I went over my first gut feeling restart thoughts on a contributors article over a week ago, then I was thinking to build up on the core of Aubameyang, Aguero, KDB, Ederson, Grealish, Samata, double Sheffield defence and Fleck.

Since then unlimited transfers were announced and I went gone through the different layers of hell ( heaven ? ): moved to triple City attack because I really want Sterling, no Aubameyang because he is expensive, to keep or not keep any Liverpool, don’t care about the ‘bad’ doublers, etc.

Eventually I’ve come back to the original plan, the main decision point to omit Sterling to spread the 6£ saving around the team. This allows better balance with Pepe and strong single gameweek players: Mount and Doherty, to go with Lascelles as cheapie.

There is no right or wrong answer here, between the double game week options. What’s for sure is that I would go big on the only double game week opportunity we will have this season.

Whatever you decide, good luck to all on the restart!

Apologies that this is a shorter write-up than usual, but you can see my thinking in the earlier article and also hear my thoughts on this week’s Patreon Podcast. I’ll be using my Bench Boost chip this week as I don’t see a better week to use it at the moment. I then plan to negotiate GW31+ and 32+ using free transfers only then Free Hit in GW33+. Here’s who I’ve settled on.

Goalkeepers

Leno gets the first slot with Reina in the other. I’m not convinced either will get a single clean sheet to be honest, but they’ve 2 games each so I’m at least hoping for 8 points total from the 2. 1 clean sheet out of 4 would make me happy, who knows might luck out on a penalty save! Ederson is probably the best option for this week, but then has a tough GW31+ and 32+ and with no Wildcard, I don’t really want to have to use a transfer on a premium keeper moving forward.

Defenders

Alexander-Arnold is too dangerous not to own I reckon and with 0.6m value tied up, would be tricky to buy-back so he stays in from my original team. I’ve also held onto Lascelles who at my 4.2 buy price looks a good cheap enabler and should be gametime secure. I’ve also kept Doherty. He’s a fun player to own and I’m hoping to see some attacking returns from the Irish wing-back during some favourable fixtures. For my last 2 it’s the Sheffield United double of Egan and O’Connell – both should be gametime secure.

Midfielders

Kevin De Bruyne was the first name in my GW30+ team. I’ve had him since GW1 and I certainly don’t intend on selling him now! He’s joined by Mo Salah – not a double player, but I’ll need either him or Mane moving forward and it will be difficult to bring them back in later. Fleck is my 3rd pick – I think he’s a great value enabler and does have some set piece involvement. An assist against 2 teams who are vulnerable on set play is not beyond the realms of possibility.

The last 2 midfield picks proved tricky and in the end I’ve doubled up on Villa. I really like McGinn as a differential and I’d have paired him with Cantwell who looks the best cheap 5th mid pick going forward. But Grealish has too higher ownership and potential to ignore so he’s in. This left me 4.4m for the last midfielder and the only option is Douglas Luiz – hopefully he can get 4 points across the 2 fixtures! (As a caveat, I’m still toying with 2 single players here though and going Barnes and Cantwell, which would be feasible in my budget. I’m going to mull this over!)

Forwards

Aubameyang stays from my original line-up and also gives me a nice option in GW31 and 32. I then couldn’t resist old FPL favourite Sergio Aguero for the double. 2 fixtures at home for an asset with such pedigree is too tempting. I’d have loved Jimenez for my 3rd striker slot, but alas I can’t afford him so I’ll settle for Jota and hope that he doesn’t take a few weeks to get going as he tends to in the early season.

This leaves me with a fairly satisfactory 10 double gameweek players for my Bench Boost, but also 5 solid single gameweekers who are also good picks for the next few weeks going forward. I’d then plan to carry my GW31 transfer and use 2 in GW32, probably bringing in at least 1 Man United player. This is the other benefit of having funds tied up in Grealish – he can be upgraded to Fernandes for example. Captain pick for this week is fairly straightforward – it’s Aguero all the way!

Good luck folks – hope you enjoy having football back, I know I will no matter how my team does!

Glad to be back into the FPL swing of things. Hopefully I can make a late surge up the rankings. I’m currently around 150k, and have my wildcard, bench boost and free hit available.

I am going for bench boost this week. It is quite possibly the only double gameweek we have, and we have unlimited transfers in order to try and maximise it’s value. I plan to use my wildcard to sort my team out afterwards and save the free hit.

Their are downsides to using bench boost. A long break bringing unpredictability. additional subs meaning more rotation etc but I still think it’s worth doing in my circumstances.

My main issue with putting together the squad is team value. I only have 101.5m to play with, which is considerably lower than pretty much everyone else.

I have opted to go all in on the double gameweekers, with no expense spared in City. This has meant a bargain basement of Fleck and Sakha in midfield. I feel there are better single gameweek options, but not for the budget I had left. I’ve gambled on Samatta as well. 2 games, should be nailed to start given Wesley’s injury and Villa need wins. No doubt this is a gamble still.

My single gameweekers consist of Doherty, who has a reasonable fixture and a high ceiling, Fernandez, who for the price I felt had the best chance of a clean sheet for the price, and Ramsdale who just fit the budget and has an ok home fixture.

I’m not 100% on this, as having Mahrez over Sterling would help me spread more money around these weaker positions. This could mean upgrading Ramsdale to Henderson, Fleck to Mount etc.

Aguero captain for me, despite potential gametime risk. His ceiling is just so high I can’t not in double gameweek.

Summary:  Unlimited transfers and Bench Boost.
