Clay Van Doren
Clay’s last 11 seasons Overall ranks are 129k, 970th, 36k, 29k, 219k, 97k, 43k, 37k, 1k, 83k and 10k
GW33 points: 128 on BB (20 Top managers average 118) Total points: 1,986, Overall Rank: 184k, green arrow 170k: Team Value: £102.4m

GW 33 Key Moments: Bowen, Thiago and O’Reilly deliver
Benchboosters did well with Brighton and Leeds shutouts, assist from Van Hecke and O’Reilly, goal from Tavernier and goals from captained Haaland
Less owned Gross (16 points) and Hinshelwood (10) also helped the Benchboosters.
JPedro no showed both games creating pain for Benchboosters. No prior indication of signs of injury or niggles
Benchboost GW 33 results: Cut Rank in Half Despite JPedro No Show
Landed on a good 128 points with all players returning except JPedro (0) and Palmer (2).
Decision to bring in Struijk (10 points) over Gabriel (0 points) paid off even if have to hit to bring in Gabriel later.
My Gameweek rank of 173K was better than my weekly 1M target and 16 points better than the avg Elite result. My cumulative OR is 185K (48% improvement week on week / 175K improvement in places).
Now 93 points off 10K, 15 Point improvement vs last week. 25 points off top 100K.
I need another big gameweek soon.
With 13% of the season and 2 chips remaining. Running out of time. Must make headway this week
GW34: FreeHit
In GW34, will captain Fernandes home to Brentford. Going with Fernandes incredible home record under Carrick (6 results in last 7 home matches including 6 10+ pointers). On pens.
Vice Captain Salah at home to distracted Palace. On pens. Showing signs of life.
Will play a 4 x 4 x 2 in this relatively weak Freehit week with few certain attacking returners
Palace, Everton, Brentford & Fulham all seem to limit opposition to 2 goals or less
And most of the target attackers are delivering xGI like defenders Porro (0.20), Mavropanos (0.3) and VVD (0.1). Last 4 games non-pen: Gakpo 0.3 xGI, Thiago 0.3 xGI, H Wilson 0.1 xGI, X Simons 0.3 xGI, Mbuemo 0.1 xGI, Cunha 0.2 xGI, Bowen 0.3 xGI, Solanke 0.2 xGI
Watkins on 0.6, Rice 0.4 and Gibbs-White on 0.4 (but inflated from his hattrick match)
Only Arsenal and Spurs (hard to trust) look like a high scoring potential on the surface (in my option). Gabriel, Raya and Rice.
So, I start with three Arsenal but hard to trust any attacker for minutes.
Note: Rice averaging only 3-4 per game. However, twice recently been on 11 Defcon. However, more Eze time seems to adversely impact Rice (pushes him deeper)
My GW34 certains are Raya, Gabriel, Porro (.20 xGI last 4 weeks), Mavropanos (0.3 xGI), Bruno, Salah, Rice, Watkins (0.6 xGI). . . Kinsky (to save funds)
Tempted to take VVD on as only 1 Liverpool clean sheet in memory and expect Palace to play strong lineup and score
Currently, adding, Bowen on pens and home match, Xavi plus the bench Dewsbury-Hall, VVD, Diouf and Mane
Currently not on but tempted: Mbuemo against old team and Talisman Gibbs-White hot and on pens
Mid-term Plan
Triple Captain Haaland in City’s upcoming Double Gameweek either GW36 or GW37
In GW35/36, I will likely bring Gabriel in for Hill and Henderson for Darlow
FreeHit 34: Bruno (C); Salah (VC): Bench: Kinsky, Diouf and Mane
Transfer summary: Free Hit activated
Here’s the current draft

Rick Porter
Rick’s 7 of the last 9 seasons top 38k OR. 3 top 10k ORs
GW33 points: 142 on BB (20 Top managers average 118 ) Total points: 2,081, Overall Rank: 9k, Green Arrow 21k, Team Value: £103.3m
Rick has used his TC, WC and BB
An excellent score that’s landed me in the top 10k. I’d say it was worth the last couple of weeks of tactical stagnation. I love it when a plan comes together.
My decision to drop Gabriel for a Leeds defender turned out to be a wise one. Gabriel scored zero (and almost got sent off) so opting for Struijk instead gained me 10 points. I know I’ll want Gabriel back in GW35, so it was a bit wasteful transfer-wise, but even if the use of the those transfers ends up costing me a hit later down the line, I’ll still end up better off.
There was some disappointment, of course. Pedro not showing up for either match meant I was a full player down on Bench Boost. Pretty frustrating, but he was hugely owned anyway, so the Brighton clean sheet was worth more to me than him playing and getting a return. I only really lost out to those weren’t on BB but had a high-scoring first bench waiting to step in.
Palmer was the only other real stain on my team. He felt a high-potential pick, but ended up scoring just two points in the one match he played. Again, though, he was owned by most chip users so plenty suffered the same disappointment.
However, these are just small blots on a superb week. A short period of celebration is certainly in order.
What’s next
So… I’ve reached the top 10k – now I face the difficult task of staying there.

GW Review
GW33 was a red-arrow week, and that is the right place to start. I finished on 102 points with the Bench Boost active and fell around 5,600 places in the overall rank. The Top 10k average for the week was 105.7 and the Elite average was 112.1, so not only did I miss a green arrow, I came in under the bench boost total of the room I am actually trying to beat. Safety score was 113, and I was 11 short of it. Calling this a solid return would be whitewashing.
The week ran from Saturday through Wednesday, with five sides getting a double gameweek through the midweek slots. That spread of fixtures is precisely what makes a Bench Boost attractive, and also what makes a poor Bench Boost hurt more. When the chip week is spread over five days with this many doubles in play, the opportunity cost of every single-fixture pick is magnified.
Haaland captain was the one clear success. He delivered 26 across the City double, which narrowly beats the Top 10k captain average of 24.5 and sits well ahead of the overall captain average of 17.6. That is exactly what a premium captain is there to do: not miraculous, but correctly timed, and it prevented the week from being much worse. Virgil 8, Calvert-Lewin 8 across the Leeds double, Van Hecke 12 off the bench and Guéhi 8 were the other contributors. That is genuinely it in terms of the shortlist.
The drag was severe. Palmer 2 across the Chelsea double. Semenyo 5 across the Bournemouth double. Sarr 1. Thiago 2. Gordon 0 because he did not feature at all, which is the sort of outcome a Bench Boost is supposed to protect against rather than trigger. Five names badly underdelivering in the same chip week is the kind of pattern the score cannot fully cover up, and it did not.
The transfer call was Thiaw to Guéhi, and in isolation it looks fine. Thiaw scored 1 after I sold him, so the sell side did its job. The problem is the alternative. O’Reilly was the obvious other option, he plays for the City double, and he returned 13. Picking an 8-return single-fixture defender over a 13-return double-fixture defender on a Bench Boost week costs me five raw points, and it costs me considerably more than that on effective ownership because O’Reilly was a low-ownership differential I did not take. That is the specific kind of mistake I should be catching and I did not catch it.
The broader threats picture confirms the read. The names I did not own and which hurt me most were O’Reilly 13, Struijk 10, Tavernier 9, Darlow 8, and Senesi 6, all low-ownership players who delivered. The names I did own that saved me, relatively speaking, were the ones where the market was wrong alongside me: Van den Berg 6 at a low ownership is a win, Richards 6 is a win, Gordon at 0 is paradoxically a non-loss because nobody owned him either. The one threat that went my way was João Pedro at 0, which was an 82% effective ownership advantage and genuinely prevented a much larger drop.
So the honest read of GW33 is that the captain worked, one or two defenders and the bench kept me afloat, and everything else was either wrong or not wrong enough to matter. 102 on a Bench Boost with a 5.6k red arrow is the kind of week where the process has to be inspected, not defended. The points are banked, but the decisions underneath them were poor enough that I need to be sharper from here.
That is why the GW34 plan is what it is. The run-in does not wait, and trying to carry this squad through a mini-blank after a week like this would just be stacking more compromises on top.
