However Romero should improve it.
So Reguilon at £5.0m offers the safest route into the defence.
Given the uncertainty over the CB situation then £4.5m Tanganga becomes the cheap defence focus. The question is how nailed is he. He’s started the first 2 of the season and at least the Wolves game wasn’t only for his defensive strength. He does have competition from Doherty and Aurier although both are very different attacking fullbacks. If you get him it’s with the knowledge of that doubt.
Watford is a great entry point.
The Fixture Ease Schedule
Here’s a schedule where the teams are ranked by the easiness of the attacking teams they face over the upcoming 6 gameweeks
The Clean Sheet schedule
I’ve kept the clean sheet schedule from last season just so you get a further
My schedule tries to focus on the stats that will lead to clean sheets rather than clean sheets themselves but I thought it would be worth while getting the clean sheet schedule from the premier league site
